States and the monopoly of law & its enforcement is bullshit. Poly-centric law would be so much less corrupt.
Would be?

It was not and is not.

See: Nazi Polycratic State, Parts of Sub-Saharan Africa.
Thats not true poly-centric law, and not the only example of something close to it, take medieval Iceland for example.

Policemen aren't qualified enough for the task they need to perform.

Ehh. I respect them I suppose, and I laugh a little about how poorly they're shown to do in fimls and on television. I watched the Dark Knight wodndering throughout why ANYONE would want to become a police officer in Gothan city, or, for that matter, live there at all.
that pointless observation aside, I respect Police Officers, but I wouldn't want to be one, by any means.

There was a comic book set in Gotham I believe, which focused mostly on the police with Batman just popping up here and there to help them out with the real nasties. Sadly it doesn't run anymore.

Dunno never read it. I heard it was good and the concept seems wonderful, viewing the world of supers from the viewpoint of policeman (I do beleive they were a special unit though) so meh. Gotham Central I beleive it was called.

They're ordinary, generally decent people who have a thankless and incredibly dangerous job. There's assholes on the force just like there's assholes in: the army, the government, and every other job in existance. Some of them are power trippers, most aren't.

Everyone hates cops, until they need one.

well out here....it's a clogged system, being bottled necked by stupidity and burocracy, so the real job that needs to get done, isen't. they tend to ONLY bust drug dealers and such, so they can sell there goods, while getting paid on the job to do so, to a younger crowd. so fuck the police >=(

yes it was called Gotham central and it was quite good, it fleshed out gotham a bit more as well as characters such as detective montana i highly recommend it it plays out like an awesome cop drama if that cop dram was constantly assaulted by killers and psychos in gimp masks (batman is in it but VERY rarely and even when he is hes in the background and complements the story rather than overpowering and taking it over)

as for the question of wether i like the police otr not, id have to anweser yes there an important part of socity and dererve are full respect

I respect them for doing a thankless job. Sure, the odd one can be a rotten apple, but that is the same as any line of work, no point smearing the whole group because of that one.
So, I like the police.
Agreed. Unfortunately for me (or rather, unfortunately for the mass of children on the bus), I've had the displeasure of seeing a bad apple cop. Back story time.

The bus driver (s/he was okay, but a bit off kilter) claimed s/he saw some kids up the back throwing around a blue projectile weapon (s/he pulled the bus over at this point).. The kids in question, well, I wouldn't put it past them, but to their credit, nobody saw (and I don't mean in the 'Lalalalalalala, I don't see anything, lalalalala' way), and when s/he pulled the bus over the came foward showing her/him things it might have been (the blue school cap, one of the kid's dustpans from metalwork. etc). Anyways, after one of the older boys (from a different school, you know, the ones who sit up the back and keep the little kids from bouncing off the walls) came down the front and talked to her/him we finally got moving ... two minutes later s/he pulls over at a nearby shopping centre thingy (t is on the route and is an official bus stop, but no-one was getting off). Then the cops pull up, s/he gets ff, talks to them, and then one of them gets on. He starts bad-mouthing us, being really aggressive about it, says that he has kids himself, so he is going to trust the bus driver on this because kids cannot be trusted (apparently). Then he starts goig on about how we come from some of the best Christian schools in the area, saying we are treating the bus driver like an animal, how we are acting like animals, a bunch of barbarians, and then in his animal/barbarian tirade, he calls us atheists (just once, I almost thought I'd misheard, I actually went and checked with a bunch of different people from different seating areas of the bus (the next day) just to check I wasn't hearing things). And at this point, between his raised voice, his blatant mistrust of children, his constant stream of insults, and the fact that most of the younger kids on the bus didn't have an alternative means of transport (like a parent) home. So anyway, here he is, raising his vice, making us feel like we are in legal trouble (for something none of us had done (and even if we had, the kids the bus driver accused had already gotten off)), and the younger kids are left on a bus for ages, waiting for a replacement driver, with this arrogant, son-of-a-***** cop outside, some of them brought to the point of tears.

So yeah, I've had an experience with a bad (and really, atheist, as an insult?) cop once, but like Greyfox said, you can't let one bad-apple smear your opinion of the entire profession. Frankly I think cops are very important (though for some reason, I feel greater respect when an Ambo or a Firey whizzes past with their siren on than a cop), in a sort of 'military way'. You know, they have their main job of catching criminals and stuff, but they also help out in less direct places (for example, directing traffic when their's an accident, or something goes wrong with the lights, like how the military doesn't just defend the country, but also helps out in times of natural disasters).

So I like the police, I respect the police, I've had a bad experience with the police, but I know that it was just an isolated incident, and was more a case of the cop being a terrible person, than an actual crooked cop.

Most of the time the police are fine - generally the most I see of them are the odd patrol in town or as they go screeching past. However, their behaviour around protests always seems to be crap - for some reason exercising certain democratic rights - ie to peaceful protest - is a ticket to be detained without charge. I don't get why they seem to enjoy cracking down on protests so much, always persecuting the majority whilst not giving a shit about the actual trouble makers. Always pisses me off.

In general, or in my country? In general they are an important part of society and should be respected. In my country they are corrupt and inefficient (like basically everything else here - so in comparison they aren't actually that bad).

The police officers, they're people just like us this is how they feed their families but some (a lot) are total dicks with many being racist or not having an understanding of the bigger picture.

The system, is absolutely terrible. Companies make money off of inmates in their private prisons which is why you can go to jail/prison so easy.
The justice system is all about making as much money off the people you can not keeping us safe. It is also incredibly biased against some people. They don't care about he people that need help the most they just want you behind bars so they can make money off you. The justice system is also incredibly racist and sexist. I'd like a change but most people don't realize what's really going on and buy in to the lies.

I live in an extremely quiet neighborhood, so I dont really like them too much. Not because they uphold the law, but because they are extremely over staffed for what we have in my town. All they seem to do is yell at my friends and me when we play street hockey or soccer, and break up our parties.

They have the misfortune of being people. People are notoriously flawed. When they're not corrupt, they're usually inept.

But they have an important job to do. And I grudgingly respect them for it.
If I was not a bluh bluh huge cripple, I would have joined them.

If they are tracking down some real bad people like murders and the like I am happy with that they are doing. When you get a police guy raking in the peasful types like the pot heads and the like I am not so happy.
There are good and bad police guys, most have some sort of quita they are ment to keep to meaning if one comes for a chat you should have your wites about you especilly considering you could be braking tones of laws without you even knowing it.
Treat them as an advisary and they are fine, keep chats short and remember you don't have to tell them anything and you don't have to give them your name or ID unless your driving.
The police are nessasary but what they do needs changing from catching real bad guys and not just revinue earners.

Someone has to keep order in every society, but it's better when good people do it.
