Well...look what we found here :D

Smoked and still am, though its going back and forth, used to be a rather heavy Smoker, but cut down now and then, only to fall back to heavy smoking once more. Now im down to about uh..10 Cigs a day, and only then when i need to concentrate on something. Smoking does help in that regard but to a price, nicotine is poison for the nerves, hence you will feel relaxed cause you poisen your own nervsystem with it. I do drink now and then too, but not as much mostly, sometimes on parties abit more but other than that quite rarely. Dont do hard drugs, did once and god just dont ever start with them, getting off them is hell, seriously, i know. So yeah, best thing to do is dont start smoking or taking drugs, its not cool, its not making you feel better, it just leads to a slow and probably painful death. And by the way, beware of passive smoking, a cig has a filter, a passive smoker doesnt cause they inhale the smoke without any filter, so its worse than active smoking.

Well if its that much more dangerous then match the deaths of smokers due to smoking and those of non smokers...
youll see a very distinctive tendency...
And the passive smoker inhales most of the smoke with TWO filters...the filter in the cig and the lung of the smoker...

What really pisses me off is when smokers say that they are unhappy about their smoking habbit but they just can't stop.

I really can't imagine that it is that damn hard.
That's the point. You really can't imagine how hard it is.

Thumbs up to Whitto. If it was that easy, who'd really still be smoking?

We've all heard stories of people on 60 a day who just stopped. Hell, I stopped for 5 months last year.

It's not about stopping, that's easy. It's about STAYING stopped.

Just remember, car fumes are FAR more dangerous that passive smoking. Match the amount of money given to the NHS by smokers against the amount spent, and you'll see why the Government NEEDS smokers.

I started smoking a little while back but had to force myself to stop, you know for health reasons and all that. It wasn't made any easier by playing BioShock which has smokes lying around all over the place. Seriously, it really pissed me off listening to Jack inhaling.

85% no? I think I just became less of a pessimist. Though this may be because at the college I go to, about 80% of the students smoke something or other.

Never smoked cigarettes but I'm tempted by pipes. I'm told they're barely cancerous if at all (source for support or disagreement would be appreciated) and, come on, pipes!
Pipe smoke has more cancer causing materials than regular cig's.

Onto my response. I've done weed a couple times. it's really fun when you can feel the earth spinning. But other than that I have never smoked. i don't ever want to smoke cigarettes or chew because of the harmful chemicals. But it's awesome to play a trippy game or watch the screen when you're listening to music in the dashboard.

What I never really got is how some smokers can get holes in their throats yatta yatta after only like 30 years. Yet somebody can have smoked for sixty years and not be that much worse for wear. It simply baffles me. Oh and that filter thing that went on above. It's coming off the tip of the cigarette without any filter whatsoever.

I smoke when I get the urge. That usually happens every three months or so. Smoke two or three packs, then stop again. It could be triggered by stress, or a game/book/movie where there's some seriously awesome smoking dude(doesn't happen that often). I suppose I could beat the craving, done it a few times, but find it better to smoke a few after something crappy happens rather feeling emo for weeks.

I'm more worried about my caffeine addiction though, think it's a lot more harmful to be stuffing myself with caffinated crap on a daily basis, than to be having a smoke every once in a while...

Just because I haven't been addicted to smoking doesn't mean that I haven't been addicted to anything else
Could you please provide some examples?

If it really was 'just that easy' to quit, there would be no smokers.

Please forgive the rant, I happen to be trying to quit right now (inspired by this thread) and it most certainly isn't easy. I'm pretty stressed out so I'm sure you'll understand if i get a little annoyed by posts like that coming from non-smokers who have no idea what it's actually like to try giving up.

Peace
ok a couple things here, i agree and disagree with you and i'll explain

i used to smoke, between a half pack and a pack a day at the most back in my teens. i gave up cold turkey and never had an issue, the kicker comes that i WANTED to quit i had enough of smoking and wanted to give it up

smoking or any addiction is easy to give up BUT you have to want to give it up and truly want it. i've know drug addicts who were forced into rehab by the courts, it was rehab or jail they picked rehab. most of them went back to doing drugs soon after getting out, once they wanted to and really truly wanted to they quit.

the ppl i know that say "oh i don't like smoking i should quit", say "well why not do it?" and you will get a few excuses about it and rarely a "you know what i will" and they butt out their smoke

now i do really hate people that preach about not smoking and blah blah and i really hate the "born again" non-smokers that hold it over your head that they quit smoking and such.

personally i just smoke the occasional cuban cigar, as my friend said "castro might be a commie pinko bastard but he's got a great taste in cigars"

and i do agree that both smoking a cigar or cigarette are very relaxing, it's almost like a meditation type thing. once after puffing on a cigar outside after a night of drinking my friends, who were grabbing food, made the comment i was rather relaxed and it looked like i had just been laid. it was just nice to sit there and enjoy the cigar and very relaxing, just wish i could have had a nice glass of port to go with it

I think it varies from person to person. I quit about 4 years ago in the first try, and I've only smoked a few times since... and not enjoyed it very much. Once you get back to the point where smoking makes you cough and you can start to smell it on others again, you tend to lose the urge to smoke - or at least I did.

I don't smoke. Tried it when I was younger to see what all the fuss was about and nearly coughed up a lung.

My closest friend smokes and it does worry me. But she's a smart woman, she knows what she's doing isn't good for her, but she knows that if she tries to stop smoking at this point and time in her life, she'll fall to pieces (stress reliever for her).

My dad used to smoke, then quit. Took him several tries, but he did it.

tl;dr - Quitting is hard. I won't hold anything against smokers that say it's really hard to stop. It's the ones in denial of what it is doing to their health that bug me.

Then again.. It's their choice.

Double edged sword, I guess. For me, anyway.
