I only rented it and I enjoyed it a little. It was the first game I rented so I barely remember it but I do remember the combat sucked and for a game with "Assassin" in the title, you really didn't get to assassinate much. The main part I liked about it was the climbing.

AssCreed 2 is extremely fun on the condition you ignore the story and have plenty of time+bored
Why ignore the story? Ubisoft have done a fair bit of research and put alot of effort into a birlliant storyline that really hits home.
x kills y. Z vows to slaughter until vendetta is paid off.
Yeah, you've completely left all the ending parts out about the pieces of Eden scattered around the world and what Abstergo plans to do with them (not to mention the great miracles of the bible merely being illusions), but whatever gives you the false sense that you've come up with an intelligent and credible rebuttal. Congratulations on missing out 60% of the true underlying plot of the game.
Though maybe I'm being harsh and you simple just didn't manage to collect the two unlock code pens throughout the game, don't really care. You're just being ignorant.
thank you, seriously, it was hard. i didnt think i could do it. but, i did. ive really done something great today aye?

In any case, i couldn't give a crap about this "Desmond" guy. 90% im playing as Ezio, so why should i even care about Desmond's story?
You should care, otherwise why the hell are you playing the series? If you have no interest in the underlying story, then you probably shouldn't buy III when it comes out. The ending for two... that to me hints the third one could be set more in the future (i'm personally hoping for Feudal Japan, but we'll see)..

Because it's the framing device. Notice, Altair is gone after the first game, Ezio is (presumably) only in the second, but who will be in the whole series?
Also doesnt matter. you forget who the common dipshit is. When the Chunk of the series comes in and word gets out that "THIS IS THE GAME WITH THE ACTION AND PLOT!" and itll be proclaimed lord of all consoles, those that havent played prior games wont get it and complain. Those have played prior games will either get AssCreed X and praise it like the Space Marines to the Emperor, or they wont bother with AssCreed X and just assume the ending of the story.

Either way, the stories boned. They wont understand it Or they wont be looked at seriously- itll be forgiven for all its flaws without concern OR itll be made up.
So let me see if I understand your logic. Because people who join the series late won't understand the story, that makes the story bad?
no. makes the people bad - but the story irrelevant.
That's why the guy arguing above me about the story is a complete moron -.-
But i'm following the story, and unlocking all the truths and so on and so forth, so I will understand the story.

You say it like "Assassin's cread sucked" is a provable fact. Can anyone "Notice" an opinion? Really?
Admitidaly, I'm getting sort of phylosophical here, but really, thing about it - Your whole question hinges on the "Fact" that Assassin's Cread Sucked - But it isn't a fact! The question is illogical!
(No offence intended. Just pointing out the truth.)

Wasn't the common consensus pretty much that the premise was good, the engine was solid, controls and gameplay were great, but the story was questionable, and the actual missions were hideously repetitive?

The developers themselves said that they had made the quests/missions more interesting in AC2..

Basicly, no you're not the only sane person left in the world. You're pretty much a part of the majority.

I didn't like either of them. Don't know why, they seem like good games but I just can't get into them.

I bought the collector's edition. I have 15 achievement points in it. I no longer own the collector's edition. What does that tell you?

I stopped playing assasins creed when I comited my 7th assasination because I couldn't stand the grindy missions any longer (coming from a former wow player go figure). But I saw alot of room for potential so I might rent AC2 and see if they improved on it.

The platforming aspect of it wasn't that great (specifically, it was waaay too "loose"), but then again, I only played past the first missions or so at a friend's house once. That's my entire exposure to the game.
