The way I see it, Halo is a variant of the Marmite phenomenon. It's not a love-or-hate, but a love-or-OK. No one really hates it, and I believe that those who say they do, do it out of spite towards the massive fanbase. I belong in the OK camp. I have only played the first two on the PC and quite a bit of 3 on a mate's XB360.
To me, it's just another FPS. I really liked the fast action and the way it handled. The story was OK, but not great. At times it was lame, the enemy chatter was pretty WTF, but in all it wasn't boring. The first one got my adrenaline running so I must say I enjoyed it for that. Beyond that though, I fail to see how it is a revelation as many people seem to think it is. To me, and I think to all the other OK-ers, it's just another fast-paced, action-packed FPS.

Halo (the original one) was spectacular, to say the least. Halo2, Halo3 and Halo Wars all failed to live up to their predecessor in my opinion. Halo ODST is good though. So as a franchise is only ok. However take just Halo and Halo ODST and you've got yourself pure gold.

Personaly I liked ODST for it's variety and slower pacing. The story was actually told in a decent manner as well (except for the disapointing ending)

The Story in Halo Wars was also pretty good, and even though the gameplay wasn't "deep" by any stretch of imagination I felt that it that that "Halo" feel and that is was mostly focused on fast action

Shame on you

They are good, I guess. Not into FPS's. And the FPS's I do like are more down to earth than this.
I hardly noticed you there Hub without your seizure inducing monkey.

I think it's bad not terrible not good just below average, but I hate the series for what it did to fps genre as a whole and that is basically create a standard for which u can make money. I mean for a while there it looked like fps' could go anywhere because the original standard(being Doom) is only slightly more technically advanced then a piece of graph paper. to me it seemed that before Halo came out fps was really a genre to experiment with story telling, concept and gamplay encompassing RPG, platforming, and cinematic elements that can turn out very well done and original ideas that both take huge leaps for the genre and medium as a whole by making an interactive intelligent experience that appeals to both adults and children being both fun and philosophical but then Halo came along and somehow became extremely popular and cutting out well told story and intelligent hybrid gameplay for straight forward kill everything that moves gameplay that really set the medium back both in the eyes of the media and in my heart because of it's simple badly written story and cookie cutter characters that might as well be a reunion of the cast from predator but after 100 years so only the unlikeable ones show up and even then they don't know whats happening...

Edit: damn it took me so long to write this 25 people posted before I did...

Feels better without it. It was a little too "In your face" for my taste.

I guess I have to take your word for it since I don't own an X360 (and never intend to buy one) and I don't see them releasing the rest of the series on the PC any time soon.

Then again, I might borrow ze mate's XB and buy a cheap, used copy of H3 and ODST at some point in the not-so-distant future.

First game was good. Had a decent solo campaign and fun multilplayer, which my friends and I played a lot.

Very shallow. Too popular for its own good, and not nearly as brillant as others say it is. Dont flame me, im not trolling, its just my opinion. I'll say nothing more on the subject. (raises flame shields anyway)

At the very least I've had fun times with friends over it, and it's sure as hell good to have around at parties. I also casually enjoy the backstory.

So instead of seizures I get hypnotized by the movement of that guys feet.

A vast improvement.
