run in behind a crowd so that I would not get hit and then run away, unless the shooter is blocking the exit in which case I would lie down in someone else's pool of blood and play dead (I have decided never to get shot in my lifetime).

Hahaha, the response is hilarious! Imagine a robber, going into a store with about 10 people. They all start walking towards him, or start talking to him. Then the 10 customers proceed with either pulling a gun at him, or beating him senseless. Yeah, that's really likely.

Do you seriously think you'd go all vigilante on his ass? We can all say now that we'd act in a certain way, but that's because we aren't under those certain circumstances now and we get the time to consider what we'd want to do to be cool/a hero/whatever. In the situation however, I don't think we'd act with such brass balls. We have this neat little thing called survival instinct you see. I really have no clue how I'd react.

Why are you talking about "we," when you are clearly only talking about yourself? Don't try to make decisions on my behalf.
Fine, maybe you're the superhero with brass balls all shop-robbers fear. I guess it's only me who's not certain what I'd do.

Ram him with a shopping cart, grab someone's purse, and clobber him with that.

Most people who pull guns out in stores don't expect much resistance. If I could catch him off guard, I'd be able to hit him.

I'd go into another aisle, wait for him to come around to a point where I'm RIGHT there, then stab him in the throat with my pocketknife and then disarm him and repeatedly shoot him.

You have bear hands?! wow how'd you attain those?

sorry had to point that out. on topic though, I wouldn't attempt to disarm him, that would get me shot, I'd try to talk to him, I think I could possible get to stop whatever he was about to do, and if not, well I'm screwed.

Protect my loved ones. With that said, I jump towards him and try to make him fall, may take a bullet.

for most of the people saying they'd do something violent or brave, you might be able to press Q to not die with a game controller, but someone with a gun pointed in your direction is NOT a situation you can just deal with simply. All he has to do is move his hand and you can die.
Sorry, but facts are facts: it is possible to disarm an armed attacker. No amount of arguing is going to change that.
And it's also possible to get shot trying to disarm an armed attacker. Facts are facts.

as a security guard, I know the best way to deal with this, talk to them. If they are unsure what they are doing and look new to it try talking to them in a commanding voice - all part of training :p

A guy pulls a gun, and you seriously think you can run at him and try to disarm him... really?.
Since disarming is presented as an option, one should naturally assume that you are right in front of the gunman.

No way, I doubt you could get there in time, and there is a strong chance you might escalate the problem, the guy could be a plain clothed cop aiming at something behind you. The guy might suspect you to be doing something dodgy, who know? He aims at you and you charge him, that guy might shoot you just because of that, and to add insult to injury he could claim self-defence.
Well tough shit for the cop if he doesn't announce that he is a police officer. And really, if someone pulls a gun on you, is your first assumption going to be that he's a police officer?

Unless you are some form of special forces, or superhero, charging him is ridiculous.
But standing there and getting shot, or running away and getting shot, that's not ridiculous at all. Of course, neither of these options involve any violence or aggression on your part, so they are socially acceptable.
Socially acceptable? I couldn't care less about social acceptance, I care about not escalating a problem by thinking with my ego rather than logic. Oh and living, I like life.

Charging in with your adrenaline shoved into your brain is not the right option in a case like this, if you charge him, 90% chance you get shot and die with nothing achieved. If you don't, your odds are much better.

Even if the guy was 2 feet away, odds are he will shoot you before you reach him. He already has the gun trained on you if you read it.

Think about this for a second. A guy points a gun at you, he has the advantage in every way, shape and form, and you decide to disarm the guy?, the only way that could work is if it wasn't a real gun, or the guy is useless, in which case there is no problem either way.

Now think psychologically, If he's a crazy gunman, he will shoot you irregardless of if you flee or disarm, and as I already established, you don't have the ESP to be ready for him, he has the drop on you, not the other way around, He will kill you if you attempt something quick. So what gives you the best option of surviving? Running, or leaping behind something. I'm not pretending I have great odds, but making yourself a bigger target by running at him is worse.

If he is standing practically on your toes as you assumed. You are dead either way. by the time you realise he has a gun pointed at you, he could have filled you full of bullets. The fact you can still react means he has decided not to shoot you, for now at least. I suppose you could wait till you saw him distracted or whatever, but that's a really odd scenario... I don't know what bright guy would stand on your toes and pull out a gun.

If he hasn't totally flipped, and is one of those hostage takers, than attempting to disarm him is the worst possible thing you could do. You push him over the edge so he does flip.

If I had a magic I win button that disarmed the guy, hell yes I'd do it. But the poll option is *try* to disarm.

If you feel like being a hero, than I think retreating than running back and attempting to find a way to get the drop on him is better than throwing away your life meaninglessly.

Roll a saving throw. Counter attack. Loot corpse. Move on to next dungeon.

*note: if your 13 or under (mentally) then feel free to add "t-bag" between 'loot' and 'move on'.
