Timesplitters is way more fun than any of those, also Gears of War isn't an FPS.

Thanks for the constructive criticism!

I do play some non-mainstream stuff from time to time, but usually at a friends house, but I do know there is TONS of great shooters out there, i'm just taking from what I own and played(ish).

MUST. PLAY. MORE. GAMES.
Welcome :)

Indeed, PLAY MOAR GAMEZ

Some suggestions, for the old school FPSer:

Goldeneye
Time Splitters
System Shock
Deus Ex
Unreal Tournament (or UT2004)
Wolfenstien or Duke Nukem (for ze lulz and to see how far we've come)
...

..

.

...I'm probably missing some other old gems, but that will do for now. Now, off into the world you go! Play them games!!

Poor choices, bro (and GeOW isn't an FPS) and you won't get any 'hurr durr' crap on this site
My all-times favourites are the Metroid Prime series, Bioshock, Fallout 3 (although that one's fairly cross-genre) and I was a big fan of the first Killzone back in the day. My favourite CoD was CoD2 but Modern Warfare was also great and my favourite Halo is Reach, it really is a 'best of' Halo game

EDIT: Totally forgot about Battlefield, embarrassing. BFBC2 is my favourite multiplayer game evaar
All of those games you listed are particularly awesome, but can Metroid Prime really be called a shooter? In its original Gamecube state, it was an action-adventure game that was in first person. It didn't even have a traditional shooting mechanic, which by the way made it vastly better than it would have been with a traditional dual-analog control scheme. I'm just wondering how it qualifies a shooter, because first person does not always equal shooter.
I agree, the lines are very much blurred with that series and I also am hesitant to call it an FPS. However, the series is really really awesome and so I thought I could get away with including it because it's a first-person game and you do fire projectiles. So yeah, any excuse to mention Metroid Prime
Also, whilst I'm here, EDIT: Totally forgot about Timesplitters 2. Ahh, the memories

Could not decide, ended up picking Battlefield but my 4 favorites are:
1. Team Fortress Series.
2. Half Life Series
3. Counter Strike
4. Battlefield

I love the Resistance series, the gameplay is heavily polished and I've always had a great fondness for Insomniac Games' games. I especially love how they have replay value with upgradeable and brand new weapons for a challenge mode playthrough. As for story, the first one was quite good, but the second was just really fun and a cool new direction. Looks like the 3rd is going in a new direction again which is exciting.

Halo's pretty good too, but then again I've read the books which adds a lot of depth to the games. But someone who hasn't read the books likely won't get as much out of the games and I assume that's why there's always arguments about whether or not the plot is any good.

Though I must say, Black on the PS2 would have been great if it became a series. God I loved that game. A few honourable mentions: Stranger's Wrath, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Bulletstorm, Crysis 2. They're all pretty damn good and feel very fresh.

Crysis games are at the moment my favourite, why?

I like the quality of the graphics and the Nanosuit abilities + I found it fun that the campaign took me longer than 4 hours where other shooters sometimes opt to have short campaign to compensate multiplayer though I'm not sure if that was intentional on Crysis part or if I'm just really bad at the games.

Seriously, too few choices, and why is gears of war up there?
what about Fear? borderlands? condemned? too many bro. just look at this thread http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.279440-Suggestions-of-good-SOLO-FPS
Well, the poll system used here on the Escapist only allows for 8 choices and even if that was not a issue, I could not POSSIBLY list EVERY SINGLE SHOOTER in the last 10 years. So there.

Also, that is why there is a "None of the Above" option.
That's why your poll will not reflect the true opinion of the people, so maybe change the question? and why GOW in a list of FPS games? I'm just trying to understand the goal of your poll :)

Call of Duty 2 is my favorite FPS ever, and the only game in the Call of Duty series I like. It had a perfectly paced campaign (although the last level did feel a bit anti-climactic), didn't overload on set pieces, and had multiplayer that lacked any balancing issues.

Hey there Escapist.

Here is the MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION EVER!!!

What is your Favorite FPS Series?

Favorite meaning in terms of gameplay, setting, story, characters etc.

I don't want any "HURR DURR, CALL OF DOUTY IS BETTUR THUN HALOZ AND GEARZ OF WOAR!!" crap.

So, tell me.

(BTW, I have played Call of Duty, Halo, TF2, Borderlands and a little bit of Gears.)

(EDIT: It is now by series, not title, to allow many different choices.)
gears is not a FPS also mine would be..... crysis one it lets me play how i want to

None of the above. The Timesplitter games have provided me with way more fun than any other FPS series.

Series wise for me it has to be Halo, I would have gone for Gears of War but it's a third person not first.

Way to only have mainstream titles as poll options...so biased.

OT: Unreal Tournament.

EDIT: Also GoW isn't an FPS, it's a 3rd Person Shooter.
beaten to UT :p by far the best FPS imo

btw: what titles were? I only got the series listing
