Id prefer if you didnt played as the enemy, it should be potraid as a diferent side and not the evil one. War has two sides, they have their ideals and none of them is the good one or the evil one.

I liked that in COD MW2 we ended up fighting against americans, but not because they were americans, just because IW had the balls to stop making America the source of all good in video games.
what about... you know...

the obvious example of the "badguys"

The only way I'd see them actually doing this is if "America" is really some merc group like in Avatar. We've already seen how much guts developers and publishers have with the Medal of Honor fiasco.

fighting against our Macho Flag-waving military that uses assault rifles against people armed with sharp sticks? yes please.

-wait, I just realized. This could be a trap. The government could be tracking our IP addresses and arresting anyone who says an anti-American war game is a good idea!!

...Or that could just be the leftover turkey making me paranoid.

EDIT: I just realized: Doesn't Fallout 2,3, and New Vegas, depending on what path you take, actually have you fighting against the US Gov't? In Fallout 2 and 3, you have the option to kill the President of the US(who is portrayed as evil), and in New Vegas, you have the option to fight against the NCR, which is essentially the US reincarnated.

Just a thought.
Well I think your oppinion of the US military is poor to say the least but if Master Sergeant Kalednburg (5 Tours to Iraq, 20 something years of service, local boyscout leader and genuinely good person) and his disabled son showed up at your door tomorrow and asked you what you thought of America's armed forces then you would probably have a different answer.
The point is that such a stereotype of the US military can only come from ignorance. There are all types of people in the military. And the type that you are talking about mostly consist of scared 18 and 19 year old kids like you and me in a far-off land doing as they are told.

Side note; nobody has used pointy sticks vs US troops since Vietnam and at the time the US military was anything but flag waving.

the american government would destroy that game and use it in the argument that it is destroying our youth by saying stuff like it allows kids to kill our own citizens and then we start to become like australia

Seriously guys, I thought at least more then one person would be smart enough or older then 10 years old to mention battlefield 2. Not only can you verse USA and win, USA actually gets invaded on a few fronts in one of the -free- expansions as of patch 1.5. These said maps are also some of the best maps.
Seriously, BF2 costs like 10 bucks now and still has a dedicated fan base, go play it if you want to kill some Americans, or just want an actual good, difficult and realistic shooter >.>

How about we do something else entirely, maybe we should be fighting more mummies or space-horses in videogames.

I guess if you were really desperate to gun down some Americans you could play as the Wehrmacht in day of defeat, then again do zombified American citizens count as Americans? If so I've probably killed more Americans at this point than anything else.

It's not that bad down here, besides, last time I checked California's an American state.

Eh, Day of Defeat: Source is unbiased, you can go with America or against. Personally I find the Russian weapons alot better so I end up playing them all the time, but that's just me.

BF2 realistic? Lolwut?
How isn't it?
You have to control your shots, there is bullet drop that is really well done, the vehicles drive and feel right, all the guns have true specs. It is far more realistic then any CoD game.
Yes there are bugs that make the game pretty unrealistic, but that is engine limitations and because it is a DICE game after all.

First of all, calling us all "Yanks" would be like calling all people who live in the UK "English." So, just don't, unless you're specifically referring to the Yankees (anything north of Virgina and east of Ohio, not including said states).

And second, maybe. I wouldn't want to play as a terrorist organization, for the gameplay would need to rely somewhat on stealth, which many developers don't know how to do properly. If it were the Civil War, I would probably try it, assuming that it was more reliant on cavalry battles because the guns of the era were horrible. And then, in an alternate reality, East vs West, like in Fracture, but no "East is evil!!!!" That would be pretty cool.

I like being the good guy! Dunno what the fancination with being evil is! Sure its easier to kill people than reason with them (see fallout3} but..... oh wait..! Yeah!

This reminds me of something. A completely crazy and ridiculous idea I once had. Allow me to link.

http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2010/077/b/4/In_the_future__Kazakhstan_by_El_Jonno.png

Never mind that you can't see the little annotations (still haven't figured out how to make it zoom-in-able) the basic gist is an all-out war between everyone ever - completely tongue-in-cheek, of course. It would make for some pretty hilarious gaming, when you think about it. No matter which faction you're a part of. And some of them would get to fight Americans...
I just had a brainwave.
Imagine a game, the only objective of the game is world domination. Imagine your map + Mount and Blade-esque game + BFBC2 classes + MW2/BlOps customisation.

Bascially, you join a country or nation or whatever then from there start as a simple infantryman or other such class in a war ie engineer or whatever. You work your way up, gaining reputation, seizing countries or territories, each map having around 200 npcs, your allies and the enemy. You could possibly chuck vehicles in there too. Meanwhile, as you gain rank you can customise your weaponry, equipment etc more and more. The higher your rank, the more actual NPCs you can control, eg a sergeant would lead like 5-15 or something while a general would like 200 or something while also having subordinates who lead people. You would also have different backdrops for battles eg, african settings, european etc as well as actual cities and things you fight in. The maps wouldn't need to be ridiculously detailed though. Also, depending on the map there could be an objective ie bomb site or just a straight bloodbath.

Anyone who has played M&B would understand this idea could easily work.

Sorry this is slightly off topic I just had to surface this :p

OT: developers/producers need to know their game will sell, especially if they put work into it. A game where you kill americans will make sales in the US, the prime market, go down maybe even banned.
It would be kinda hard to control 200 men without gradually converting to RTS. Maybe I need to play this "Mount & Blade" thing.

Anyway, did you just quote me because my insane map kick-started your brainwave? :p
It kick-started it like a ranch horse kicks a brander....(terrible comparison there :p)
But yes, it does seem hard at first, especially in M&B, but the interface that allows you do control them is actually quite clever and simple when you understand it. And you're one of your army all the time so there's often just an 'auto' setting if strategy isn't your bag (it isn't mine at all)

I'd highly reccomend M&B, it's PC only and it isn't all that polished but it has really low specs (not the greatest graphics but still very good). You can get it in GAME (UK) for like £10, absolute bargain. I paid £8.50 for it and I've played over 200 hours, significantly more than most £30 games I've bought.

I guess I missed that part, where was it exactly? I don't ever remember shooting any americans in MW2.
In the end you fight against the PMC's and Shepard is the bad guy.

When will we ever be able to play as Nazi Germany? I want to be the bad guys for once, dammit.
It would be a welcome change of perspective. Something new in the world of gaming.
The old battlefield games had Nazi campaigns along with an allied one, so there's that.

I think the problem with playing a game against the Yanks is the lack of parity in firepower and dealing with American "elitness" due to superior trained and equipped troops.
Depends on what nation you play as, US soliders are far from the best trained. You only have the gear, not the manual on how to use them effectivly if ya know what I mean.
I'm not american. They are reaosnbly well trained. Especially compared to the Taliban.
