well, I live in a small town with its own police force, which means the cops are all assholes because they're bored as shit, but I generally find that a lot of people I know online are cops or military and they all seem pretty cool, so... mostly neutral, but they're alright.

We need them. Imagine a world without policing. It would be chaos.
A few bad cops does not reflect the whole of the police force and it's the politicians that create the laws (most of which are mental i agree).

Pretty much how I feel about most groups. Mainly good with a few bad seeds that fuck it up and make the rest of them look bad.

Wow, that sounds awful :/
Reminds me of that Corrie storyline when I used to watch it...

They've helped out a fair bit, but I found them useless when my dad used to sit outside my house in his car ready to kidnap me again.
They're helpful, but I don't always fully agree with them.

I've never had any real problem with them. To me, having someone there to enforce the law is way better then the alternative. I do feel as though some of the laws they're expected to enforce and the amount of paperwork they've got to go through to do it can be rather daft.
I do hear a fair few horror stories, but most of them seem to come from the other side of the pond and a good chunk of them (but sadly not all) could be avoided if folks knew more about their rights.

They dont have enough power.

They should be able to take criminals down without fearing getting sued for assualt.

I don't really care as long as they do the job, and I suppose I might admire them if I ever hear about them doing anything extra special.

But a fair amount of them don't really do all that much and there seems to be an increasing number of Officers who think they create the law and don't have to respect it, instead of just upholding it. Which is a bad thing, especially when it develops into the situations you've described.

I've not had a problem with the police they do what they do for a reason and help keep the peace. However community support officers (which are found lurking in large housing estates) on the other hand are nosey idiots with nothing better to do then poke their nose in when you do somthing little like drop a cigarette butt on the floor and issue a fine for it or something its stupid.

So how do you feel about cops?

I never Liked them, its a famliy thing. My Dad was throwen into jail for 2 years for a non-voilent drug crime, my mom was sexually assaulted by a cop and abused while being arrested for missing a probation meeting on her birthday. We tried to press charges but he got away with it. The cop stalked my famliy for a long while broke down are door once even though it was unlocked and he had no reason too.

But down to the point how do you feel about them and what personal experience have you have with them?
My stepdad is a policeman, and while he is the most stupid person I have ever met, he is also quite a nice guy.

And concerning your experiences with cops: The guy who did that to your mom seems pretty bad, but you're not telling us what she was on probation for. Also, he was one person, not the entire police force. And concerning your dad, first of all he did commit a drug crime, it's not like he shoplifted a candybar. Of course you think it was too harsh, you're his son, but to be honest you're not exactly unbiased. And isn't it the judge who decides the punishment? So how is it the fault of the police that the judge was unfair (or unfair in your opinion)?

I've never had any problem with them myself, for I am a decent law abiding citizen! All of the cops I've met have been pretty nice people.
This. And now I realize George Orwell would want my head on a stake for being such a controlled little goody-two-shoes.

The majority of them get into the job because they crave power, but are too thick to get into any other sort of powerful position.
And the type of people who crave power are the ones who really shouldn't have it.

My experiences with the police have been frustrating, to say the least. The ones that weren't corrupt as all hell were completely incompetant.
That said, I do not hold a grudge against police officers in general. Some of them really do only get into the job to serve and protect.
So rather than condemn the lot of them for being power-hungry thugs and incompetant idiots, I like to give them the benifit of the doubt.
Because I am totally fucking naive, it seems.

I like cops in general, at least where I'm from. Except when I'm in my car. Then they become demon spawn, hell bent on spoiling my day.

I have no problem with police officers, PCSOs are a different story. But my main problem is with the people who LOVE the police, when you think the police are allowed to punish innocent people to deter a potential minor crime... Thats when corruption spreads.

They're just doing their jobs. Unfortunately, like in all areas of life, there are a tiny minority who give the others a bad name.
