Gunshot wounds are pretty survivable if they don't hit any major organs, I think.
Not just pretty. Extremely. Add arteries and the spinal cord to that list, and your fine. Also, just to point it out, the term "major organs" is kind of misleading. Save for your extra kidney, skin (technically speaking) and appendix (if that even counts), none of your organs are "non-essential". And you'd still die without skin, just a bullet wound can't do that.
Even arteries you'd be fine in a non-combat situation, because you (in most cases) would be able to be rushed to a hospital. Even if you were in the field, I'd assume you'd be in more danger of dying from an infected wound than from blood loss.
Naturally, I have no actual experience with gunshot wounds, but I'm paranoid schiz, so I studied up. I was extremely happy to discover that most small arms won't hurt much more than a punch, though the bleeding might (and even then, adrenaline makes that mean after the fact). Oh. And never zigzag. More time for a bead to be drawn on you. Run in a straight line for cover. And thick cover, too. A car door can only stop a very small caliber rifle, and most hand guns. Emphasis on "most".
