For those who haven't played Pokemon, whenever you "catch" a Pokemon, you are given the option to give it a nickname. For people who have played Pokemon, do you give nicknames to your Pokemon? If so, why? And what are their names?

I personally don't nickname my Pokemon. I prefer to keep their names the way they are. (On the very slim chance I do a nuzlocke run I may reconsider, as that seems to be a tradition in nuzlocke runs.)

I never do, because it takes more time, and I don't care enough, nor am I creative enough, to pick good names.

I used to never nickname my Pokemon, now I name all of them something. They're usually named after characters from a game I recently played.

I never nickname my pokemon. Seriously, if I have a Charizard, I'm going to identify him as such if his name is simply Charizard, not "Dave the Orange Dragon."

I usually gave nicknames to ones that I either loved or hated. For instance, I called all my bug Pokemanz "I HATE YOU".

Dragon Pokemon of time?
I'll call you Akatosh.

Which is to say I nickname my pokemon when I have a reason, not just for it's own sake.

I prefer original names for my Pokemon.

I even name my character Ash and my rival Gary.

I nickname them sometimes. If I really like them. But usually just to make a really stupid jokes. For example, I was grinding once in Soul Silver and I ran into a Tauros that used rage on me. I got really excited right away, caught him, and named him Joey. And just recently I caught a Petilil, just so I could name it PetiLOL. Yeah, I'm an idiot.

when i was hooked on pokemon blue (until some freak glitch reset my progress and i never picked up the game again) i nicknamed pretty much every pokemon i caught. usually something stupid, but i'm that way; if i have the option i have some weird compulsion to use it, regardless of actual purpose.

If I'm going to nickname pokemon, I like to stick to a theme. For instance, in my Leaf Green campaign, I gave all my pokemon names in German starting with my bulbasaur being named Grünjäger.

i've only ever named the ones i'm likely to use... ones i'm just catching to catch, meh...

although, the ones you trade with ingame NPCs are ALWAYS obscenely named...

On a second paythrough, for one's I think I'll use.
Though it's really usually underwhelming. I get a whole box of "Fred"s and "Harry"s.

Sometimes. One Blue file I did, but it did not last long. Later on, I usually nicknamed pokemon with very specific purposes (I usually nicknamed pokemone intended for in-game trades, or HM slaves)
Currently I dont though, but I can do it later if I want. Did not even name my current intended HM slave. (Its a male zigzagoon, while the one I actually train is female)
((Playing Emerald atm)

I nickname all of my Pokemon. Although most of the time I name them Steve... and if I catch a Metapod I name it Penis, just so it says Penis used Harden!

Yes, I know I am immature.

As of recently, I nickname every Pokemon I catch. I don't really know why, as I haven't done it in the past all that much. Even the Pokemon I don't even plan on using I name something witty and spur of the moment, before shoving them in my PC.

I'll probably have a huge variety of names by the time I get through this SoulSilver playthrough.

Yeah, I like to name mine. Whether its a character, or it sounds cool, it can add a little touch to help like a pokemon enough to really stick with it. Not always necessary, however. It usually just grabs onto my personal taste or thought at the moment, I don't really plan it out ahead or anything.

Lessee, at the moment we got Osha, Munnie, Armistice, Whackemsmack, Thunda, and Boss.

For some reason, this generation I've felt the need to rename EVERYTHING. I don't know why, but I gain enjoyment from it now.
