You weren't offensive, you were smug.

And that is my opinion of children. There are loads of hardships to go through in order to raise a child and certain people either don't feel up to it or don't want to go through it. Now how about we leave it at that and agree to disagree?
Very well, its not like either of us are going to change our opinion any time soon. One thing I will warn you about though: you've probably noticed the mass uproar you get every time you claim to hate children, this is because when you say stuff like that the most parents will take it as a direct insult at their child, i.e. the most important thing in their life, whether you mean it or not. I'm warning you now because it's probably best you keep that to yourself unless you want a load of parents screaming insults and smugness at you.

And yes, I'm very smug about my little sister. Who wouldn't be when she asks questions as great as "Can fat people get married?" :-D

I don't care. I have the right to express my opinion and I will. I don't care about children, I hate them and I especially hate having them around and if I am ever in the company of a parent who will not shut up about his or her child I will tell them to shut up.

It's up to you, just don't complain when a load of parents tell you their opinion then, as a lot of child-haters seem to do that. Since your so keen on your right to give your opinion, I'll give mine: children are most beautiful and precious things in the entire world and it's the sacred duty of all adults to protect and care for them, including those without their own biological offspring.

Kids playing out on the street... Fine.
Kids playing in the park... Fine.
Kids being kids in and around their school... Fine.

Kid throwing a tantrum in the supermarket... kill the parent.
Kid running around a restaurant... kill the parent.
Kid screaming on a flight while everyone else is trying to sleep... kill the parent.

I see a pattern. Bogan parents breed bogan kids. I have intelligent friends who feed their kids the proper food and raise them with proper ethics, and they are angels to be around.

We need to find another island to send all the bogans to.

And I believe children are the scum of the earth, bent on sucking you dry of money. They're annoying little snot monsters that enjoy making your life a living hell. It's not every adults job of protecting a child, it's the parents.

I'm not gonna vote. Because none of the options describe how I feel about them.
When I was a little younger (being 22, it can't have been that long ago), kids freaked me out. Granted, they still do, it's just not on the same level. And I've no doubt one day I will want children myself.

Well you're evidently a little bundle of sunshine aren't you? I can see now exactly why children love you and don't annoy you.

So I'm a bad person for not liking children?

I like people until they talk. Kids talk or make noise constantly. I think you see where I'm going with this.

I wouldn't say that but you don't seem to be the optimistic person I've ever met. Try to see good in everything you see, it makes life infinitely more worthwhile. You may change as you get older, until a couple of years I was ambiant to all children except my sister, now I couldn't live without the little darlings =D

Why am I a pessimist if I hate children?

I doubt many people are complaining about your opinions here, I think the problem here is that you've been presenting them like a condescending douchebag. If you find it so disheartening that people don't like children, stop contributing to child hate by tossing more fuel into the fire. The main reason why people fly off into child- and parent-hating rants in the first place is because of the frequency with which some of the more self-entitled and judgmental child enthusiasts end up making baseless accusations and demands.

For example, I've been pretty damn sparing of my words when my mother and elder sister stopped pestering me about this issue. I still don't like children, but I don't need to go anywhere to vent off my frustration anymore.

(Btw, they only stopped pestering me after me having made it extremely clear why I'd be bad parent material and after my mother got grandchildren from somebody else. Now imagine what it must be like for those who seem capable enough to rear a child but just don't want to.)

I've only been reacting to what's already been said, what a lot of people don't seem to realise is that when you describe children as "little shits", "money-drainers" etc you're insulting the thing that parents love most, so evidently they aren't always going to react nicely. As I've said numerous times before, if you don't complain about kids then I have no problem with you, however there's no way I can stand by when people let off barrages of pointless hate. In retrospect I probably should have been a little more diplomatic, but I can't see how I could express my honest opinion any nicer.

An optimist always looks on the bright side of life, and looks for the good things in everything. I find it hard to believe that an optimist could hate children so much that they consider them "the scum of the Earth", though a little bit of dislike if you're younger could be understandable.

That's one of the worst ways to look at life in my opinion. A balanced life is a good life. Ergo, taking the glass half full but half empty if that makes sense.

Well, if you can't handle people disliking something you like, then I guess you'll stand there and take the barrage of hate by yourself. You could just politely point out that others are being awfully rude instead of being condescending, but hay, nobody's stopping you, just criticising you.

But, while I'm at it, let me suggest something. Remember this part from your comment on page 1?

OT: Already given my opinion once before, but might as well add that there's nothing I want more than a little daughter of my very own to look after =D

Edit: Since this was posted, I've seen a depressing amount of child-hating going on here. Since I can't reply and contest all of them, instead I'll simply say this: it's a normal teenage/young adult mindset to hate kids (most of my friends do) and luckily most of you will grow out of it, learning to see the very traits you claim are annoying instead to be endearing, as they should be.
How about you stop assuming and announcing that this is a phase that people will grow out of? Really, if you are a parent like you claim to be, you have no business saying this to anybody, least of all minors who you seem to assume to be talking about in that post. Kids' and young adults' lives aren't a "phase" just because they're developing, it's their lives and they're all going to carry parts of it into adulthood.

Childhood is something that all of our lives are built upon, as little as some of us might think of children or childhood. You do not know what traits and opinions are going to last to a person's death bed, so stop pretending that you do -- it's only going to make people, including your kid sister, think less of your words and disregard the rest of your expertise.

Besides, all people are developing, deteriorating, or both -- constantly! By the logic that young adults' words shouldn't be taken seriously because they're likely to change over time, none of us should ever be taken seriously.

Children have always annoyed me. They're chaotic, senseless little creatures who serve only to break, move or otherwise ruin anything left out in the open.

They do have their moments but as of now I don't want to have to care for any.

I understand what you mean, but I don't agree with it. Very well, I believe it's time to end this debate, as neither of us are going to give in. We'll have to agree to disagree. Nice speaking to you.

I admit I probably should have been diplomatic, but no-ones perfect, and it's not like I'm the only one who's been over-the-top.

Just saying, that from my own experience in real life, the vast majority of young adult males and a large percentage of females claim that they don't want children, then change their minds later in life. I'm not saying that every single person here will change their minds, just a large chunk of them.

Phases are definitely real, for example many (important note: not all) children go through a "religious" phase between about 6 and 9, when they're old enough to properly understand religion for the first time but not yet old enough to think critically about it. After that stage, some will decide religion is true and gain a deeper understanding of it, others will dismiss it as false. Opinion of children in the teenage years is the same thing.

Phases are real, but all of us are living one because they are by no means restricted to childhood. Adulthood has phases too -- the so-called "mid-age crisis" is one of them.

That's completely true, I'm in several phases right now. Honestly though, I don't believe that every single user on here who claims they won't have kids will never change their minds, because of both simple statistics (about 85% of Americans have atleast one child by their mid-forties) and my own experience considering all but one of my male friends claimed when they were teens that they never wanted kids.

Please note I'm not making this judgement on any particular individual, including you, I'm merely saying that the likeihood is that this will happen to a large of chunk of the group has a whole.
