i've had to send my 360 in for a minor disk drive repair... in which it was saying "please put this disk into an xbox 360 console" right after the xbox 360 logo popped up lol...

anyway apart from that i still have the original nintendo... lol XD

and of course like N64, PS, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube.. etc...

I'm not sure how many times I've mentioned this but I've had numerous problems with a few consoles, I treat them exceptionally well, I don't smoke, I don't hit my consoles, I dust them with a cloth and yet I get problems.

I've lost six Xbox 360's in five months (thank the computer god for bestbuy's warrenty), three PS2's in 5 years and one Xbox1. This is only highlighted by my friends luck with their consoles, one has a launch PS2 and used the heck out of it, another abused his PS2 (kicking it, tossing it) and they still worked, my other friend JUST lost his 360 and sent it in, but man I've got some horrible, horrible luck with this.

I know there was a reason for the 360 and the PS2, and microsoft did help out when they realized their error, but I've had my Genesis since 1991 and it's never needed fixing, cleaning replacement parts or updating,. (the last one was just poking fun at gaming today) Sure there's less moving parts in it but that's just crazy to me that it's lasted so long. Honestly these are the only systems I've had to replace ever, I consider myself to be indifferent to the consoles I have, I don't care who made 'em as long as they have good games.

Who else has had major consoles failures? If so, have any good stories to share?
Are you keeping them submerged in water or under a super dusty couch or something???

As for me, the only system that has died on me so far is my Dreamcast... :( [tangent]Such a great machine...why did it have to be so unerrated...[/tangent]
I'm proud to say that I'm still on my first 360, and it is even one of the older ones too.

My 360 had a two and a half year run without problems then it bricked. My PS2 died in the desert, probably thanks to sand helping erode the moving bits.

No, sadly I treat my machines very kindly and dust them, keep in an open area so they can breath cooler air and cuddle them when they get lonely, maybe that's the problem, maybe I should bust out the whip and dunking tank since as I've learned from my friends and from other members here at the escapist here that's what works.

Like I've stated before the only systems that actually have given me trouble are my 360 and PS2, I'm hoping the slim PS2 doesn't require me opening it and fiddling with gears so much as the previous larger model (as that fixed the D.R.E. problems), but oh well, in the end there will always be my Genesis. Long live genesis and blast processing.

Only console to ever die on me is my Xbox 360. I had 3 go bad, and had to replace the dvd drive in the 4th as well as have it serviced for RROD. Still on my original PS2, its covered in dust, and I have played it far more then all 4 of my 360's combined

Since over half the responders have never had a dead console... i'd say its more than just being lucky.

My NES still works. So does the SNES, original gameboy, GBA, N64, gamecube, and ps1 (last time i checked)

None, have failed on me or been beaten to death. My brother and I treated the NES we had very badly. He would hit it and gave the housing a huge crack down the top, and spilled all kinds of beverages and pizza on it. Most notably the milkshake that he got inside the machine and it still worked as reliably as ever. My Genesis had a problem with its power adapter but I don't count that as a problem with the console and it was easily replaced. Everything else has worked perfectly and still does, but I've started to baby them more and more the older I get.

I've owned all nintendo consoles since the SNES... and never had any tech issues with them at all. My Wii got nicked, but was covered by insurance so got a nice new one :D

Oh, and I destroyed a graphics card in my last PC, does that count? (It was over 5 years old and being made to run high end games.)

My N64 still works, but you have to jiggle the games a bit if they don't load right away. Silly thing >o<

I would say computer issues count, as they're usually the worst problems since you have to find what's broken vs returning the unit.

I dropped a hand held Sega that i had, cracked the screen pretty badly and it wouldn't turn on. Also, I had the original xbox and when i bought my 360 it pretty much died. The disc tray wouldn't respond, had some memory issues so i declared it dead, but more or less brain dead. I also had one 360 red ring, probably from plaing CoD 4 too much for too long.

You need to be really careful about how long you play and how actively you do it. It you take a break ever 2 hours, you might extend your consoles life longer than going on a game binge.

Although I have no "next-gen" consoles, which makes my friends all like "wat u doin wit dat pc? reel men play XBAWKXZ!!!" ...

None of my systems have ever failed me. My NES's power cable gets loose but that's about the only problem I have with anything, including an NES, N64, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, and GC.

A lot of my friends have had problems with PS/2 and Xbox 360 though.

Two. Both of them PS2's. The first was one of the oldschool boxy PS2's, for reasons unbeknownst to me. The second was one of the newer, slim PS2's, and it still works to a degree. The power cable just doesn't seem to be connecting inside right in the back. It has to be in just the right position, and if it even moves at all it wont work. Which sucks. Happened once while Guitar Hero III was saving, where it clearly says, "Do not touch the power button." Yup... lost all my data.

Even my NES and oldschool Gameboy still work.

The controllers for my SNES and N64 both broke long after replacement controllers became rare and expensive in my town. I have lost 1 Xbox and 1 Xbox 360.
