I'm Pagan, and Christmas is originally a Pagan holiday so I call it a Christmas tree...Furburt said:Christmas tree. I'm atheist and I still call it a Christmas tree.
Common misconception, Coca Cola didn't create Santa in fact the look of Santa Claus which involves a jolly bearded fat man came from drawings by John Nast and the name is of Sinterklaas which was then turned into Santa Cluas through Americanisation. The Red and White suit was used before Coca Cola made the advert that included Santa. Coca Cola also weren't the first to use Santa as a mascot I think White Rock was the first. The Maddest March Hare said:The Santa we have now was basically the fiction of the Coca Cola industry. Santa Claus actually means Saint Nicholas, a person famous in the Christian religion of giving generous amounts of money to the poor.rokkolpo said:yeah. but a chrismas TREE has little to do with christ at all.(who even thought of santa?)Furburt said:Christmas tree. Add in hundreds of years of various folklore, commercialisation, and Coca Cola's red and white suit, and you have modern day Santa.
OT: It's Christmas Tree. Holiday Tree makes no sense, since the tree was invented for the Christmas season. I don't call a Catholic Priest a "Holy-type person" just because their name contains a religious reference. It is what it is, changing that is just stupid and offensive.

'The Tree I have in my Living Room with Lights on it' is a little cumbersome to use in everyday conversation, no?Julianking93 said:Neither. I call it the tree I have in my living room with lights on it.
Hmm, I always thought that the pre-Cola Santa had a red and white hooded cloak, and the idea of the current outfit came from Coca Cola. I realise that they didn't create his image entirely, but it was sort of solidified into that image by the use of such a big brand.Sovvolf said:Common misconception, Coca Cola didn't create Santa in fact the look of Santa Claus which involves a jolly bearded fat man came from drawings by John Nast and the name is of Sinterklaas which was then turned into Santa Cluas through Americanisation. I wouldn't feel too bad about it, I only found this information out a few hours go when I was going to say pretty much the same as you did but I decided to do my research first before some one could correct me and make me look like a shit. The Maddest March Hare said:Hmm, I always thought that the pre-Cola Santa had a red and white hooded cloak, and the idea of the current outfit came from Coca Cola.
