i erm have some quite major issues, i like name all my squadies in most games then when they die i refuse to steal their stuff to honour them.. but only if they go one at a time, if its like genocide then i just go mental and kill everything.

Those assholes only got in my way. I wasn't sad at all when they died. Now the antlions, on the other hand, those are good squadmates.

Also, OP, if you just played HL2 I really suggest you also play Half-Life. It's a really great game; I would say it's even better than its sequel, although many would disagree. Regardless it's a really great experience and along with its sequel it's one of the few FPSes I've ever truly liked.

I kinda say to myself in a dramatic tone, Nooooo (Whatever his name was)! Then run over to his body and pretend to be all dramatic about his death. Then i just get over it and wait till someone else dies.

You don't have to defend that you felt emotion in a game, the best games make you feel things like that.
Although I doubt many people feel anything when one of the faceless spacefillers die.

But what is HL2?
what is life?

what is the universe?

what is everything?

Yeah, I do, I like keeping the full team. It makes me play slow and meticulous to prevent them dying where possible.

Not in half-life 2, but some other games yes.

It's a good example of why the murder in GTA isn't as bad as it is made out to be. I reckon the vast majority of people playing GTA didn't feel at all bad when you run over a pedestrian, heck, most of us probably laughed like hell. Why? There was no empathy for the pedestrians, no backstory, no connection to be had with them.

Then you get the Companion Cube from portal. It's an inanimate object. By All rights we shouldn't care at all, and yet I'd say a significant portion of people felt a pang when
You dropped it into the fire

Why? You were forced to have an emotional attachment to it, as weird as that one was.

So basically games where my squad members actually are given dialogue and a face, yeah I feel a bit of empathy. But Hl2... the squad members didn't really matter to me, while I was emotionally moved by the main characters in the story, the NPC's that help you were just cardboard cutouts for me.

But what is HL2?
Furthermore, what is love?
Since we do not know what both are, we must come to the conclusion That HL2 is love.

I believe Pat Benatar came up with Love is a Battlefield but I prefer yours, by far.
even better:
HK-47 - Definition: 'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope... Love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticule, and together, achieving a singular purpose against statistically long odds.
Best damn definition of love I've ever heard!

Not really, they knew what they were getting into when they joined the fight and they knew death would be a possiblity. Plus, the Medic and Ammo carrier are the only ones I honestly care about. The others are helpful, but not needed for me to win.

Not sad, but I do try as hard as I can to keep them alive and feel a sense of anger when one of them is ripped apart by a withering barrage of machine gun fire.

Yes, I can't stand my squadmates dying. It's the same in every game with squadmates. I often reload to a previous save if a CPU bot dies, a Rebel in HL2, or a Marine in Halo, I just want them to survive dammit!

The only game I couldn't care about them was Resistance 2.

I usually don't notice. I'll turn around and there's one less person. They fall into the same category as halo marines where if they're there, ok fine, they help, but if they aren't there no sweat. Though I will try to keep the medics alive best i can being as they're marginally more useful than the others.

Yes
when i see one of my men, who fought beside me, as he is running to me, only to get masacurred by gunfire, i can't help but say to myself 'Nooo! damnit, I will avenge you!' or somethinglike that.
and then when i think back, on all the brave people who gave their lives, just to help me... i feel i cannot let them down,

no because they are all so retarded it just makes me happy. I will reload when I'm FUCKING ready!
oddly enough, i actually found that reload reminder helpful, cus i had always forgotten to reload my gun at the times, and only have like 5 bullets left,

No they are fucking idiots; you can kill them with the cross bow and when I try to snipe a combine behind a turret they get in the way and then the rest decide to get in front of me right after they just saw their squad member die. They are just like lemmings. Besides they just re-spawn, usually.

I do. I don't feel "sad", but I feel I let them down. They risk their life to help me in my cause, and most to live for more then 60 seconds. I hate it when people die for a riotous cause. And I don't mean war, because war is dumb. I mean like that kid in china who killed the dude cause he used his higher-up power to pick on the people he is supposed to lead.

I also just finished HL2.

Yes, I know it's a game, I'm not a wuss. Not that much anyway.
Oddly, the squad-mates deaths never phased me
Though Alyx in Ep2...
. The antlions on the other hand, I always felt bad about. I always did my best to avoid injuring them on the levels where they weren't friendly, and felt bad whenever one tried to stop my car by flying into it I didn't have enough time to avoid them.
I felt the same actually, first off I tried to keep my squad mates from dying but I realised quickly the reason Valve took that route of stupid bum rush squad mates who die was to instill a sense of AN ACTUAL ALL OUT WAR going on, with many casualties ... instead of like other games such as Republic Commando in which 4 dude consists as a full army.

The Antlions however, I considered my pets and loved them dearly, my friends actually caught me making cooing noises at them, I was very sad when I lost the ability to have them as pets.
