None of the above - the Stalker series and the Timesplitters series were not options (blasphemy).

Perfect Dark, man! 4-way Perfect Dark with 8 simulants == ultimate gaming bliss. Also mad props to Counterstrike as well, although I've found it to be near impossible to get back into after not having played for a bunch of years.

Half Life 2 is an awful shooter.

BLOPS is the best on that list, unfortunately. Haven't really played the Halo games.
I guess you need a game that holds shiny objects in front of you and keeps your attention for about 5 seconds and then you'll move onto the next soulless fps.
While the BLOPS campaign is basically shit, I'd take the online mode over Half Life 2: Deathmatch anyday.

I'm going to say either Killzone or Borderlands.

Killzone is just an awesome futuristic setting which I love, with realistic (somewhat) guns and vehicles that are all super fun to fire and use. The story is okay and all, but the real meat is where the action and the focus on detail.

As for Borderlands, the setting and characters are fantastic, as well as the unique way you get new guns. Having the possibilities of guns basically endless is great because it will always let you find a better gun than your last one. It's also a real watercooler game, being able to talk to your friends when you next see them and describe the new assault shotgun you found, or listening to a friend tell you about the epic new sniper rifle he got that blows the top halves of enemies off.

Sadly, I could not list EVERY SINGLE FPS out there, due to space issues.

But props to you my good man.

I put Halo, because I have yet to be disappointed by Halo. I have been disappointed, or haven't played, the other games on that list.

I picked "None of the Above" because I don't play FPS's, just not my cup of tea. I prefer games in the same line of gameplay as God of War, Banjo Kazooie, and the Jack & Daxter series. Since those types of games have been in short supply as of late, I've taken up the point and click adventure genre as my games of choice.

Well, you could take out Gears because it's not an FPS and put something else in.

I picked other as I don't think that I have a favourite series. I have played through quite a few games of several series but I don't think that I will favour a whole series over another.

I liked individual games, separate from their entire series.
I liked CoD 4 but not the whole series. I liked the first 3 or 4 Medal of Honor games, but now dislike them. I like Quake 1 and 2, Unreal Tournament, Portal, Prey, The Darkness, Turok, etc.

Ive definitely logged the most hours in the Battlefield series, overall.

Got a lot of use out of Forge in Halo as well, but Battlefield caught me when I was young and with less responsibilities- got friends around to just dick around in BF1942 especially, trying ridiculous stunts or tactics in capture the flag, or servers that allowed Jeep boosting where you could, with practice, fly around the map in jeeps or have dogfights with the motorcycles that had machine gun sidecars.

Best map overall was Coral Sea. Entirely dogfighting map off of carriers/boarding the other carrier to troll the opposing team, crashing on the islands and deciding whether to suicide and respawn or shoot down the occasional plane with the AA emplacements.
---

Then BF2 where you would raise all sorts of hell with a good squad- move across the map and really work together with your teammates in a way that was astounding at the time. Plus 'secret missions' to board and attack the US Carriers in APCs or boats was always thrilling- occasionally got lucky and were able to land in the bay below the hanger and raid the ship as long as your squad leader was alive.

Always wished you could sink the ship, but to no avail... 2142 filled that gap though. Titan Mode in Battlefield 2142 was definitely the peak of the series so far for me. Bad Company 2 was like a refined Battlefield 2- but nothing ever really matched the amazing coordination possible in 2142 Titan mode- where an entire team, all 32 player could coordinate and execute a simultaneous all-out assault on the enemy Titan once all of their posts were taken.

32 people all gunning for the same objective, squads breaking up separately to take out the shield consoles and eventually all converging to blow up the Core. Then you all jumped off the Titan and parachuted to the ground- amazed at how the parachutes could decelerate you along with the weight of your MASSIVE BALLS

Way to needlessly insult someone!
OP: Bioshock. I don't play normally FPS's so that is the best (haven't played Borderlands yet) I've got.

Halo for me, if you've got the interest to find out all of the backstory that isn't included in the games it's a fantastically built universe. Sure the plots of individual games arn't the most origional out there, but for the most part they're well told and the mechanics are perfectly functional.

Way to only have mainstream titles as poll options...so biased.

OT: Unreal Tournament.

EDIT: Also GoW isn't an FPS, it's a 3rd Person Shooter.
If critics can ditch it in with the rest of the genre then we can do. Besides, the perspective is literally the only thing that sets it apart from the rest of the genre.

OT: Gears of War has always had a place in my heart, and although I love many of the options you gave gears will always be my favourite.

Word. I don't think this was shown more than in ODST. Sinking huge amounts of cash into a project that noone who wasn't already a fan would care about just to give that little extra insight into the normal soldiers. I'll miss you Halo :(

Be more pretentious, please.

The SHOOTING aspect of the game is awful. Less weapons than the first game, terrible enemy ai, terrible shooting sounds (remember the smg? pewpewpewpewpewpewpew) and insane repetitiveness. The entire mechanics feel stuck in 1994.

Puzzles are also the same physics stuff over and over again. Cool in 2004, gets old quick.

EDIT: I also said that BLOPS is unfortunately the best on that list. It is in no regard a great game.

EDIT 2: wow, OP sure changed his poll. It were like 5 halo games and 3 COD games to choose from when I posted first.

My favourite FPS of all time is Portal, but it's not as quite fast paced as other FPS, so that doesn't count entirely. If I had to choose a game, I'd go with Half-Life 2, because I find the story interesting and the gameplay is quite smooth. But I also have a soft spot for WWII shooters, such as Call of Duty (before MW) and Medal of Honor.

Never played a Halo game... well, I lie-I only played the first one but never finished, don't know why really, I think I just lost interest or some other game came up.

And to add to the discussion, I prefer FPS on PC rather than on consoles-It's just much more practical for me.
