During a history seminar, I saw something on a tv documentary and asked whether technically WW2 started in 1937 when Japan invaded China and that 1939 is a very western view on the war, so we debated it, as a group I might add, with me being the most vocal. A week or so later the prof hauled me before the dean saying id been very aggressive and had brought his ability to teach into question.

According to the university, its not a students place to question lecturers and discuss events......so I was thrown out. Complete bullshit if you ask me, I just feel that the guy was power mad.
... the hell?! I thought good teachers encourage their students to question what they teach and good students should question what they're taught...

... what an asshole...

OT: PG Masters... and a pretty good one at that, I'm eminently qualified for it, and yet why can't I find doctoral studentships?! [insert a few pages of expletives insulting the economy and the Tory... sorry, 'Coalition' government]

captcha - results arr diss... Quite so... :(

Graduated Highschool with fairly solid results. Started doing a teaching degree, lasted 4 months, dropped out. Started an apprenticeship and 3 and a half years later fully qualified chef.

College dropout, however I learned more from these men than any school could EVER teach...

And if you think school counts for any KIND of critical education...

George Carlin - dropped out 9th grade
Bill Hicks - college dropout
Lenny Bruce - high school dropout
Steve Jobs - college dropout
Bill Gates - college dropout

George W. Bush attended and completed college!

I rest my case.

GCSE's, A levels and half a degree.

Got turfed out of university because I disagreed with a professor.........now thats what I call petty academic nonsense.
Dam you baited me, what was it about.

I'm sorry but that simply can't be all there was to it. I believe your story but there must have been something else if you would be willing to disclose...

Currently finishing up my first semester of my Junior year of college. Studying Industrial Management and Technology with a focus in Computer Aided Design. I'm hoping to get an Internship either this summer or over my senior year semesters but nothing is set in stone.

currently a sophomore in high-school. next year i go into the school's IB program, and after that, i definitely plan to attend college. im pretty sure my dad would disown me if i didn't considering he is a yale graduate (semi-sarcasm, the point is he pushes me to do my best, and i respect him for that, and therefore see college as something indispensable to my early life)

I did a semester of college before I came to fully realize just how much I despised sitting in class all day doing nothing.

I'm a railroad conductor now.

I have a master's degree, though it's not required by any means in my field. So paying for it kind of sucks, lol.

Because good fucking luck getting a decent job without finishing school.
I was once told that "luck" is when opportunity meets preparedness. The original Medal of Honor game if I'm not mistaken. Besides, they weren't lucky - they perservered against the obstacles with which they were presented, with the exception of Lenny Bruce. Lenny died at 40, some time after his trial, and subsequent conviction, over obscenity. Also, all three comedians on my list were blacklisted in the US at one point - so it shows how much my government loves to uphold that "freedom of speech and expression". If you'd like, I could also include Mr. Sam Kinison in that list - though I'm unaware of his level of education.

Indeed. Funnily enough three of these people found their success in professions that don't require you to have any kind of education and one of them was an entrepreneur. They took completely alternative routes to success. You can make do without higher education, but the fact that it turned out well for a handful of exceptionally talented people is a piss poor validation of it. The thing is, you don't get to hear about the thousands of people it didn't turn out so well for.

Then again, the fact that this guy felt the need to get defensive right off the bat in response to a completely neutral poll suggests he probably knew that already.
