I only feel bad because it's one less gun to shoot the Combine/zombies with. Other than that, most of them weren't given enough personality for me to care.

I find it hard to actually feel for them. It seems to me, judging by the way they consistanly place their heads in front of my barrel and run up to combine in some feeble attempt to reason with them, that they want to die. So since they got what they wanted, i should feel happy for them right?

Though if a main character dies, i'll feel something. Specially if it was Barney, Alex or Dog. I felt a little twinge of pain when SPOILER (i dont know if you guys actually say that)Dr. Eli died.

Yeah, I always go through a tough skirmish and afterwards notice one or two fresh corpses on the floor... *Sobs*

You don't have to defend that you felt emotion in a game, the best games make you feel things like that.
Although I doubt many people feel anything when one of the faceless spacefillers die.

But what is HL2?
what is life?

what is the universe?

what is everything?

It's not like they really did a whole lot, but yeah I always felt like I failed all my dead teammates.

I used to miss them. then I played MW2. now I just go into a homicidal rage when a squad mate dies. why did they have to kill ghost. and all the squad from the first game. and EVERY PERSON WHO IS WITH YOU EXCEPT PRICE AND SOAP.

Yes i Definitely do.....
Apart from one time....I was in a big firefight and i ran inside a room to grab ammo. My squad followed me in, But when i went to leave they wouldnt exit the room (even when ordered to) and just sit in the doorway being mowed down by a strider. Usually i feel like i let them down, but that time i think they just killed themselves out of stupidity.

How many roads must a man walk?
Before you call him a man?
And how many seas must a white dove sail?

Anyway, I haven't finished HL2 yet (I only bought the Orange Box five hours ago, and by the way, Portal actually managed to live up to the hype)

But I usually feel sad for red shirts who die in games because as a writer I usually prefer those characters, so whenever I meet them in games I do everything I can to keep them all alive, because I try and translate it to a real experience (were I in a squad of these men, would I want them to die? No)

Nah, not really. I do in Brothers In Arms though, even thought they respawn. I get really sad when they die in the game though.

[sub]*sniff* I'll miss ya Paige..[/sub]
I'm really not trying to stalk you Furby, but I actually agree, Brothers In Arms was one of the most immersive war games I played in a while, and I actually did feel sad when the more pointless deaths or injuries happened.

[sub]Dammit Red, why'd you have to go and get hurt?*sob*[/sub]

Not really, except for the Medics because they actually give me health kits. I mean, regulars give ammo, but that's decidedly less useful. Too bad there's no one to give armor charge...oh, wait a second, what if they let you put Vorts in your squad in Ep 3?

Hell no. They're nameless, would be faceless genero-soldiers. They only live to provide a shield for me.
