EDIT: Erana, where did you read that? I've never heard about that? How does it cause increased health risk?
The veins under your tongue go pretty much directly to the heart- get an infection there, and if it travels in the blood, you can have some nasty heart problems. I made the mistake of inquiring about an anti-tongue piercing/splitting poster in my school's clinic, just for curiosity, and got an earful...
Actually now you mention it yes that's true - angina sufferers are given an under-the-tongue spray for heart trouble aren't they? That's worth taking into account.
I always though angina was some sort of nasty cough because all the old people I know who have it used to administer stuff into there throat and then proclaim "sorry about that, I have angina"

Its an easy mistake to make if you haven't got old folks close to you who have angina, so what is angina?. I could google it but I prefer to try to create a discussion first.
Angina is a heart condition that I think is a result of the arteries to and from your heart being blocked, it can cause heart attacks.

Do it, and then when your 60 or 50, you're gonna really regret it. Same with tattoos. Don't get something that looks batshit retarded, and something you'll hate when your older...that's why I'm getting the Combine and Lambada symbols as tattoos :D And the chains on my wrist from BioShock. It rocks to have a dad with a girlfriend who has a son that is a tattoo artist... xD
Hell no, I disagree, with tattoo's you have to to realise that any tattoo you have will be out of fashion in 5 to 10 years time, anyone who gets a tattoo done believing it will look good in 5 years time are deluding themselves.

Actually having the Lambda symbol would rock, its a greek letter first, scientific calculation second and game logo last.

Thanks, I've asked in the real world and people have gone "you don't know?", well no I don't know, hence I ask.

I remember my friend telling me her mum had "acute angina" to which I replied "her tits are pretty good for her age too".
She wasn't pleased, I blame it on me not knowing what the hell she was talking about.

You will NEVER get a girlfriend, unless she's the type that would want a split tongue too. In which case you're set.

But seriously, it doesn't look good, you'll get weird looks all the time, heaps of abuse too. You work in a bank? Not sure your employers would approve mate. It's permanent too, you can't get a tongue reattatched, so think carefully. If you're really willing to deal with that for the rest of your life, then your choice has already been made.

Firstly, if you think people get tattoos because they are 'in fashion'.. You're wrong. Yeah some people may have them for that reason, but the majority are having them because they want it, not because its the 'fashionable' thing to do...
Secondly, the ageing of tattoos really depends on a number of things, such as the climate you live in & how good the artist is. And when it does fade, you can just get it touched up anyway.

Well in all honesty I guess it'd be quite interesting to kiss someone with a split tongue, but never ever would I do that, for the same reason that I wouldn't get a tatoo (as has been explained about a bajillion times in these couple of pages).

I'm never wrong! haha!, lol, no seriously you make a valid point but tattoo's are a modular fashion item that you cannot remove.

My words were built on what I have been told by people with many tattoo's, a tattoo you get today is something you must come to terms with NOW that while it looks good and your happy with it TODAY you will not like it in 10 years time.

I agree with those sentiments.

Yes you can touch it up, yes you can try to make it look good, but the novelty will wear off and if you say that you can personilise a tattoo makes it good, no it doesn't it only makes it good if you in on the backstory.

You can tell a stranger the reason why you have a tattoo and they will go "oh wow, thats a cool story", but they wont go and tell anyone because its pointless in telling a story through someone else's tattoo.

give up on all relationships now. You could do that but a less painful way to give up on children is join the Nuns.

After about 5 years your going to relise that things like this and a ton of tattoos are going to really affect the rest of your life. e.x getting a job. Yea its cool to be a rebel without a cause now but this is serious shit. You have to be prepared to live the rest of your life marked.

It's your body, you're free to do whatever you want to it.

I'd think it through thoroughly though.

That's weird, disgusting, and amazing all at the same time. Kissing someone with a tongue like that would be insane. The good kind of insane, tho'. It's pretty dangerous, though - I'm not sure what effect it'd have on your speech, but the health risks are numerous. That's fairly heavy surgery on your tongue, which is one of the worst possible places to get an infection. It'd also hurt like hell while you're recovering, and it will not be fun to eat for a long time after the operation. It might be interesting to have, but I'd honestly try to dissuade you from actually doing it.

Sit on it for at least a year. A full year. Not 9 months. Not 10. At least a year. Its what I do before I go and get tattoos done. If you've thought about it for a truly long time and have literally no second thoughts about it, then do it.

A big problem I see in the immediate future is talking. The procedure is going to hinder your vocal abilities for a while. If you work with people as your job (i.e. your job involves talking as a major aspect) your tongue will either be swollen or bruised. In addition, you have to almost relearn how to say certain sounds simply because of how your tongue is formed. After all that is over, though, you're in the clear.

I wouldn't do it myself, but if its something you want and have thought about for a long time, then I guess its your choice.

This sounds like something you will really regret in 20 years time.
Truly. Unless you're in your mid 20s or older, and you've settled into a career that you like, I would avoid it.

I know people who regret the most conservative of tattoos they've got. I can't imagine how a split tongue might look 20 years down the road.
Indeed. My cousin, for example, had a very difficult time adopting a child because her husband -- a very lovely person -- was covered in tattoos. People are judgemental and if you don't fit their vision of "normal," you are going to have problems.

Tattoos you can at least get removed. Not perfectly, but somewhat. This seems far too risky for what will, in all likelihood, end up being a lark of youth.

In the end, it's up to you, but weigh the potential pros -- which seem to boil down to "it's nifty" -- against the potential cons, which are legion.
