I'm not normally around them so it's hard to say how I feel. When I am, I'm usually pretty terrified, they say whatever they think, they haven't really learned to be fake polite yet. I don't have any currently, but I imagine I'd enjoy my own and not like the rest. Not sure if I should be a parent though, I don't know what I could pass down that would be of any value to someone.

The "selfish" bit always rubs me the wrong way. It doesn't really seem to make much sense. You should have a child regardless of whether you want one, just in case, and that somehow isn't selfish? I'd rather regret not having one, than regret having one.

Some of them are alright but most of them just annoy the hell out of me. I'm even annoyed by my own child self for being so bloody stupid.
I think a lot of people are like that. I don't mind kids as long as I have some form of authority over them, which is why I can't stand them on Xbox Live or on the internet, "Don't take the Sniper Rifle! Its mine, cause I want to get it!". No fucking moderation on the little shits.

By the gods, really?! Those arrogant little shits just begged to be shot in the face, talking to me like that.
Hint: Use the "Child at Heart" perk. It's utterly fantastic.

It doesn't fix Princess, but hey. She wasn't as bad as some of the other NPCs.[/quote]

You do know you can shut her up by talking to one of the other kids about her, can't remember his name. But she throws a fit and gets all angry at you.

My reaction to see her crying and getting angry.

I have nothing against you or couples who decide not to have children either, what I do have a problem with is when individuals rant on about how much they hate kids and all the problems that supposedly come with them, indirectly criticising the choice of parents, then suddenly change tact to "what right do you have to criticise my choice?" as soon as someone points out the other side of the argument, i.e. the benefits of having children. Luckily it seems you don't fall under that crowd, however an unfortunate number of Escapists including the OP do.

Having lived in the same house as my nephew and niece, often at the SAME TIME, I am completely repulsed by the idea of having kids of my own.

Which I imagine would make the already monumental task of finding a woman even harder. Boo, sucks.

I'm sorry, but if looking at the little bundles of joy doesn't just make you happy then.....you are a bad person. :p

How can you people be so heartless?
Oh my gosh, you have discovered that individuals react differently to different stimuli and have different preferences! Well done, well done indeed.

But, you're saying that people are BAD if they don't feel the same way as YOU do. Close, but no cigar!
Look up sarcasm. The emoticon should have made it obvious, but I guess I have to spell it out for some of you.

I've been an uncle since I was but a wee lad myself, and seeing as how I've spent a healthy portion of my life with my nephew and two nieces, I can safely say that I adore children! I know that being an uncle and an actual parent are two drastically different positions, but nevertheless, I eagerly look forward to starting a family of my own down the road once I've settled. (And this is coming from someone who used to be not-too-fond of the idea of having kids in general.)

Be that as it may though, I hold nothing against people who aren't big on kids or the idea of having 'em. Doesn't make you selfish or any less of a respectable human being. Views and preferences vary from person to person. It's that simple, really.

I like them, and I hate them.

They are cute, stupid small persons.

I am undecided wether to get any, but I probably wont, the reason why is complex but it boils down to:

I would rather be 80 years old and regret never having a child than be 30 and regret having one.

I like kids, but I'm not planning on ever having any. I don't think myself responsible enough.

It really depends on the kid to be honest, some kids are just bad, back when I was volunteering as a Teachers assistant there were some kids that just misbehaved and were generally annoying, then you look at the parents and then you understand why.

For the most part though I do like kids. One of the great thing about kids is you can actually have a conversation with them and they don't already have predetermined views, with adults you just feel like your waiting for your turn to speak.

It can be fun to teach kids things as well, you get a really good feeling when you see a kids face light up because you helped them understand a concept or idea they were having trouble with. Lastly kids know how to have fun and play games which adults don't really do a lot of. You start off by pretending and before you know it you are actually playing as well lol.

I'm sorry for making a mistake, but you also ought to know that a commonplace emoticon that is often stuck into places with no clear indication what emotion it's supposed to stand for is no telltale sign of sarcasm.

Great with the right sauce and seasonings, preferred barbecued or rotisserie, I'd say. I'll get around to having a couple, a few years from now.

But you DID claim that people were "missing out" and basically created this smug cloud around you. I've seen no Escapist claim what you said they were claiming. All I've seen is either people saying they don't want to have children and people saying they don't like children.

That's what the OP was doing, I simply told him that having a child could bring happiness more than money or free-time and immediately he went into a rant about how he wouldn't "follow my norm". I stand by that statement, yes it is a little bit harsh and contested, but it's no more offensive than many of the posts on this thread. In-fact, this is a little nugget by you I found on page 6 before we started this debate:

Money sucking pieces of shit that will ruin your mental and physical health over the course of 20 to 30 years
Now don't get me wrong, everyone has the right to their own opinion, but after saying that you can't exactly hold me up for being offensive.

99% percent of small children I want to throw at other small children only to yank them back by their tongues. A select few I find to be completely fine.

I will not have more than 1. If any. Probably 1 though. No favouritism, extra money for that one, extra care, no sibling hate, only 1 to get out the house on a irritated/ aroused day. Good for me, my wife and the child.

You weren't offensive, you were smug.

And that is my opinion of children. There are loads of hardships to go through in order to raise a child and certain people either don't feel up to it or don't want to go through it. Now how about we leave it at that and agree to disagree?

Very well, its not like either of us are going to change our opinion any time soon. One thing I will warn you about though: you've probably noticed the mass uproar you get every time you claim to hate children, this is because when you say stuff like that the most parents will take it as a direct insult at their child, i.e. the most important thing in their life, whether you mean it or not. I'm warning you now because it's probably best you keep that to yourself unless you want a load of parents screaming insults and smugness at you.

And yes, I'm very smug about my little sister. Who wouldn't be when she asks questions as great as "Can fat people get married?" :-D

Ok I have a few answers:

Be gone hellspawn!

Don't touch me I don't know where you have been.

Ask your parents if they got a license to have you.

If the parent has put them through obedience school they are not too bad but if they are wild then my hate swells.
