I don't think I've ever said anything other than the letters or "frequently asked questions."

The normal way...

I'll leave the decision of which one I am talking about up to you.
the normal way is "F.A.Q." because it's an acronym; I have no clue when people started trying to pronounce acronyms...

lol --> lawl
MMORPG --> Ma-Mor-Pa-Ga
FAQ --> Fack

how long until...
OMG --> Ohm-ga
WTF --> wha-tifff

I mean seriously people; what's with it? you're not being "cute" you're being annoying...
Indeed, this is true. The normal "pronunciation" of acronyms is just to say the letters. Some have become common use words, like SCUBA, but most are created for ease of writing or speech, not for word creation. It seems strange that we try to pronounce all of them now.

Though, I do admit to having said "lol" as "lawl," before.

some things are understandable

like ASAP, SCUBA, AWOL, my name WOPR (Whopper... *sigh*)

but things that are 3 letters long that were on the internet that are still pretty dang short to just say out (or say the letters) don't really need to be said like that

like when people say "OH EM GEE" I think "You know you could have just said 'Oh My God' and used the same amount of letters and syllables and NOT end up sounding like a total stereotype for textaholic girls everywhere..."

(same thing with "Ai De Kay" and "question mark?" instead of saying "I don't know..." and "huh?")

F.A.Q. Eff A Que from the poll at-least. I usually just say Dinosaur! though.
Heh Weirdo... So do I!

OT: I say Eff Ay Cue unless I'm talking about Gamefaqs.com, then it's Game Facks.

In my mind, I always pronounce it "FuckYou" x.x.
Out loud/writing down, both "eff ay que" or "fack", no real preference.

PRE-WATCHING THE PENN AND TELLER VIDEO: I very rarely pronounce shorter acronyms in the way they appear to be. Usually I spell them out. So, in the case of FAQ, I would say "Eff-aye(as in "say")-cue." If I'm talking about it or pointing it out to someone who might not know the acronym, I'd just say it out, "Frequently asked questions."

POST-WATCHING SAID VIDEO: Alright, so to put it in "proper" terms, I usually treat shorter acronyms like initialisms.

I say both 'Eff Ay Cue' and 'Fack'
I think it really just depends on how lazy I'm feeling.

When you use a lot of acronyms, you start to sound like an idiot when you actually spell them out.

High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMVE)= Hum-vee
Government Purposes(GP) = Jeep
Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA) = Scu-ba
Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile(AMRAAM) = Am-ram
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) = Na-sa

It's not unusual to create phonetic pronunciations of acronyms, especially considering cumbersome these acronyms can be.

Try making a sentence using a couple acronym-words, and pronounce each and every letter. Tell me you don't sound like an ass.

I'll admit I didn't know the Jeep one

but again from the video I need to thank the user for posting, there IS a difference between acronyms and initialisms.

Well, I stand corrected!

At some point, I knew this, but have since rid it from my mind. Thanks for the reminder! It's something I should've known!

So, the way to pronounce FAQ would be "Fack," if you indeed would like to treat it as an acronym. I think it sounds better as an intialism, though.

I just say fak, making it somehow sound not like fuck. I don't know how, but I manage.

Unless your Dutch, where "lol" is an actual word as well, having a meaning pretty close to the English acronym to boot.

As for why that's happening, some acronyms get so integrated into, by lack of a better word, regular language that they at one point get treated like regular words.
