I think it's good that you rested your case because it's rather flawed...CrazyCapnMorgan said:And if you think school counts for any KIND of critical education...
George Carlin - dropped out 9th grade
Bill Hicks - college dropout
Lenny Bruce - high school dropout
Steve Jobs - college dropout
Bill Gates - college dropout
George W. Bush attended and completed college!
I rest my case.
These people are anomalies within their own respective fields:
George Carlin, Bill Hicks and Lenny Bruce may have dropped out. That's fine, they're amazing comedians. In the world of comedians however, I am sure there are plenty of dropouts who are terrible comedians.
Steve Jobs/Bill Gates are another example: Yes. They dropped out. They dropped out to start Apple/Microsoft though. It's not like they dropped out, and then 10 years later said "hey! I'm going to get into computers!" Plus, how many countless people have dropped out that we've never heard about because they've done jack?
And George W. Bush. Ah GW...This is the same kind of argument that people who are anti-vegetarians use to prove their point (i.e. Hitler was a vegetarian = ALL VEGETARIANS ARE BAD RAWR!)
Now, please know that I am only pointing out the flaw in your argument. I make absolutely no judgements about you or your decisions to drop out. Hell, I was a college dropout at first. I quit after my 2nd year of failing grades because I didn't care. 5 years and many occupations later, I returned to school for an AA degree and am now completing a Masters degree.
tl;dr
People do make something of themselves without school. People also are complete asses who do complete school. The inverse is also true.
