I voted for your equivalent of "no, I don't play pokemon". If I did I'd probably name some, as and when I felt like it lol.

I dont, mainly because I lack the creativity to make names. That and breeding for IVs makes all their names seem like the alphabet.

I always think that each Pokemon deserves some sort of really witty name when the option comes up. Unfortunately I'm not that creative so I've given up on the whole idea of nicknames.

I give 'cool' names to the pokémon I like / use.
For all else I incorporate 'twat' into the name somehow - Twatata, Magnetwat, Belltwat, Zutwat, Twatterfree... You get the idea.

My Pokemon are just tools that help me do a job. It'd be like a soldier naming each of his bullets.

I agree the naming thing is pointless, but atleast it's an option. I personally HATE it in games where you have to name bloody everything. An example that always pisses me off is in Harvest Moon, where you have to name EVERY one of your animals. I end up just naming them A, A2, etc.

I never do, because it takes more time, and I don't care enough, nor am I creative enough, to pick good names.
Agreed. Plus, not nicknaming Pokemon helps me keep track of new species and my current party make-up. I know that I have a Excadrill and a Crustle, so I should avoid Water-types likes the plague. My opponent is sending out a Girafarig? My Scrafty is in my party, fantastic! It's easier to keep track of things that way.

The only exception I have to this rule comes when I get a Growlithe/Arcanine. I always name it Growly, or some variant thereof (Growlpha, Growletta, and recently, Arcanis). Yes, it's unoriginal, but that's how I came to refer to my favorite Pokemon.

I do because it makes me feel close to my Pokemon. (Yes, totally sappy, I know.) And if loads of other trainers have a type of Pokemon I want to distinguish mine from the ones I'm battling.

Actually, although I said in the poll I nickname all of them, I don't nickname the legendaries. No point in distinguishing them if there's only supposed to be one of them in the world, and also it seems disrespectful.

Nicknaming is essential if you are going to battle your team.

You can play serious mind games with your opponent by calling your charizard a blastoise, or whatever.
Crafty! :D

I've never given a nickname to my Pokemon before. But I started playing Crystal with my girlfriend and since we have this 'thing' with Psyduck, I caught and named one "Elli"--her shortened name. I also was frustrated and kept calling Chinchou "dumbfish" when it wouldn't appear so I named it that.

Other than that, Kadabra is Kadabra, and my others have their original name.

I nickname all my legendaries but it's usually something sad and demeaning.

I used to nickname every single Pokémon?s I capture but the type of names I nickname had to sound cool so I it became harder over time. These days I will only give the Pokémon nicknames only if they are cool and I will use them in the future. I also plan my nicknames beforehand.

I never did with any of the previous 4 generations, but in black/white I found myself really, really wanting to. I couldn't stand looking at "Sawk" every single battle, so I went and renamed him "Socks" which I know is stupid but it makes me laugh and drives my boyfriend crazy.

Also, "Emolga?" Really? SUCH a dumb name for such a COOL Pokemon. I HAD to give him a super cool nickname, which started out as "Sparklenut" but ended up being "Sparkplug."

Yeah.

For Pokemon Black, I named my character Jaden and nicknamed my Pokemon after Elemental Heroes and other cards Jaden uses.
...Leave.

Edit: Which one is Winged Kuriboh, btw?
