EDIT: Erana, where did you read that? I've never heard about that? How does it cause increased health risk?
The veins under your tongue go pretty much directly to the heart- get an infection there, and if it travels in the blood, you can have some nasty heart problems. I made the mistake of inquiring about an anti-tongue piercing/splitting poster in my school's clinic, just for curiosity, and got an earful...
Actually now you mention it yes that's true - angina sufferers are given an under-the-tongue spray for heart trouble aren't they? That's worth taking into account.
I always though angina was some sort of nasty cough because all the old people I know who have it used to administer stuff into there throat and then proclaim "sorry about that, I have angina"

Its an easy mistake to make if you haven't got old folks close to you who have angina, so what is angina?. I could google it but I prefer to try to create a discussion first.

Say goodbye to s.

Or as you'll say it, "khay goodbye to yekhh."

I mean it's your tongue and all so if you want to paint it blue and call it Sally, that's your choice. But think long term. Think about how hard a time some elderly have with not drooling, then multiply that by split tongue.
We've already discussed this point, in order to give Firia the Op some breathing space I'm telling you this, splitting the tongue doesn't create speech problems.

A tongue bar will affect speech because of how the air travels around the tongue is changed at a further point in the mouth, split tongue is the tip and the part of the mouth that doesn't create anything apart from tone but your tongue has no say in the tone of sound.

Sounds kinda gross.
I dont really wanna watch it either.
But I have no particular arguement to say 'don't do it', so if you want to do it, then go for it.

That is incredibly stupid and you'll regret it in years to come. Seriously, don't do it.
I think people who have no interest in things like this usually are the ones to say "you will regret it" I have piercings, and tattoos, many of which I have had for 10 years, I don't regret them. Well except the ones that I had to let close up when I joined the military, cause that was a waste of money and I just had to get them done again when I got out.

That said, tattoo's I understand, piercings I understand as well, but the tongue being split. That was just starting to be the ultimate body modification fad right after I graduated high school. Never found an interest in it and thought those that did it looked pretty silly.

By the same logic, I'd say don't go for it.

But that's me and you're you. However, I'd give it some research and at least a year. So I guess I'm like just about everyone else in this discussion. Personally I can't see any benefit later on in life, but I don't think there will be as much as a detriment as people hint at. Of course just living for the future screws the present so do whatever, just put thought in it.

I don't say it because I have no interest in it, because if I could (bleeding disorder says no), I would.

I say it because I've talked to people and heard a lot say they regret some tattoos and piercings that they've had.

But, done right, a lot of tattos & piercings look great. Tongue spliting, however, that's just weird.

I'll detach from what I personally think and just say it's bad economics.

You pay to get it done(hopefully, do it yourselfs are not fun) and suffer from the many disadvantages of looking weird. It might compromise future job opportunities, relationships, and the like.

But I'm not you and getting a split-tongue may make you the happiest SOB that decided to take a knife to his tongue.

Just expect some draw backs, because it definitely isn't a win-win situation.

My sentiments exactly. But I know some people feel the same way about tattoo's, which is why i think there must be people out there who think there is nothing wrong with the splitting and will never regret it.

While I was getting my arm tattooed there was a lady who was usually in the same room with me who was getting a dragon from her chest, over her shoulder, down her back, across one ass cheek, and finally wrapped around her leg, ending on her calf. It was an incredible tattoo. The dragon was an Asian style dragon.

Ignore what everyones saying about regretting it, if you want it then go get it done. S'what im doing with tattoos, but I know I'm not gonna regret them because when im like 60, i can look at them and be reminded of those times in my life, what I was like, the people I knew etc.

Who cares if people think you look stupid or anything, if you're passionate about doing something why should what people think of you make any difference? I already get some 'odd' looks from people because I have snakebites, and my smiley (bit of web inside your top lip) but fuck 'em, you only live once and it's better to live life to the fullest, than waiting 'till you're old and wrinkly thinking 'oh I wish I would've dont this and that'.

People are gonna say you're 'following the trend' but so what.. I know I didn't get my snakebites because i wanted to 'fit in', i did it because i wanted to, and at the end of the day thats all that really matters.

If you honestly find it aesthetically pleasing and are willing to put up with the prejudice it's going to get you, go for it. But make sure to be really sure.
However, since you felt the need to ask a forum of strangers whether you should do it, you probably shouldn't.
Personally, I think split tongues look awesome.

You know what split tongues tell people? "I will never have a job that pays the bills"

Personally, I would choose not to have that procedure done.

Ever.

Although it may look cool, there are so many things that could go wrong, and overall it just seems a bad idea.

I personally wouldn't do it but it's your body not mine. If you do get it done make sure that the establishment you go to is sterile and that the person who does it is a professional. I know that what I'm saying is just common sense but, an infection in the mouth can be fatal. Just remember that.

its your choice. i have read of these splits myself. your tongue will grow back together after a few years i think it is. if you really want it, do it :). it will be normal when you get older, so you should not be afraid of it.

personally, i wouldnt do it, but i think its pretty cool.

Do it, why not? It means the chances of procreation and adding your genes to the humanity's pool will get lower, a lot.
