Christmas Tree. Political Correctness has gotten massively out of hand in my opinion.

There was a time in the US a few years ago where every one was upset about them being called a "Christmas" trees so there was this whole movement to get people to call them "Holiday" trees. It got so bad that even the tree in Times Square started being called a holiday tree. Since then the fad seems to have died and people call them Christmas trees for the most part. As for the law, I don't remember there being a specific law re-naming them holiday trees, but they did expand existing laws to be more strict about any religious beliefs being displayed in public areas and government facilities like schools.

Why would you bother saying that? No one said anything about you calling it the USA so why would you go out of your way to explain yourself? Unless you where trying to sound like a dick, in which case, good job.

All this PC religious shit is really based around the jealousy of other religions towards the government's lean on Christianity. Canada, US and other countries were founded on Christian religion and as such we have the national Christian holidays of Easter and Christmas.

The stupid thing is that other countries are allowed to be prejudiced towards their own religions, like having National holidays for Muslim, Sikh and other religions, or celebrating Malawi or Id or Ramadan or Yom Kippur, and no one says shit. But heaven forbid some government posting says Christmas tree....

Fucking Hypocrites.

Everyone should be free to celebrate or NOT celebrate their own religious beliefs, but the belief system under which the country was founded should not be assaulted or changed. I am offended when I see women wearing traditional Muslim garb, but I don't yell or *****, I tolerate. I think that's the difference... religions like Christianity and Judaism are just more tolerant than others.

You want to live in a country that doesn't have a Christmas Tree in the post office? Move back to where ever the fuck you came from.

Any reason why you want to sound like a dick? I made a single comment, that plenty of people I know agree with, and you call me out on it. I'm not going to get involved in an argument here, but there's no reason for you to start playing the big man and flaming me for no reason because you seem to disagree with what I say. I'm not taking this any further because I don't particularly want to get bollocked by the mods, but next time, try and consider that your thoguhts aren't the be all and end all of the thread. Now kindly fuck off and stop trying to cause flame wars.

They're likely referring to public places, such as office buildings, the post office, schools, and whatnot. You can't have a "Christmas" tree up there because Christmas is a religious holiday and you can't be shown as expressing a religious belief because it's discriminatory. My high school, for example, used to put up a tree every year, and we'd collect food and gifts for local needy families underneath it. Then folks bitched because they didn't celebrate Christmas and didn't feel they should have the holiday "forced" upon them.
That... Is terrifying. It basically boils down to "we can take the excuse to be nice to people, or we can complain that it's against our beliefs to be caring and understanding!"

It's a Christmas Tree, by the way. Named after the fact that it is a tree that symbolises Christmas, when baby Jesus told Santa to get off his fat hypothermic arse and give everyone presents, all those years ago...

Come on ladies and gents I don't mean to exacerbate this but we don't want any flaming as stated in the original message, keep it clean. Pyode your over reacting, I don't want to speak for Trivun here but I can't see any malice in what s/he posted and I can't imagine that it was put there to offend any one. This may be a big misunderstanding and maybe if you addressed Trivun politely you may had got a reasonable answer without any need for hostility.

Just calm down people okay.

I've only ever heard the term "holiday" tree used facetiously. To celebrate the non-denominational winter solstice jubilee.

The Santa we have now was basically the fiction of the Coca Cola industry. Santa Claus actually means Saint Nicholas, a person famous in the Christian religion of giving generous amounts of money to the poor.

Add in hundreds of years of various folklore, commercialisation, and Coca Cola's red and white suit, and you have modern day Santa.

OT: It's Christmas Tree. Holiday Tree makes no sense, since the tree was invented for the Christmas season. I don't call a Catholic Priest a "Holy-type person" just because their name contains a religious reference. It is what it is, changing that is just stupid and offensive.

its a christian holiday at its base. why people try to take that away is just jackassery. if they dont like the FACT that it celibrates the birth of christ maybe they shouldnt celibrate it.
