My honest opinion: Swearing is fine on occasion. When I hear little kids do it, I feel bad for them because they think "they're so cool" when in reality, everyone looks down on them.

I normally swear when I'm trying to make a point, such as in an argument. In a serious discussion [what most people think of as arguments apparently] I don't really.

Also if I get hurt in some way, I am not censoring myself.

I swear all the time, provided the situation allows for it. I'm normally pretty good about self censoring, but if I'm just with my brothers or friends, I'm like a sailor. During Christmas, I accidentally let off a big string of curses in front of my highly conservative fundamentalist Christian family. That was awkward as fuck.

Time and place, really. A swear here and there doesn't matter, but it just gets silly when some people communicate almost entirely through swears.

I don't have a problem with other people swearing, but I don't like doing it myself. I rarely go above "bastard" and I don't think I've ever said "fuck" in my life.

I'm Scottish. Cursing is our form of punctuation over here.

Also reminded me of this video from a few years back

It can be used, very sparingly, to provide emphasis. It is not for every day communication.

People who swear often and seemingly for the sake of it do not endear themselves to me. I tend to associate it with those people not really having much going on in their lives.

When I was younger I swore more often, thinking it impressive. I grew out of it. Those who fail to grow out of it bore and annoy me.

I try to avoid swearing too much. But I don't really mind when other people do it.

I swear a fair bit, but I try to avoid using it when there's no need to. I use it for emphasis or because I'm annoyed or angry. I avoid it when talking to people I don't know usually, I try to be polite.

I use it for emphasis.
In polite company I don't swear.
You shouldn't use it in General Chat, but it should be allowed in guild chat.
I used to be in a WoW guild with a mature lady and she had a go at me for using bad language... That's bullshit imo. I don't have a go at people using english.

I've no issue with it, but am uncomfortable when it's used by or around children. To me, that's just trashy.

I use it quite a lot, but that's because I don't believe in such a thing as "bad words." Words are a human invention, we decide what they mean, so we decide if they're somehow "evil." And honestly the words that are considered "bad" are mostly words that refer to natural bodily functions or anatomy. Fuck=sex, shit/crap=poop, piss=pee, dick/cock=penis, pussy/****=vagina. What makes fuck better than sex or intercourse or making love? Just the fact that our parents said that it was bad, their parents told them it was bad, and so on and so forth.

BUT words such as ******, wetback, ******, oreo NEVER cross my lips as an insult or slur because those actually have hurtful meaning and intent. Unless having a discussion or debate of some kind, you normally wouldn't say those words unless you're trying to insult someone over things they can't change, their skin color, their heritage, their sexual orientation.

That being said, I do try to be mindful of when and where I use my language. Around my peers and friends, alright, around my professors, grandmother, and other people that might be offended, I don't. I don't mind restricting myself because I like others to be comfortable around me.

EDIT: OH! and I've lived a man (my mother's boyfriend) who felt he was better than everyone else because he didn't swear. I have never wanted to scream FUCK into a man's face so much before in my entire life. I HATE those people. If you don't want to swear, that's fine, but it doesn't make you better than me.

Speaking as someone who has been cussing for 13 of his 16 years on Earth, I have no problem with cussing. It's just another one of the parts of speech to me.

Before you assume I'm white trash or something, let me tell you that I didn't have bad parents. I grew up in a liberal atheist household.

Any profanity is fine tbh, obviously there's a time, a place and a situation.

The only word that makes me cringe is "****", I just hate the word. It doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely as "fuck". Saying the word just feels nasty ):

I pretty much only swear when I'm alone.

A big argument I've heard for swearing, is that it's just words, and people shouldn't be offended by it. I've never agreed with this. If it's just words, then don't use them and offend people! Be the bigger man, and just find a different way to express yourself.
