Its not something I find terribly interesting, all in all I have to agree with most people saying "its stupid" I understand that once someone gets the idea in their head to get a tattoo or get a piercing in weird places, or split their tongues its hard to change their minds. Like a relative of mine who got a tattoo, and is now hiding it from the grandparents, or another one who is self conscious about her tattoo all the time. Im sure it will feel cool for a while, like all novelty's do, similar to how your teeth feel after getting braces off etc. Too bad itll make it difficult to do anything where you have to talk to people, unless you can hide it somehow...hahaha the doctors going to get a surprise when he tells you to stick out your tongue

anyways I cant really say dont do it, because we are all free people, and made up by our differences in opinion etc etc, so power to you I guess, for making a different choice. Though most people seem to say dont do it because of social rejection from the masses who wont "get it" and I agree with that sentiment, thats really the only reason not to. So good luck hiding your tongue in job interviews heh.

also you may expect responses like this, but its mostly because people have a point, you cant expect everyone to say "HELL YEAH!!! your amazingly uber awesome for doing this!" I mean yeah its cool to a degree, but the trouble is most people know the issue behind permanent things, having second hand or first hand experiences. I mean you can sew it back up or whatever, but I don't think it will be quite the same. And the whole "the public will look poorly upon you" isnt just a made up lie either, people are quick to judge by appearance and once they see a tongue like that (if they do) then thats already a few points off.

The veins under your tongue go pretty much directly to the heart- get an infection there, and if it travels in the blood, you can have some nasty heart problems. I made the mistake of inquiring about an anti-tongue piercing/splitting poster in my school's clinic, just for curiosity, and got an earful...

Well, there are a lot of people that will be disgusted by it, you will potentially regret it in the future, it will make you look rather immature as you get older, and it serves no other purpose than to show off to your friends and express to the world "I'm the kind of person who thought this was a good idea".

But it looks like you created this thread more to see the reactions than actually help you decide whether or not to do it, so by all means, do it anyway. I just don't think the pain, regret, health risks, and social and professional disadvantages are worth having a vaguely interesting novelty tongue. But if you really need to express how extreme you are, there's nothing stopping you.

Actually now you mention it yes that's true - angina sufferers are given an under-the-tongue spray for heart trouble aren't they? That's worth taking into account.

A friend of mine had this done.
He totally regrets it. He says his tongue is suuuuuuper sensitive now.
And it looks gross. People are meant to have one tongue that is stuck together.

I want to get my tongue split.

Some would say that's really stupid, many might say gross. The idea is just so keen with me, that I can't help but return to it every once in a while. There's a handful of videos on youtube of people getting their tongue pierced, and testomonials seem to be positive from people that have had it done, and live with it.

My only concerns are if it ever comes up in the work place (I work at a bank), social repercussions (I'd pretty strange enough as is), and of course something going horribly wrong (this one almost doesn't register on my 'list' however).

It's on my mind alot lately, and I feel the need to talk about it. So, I've built a little poll. Also, I've put in some youtube videos. Now, be warned!! Tongue splitting is not for the feint of heart. I have two videos here, one is generally ok to look at. The other shows the process and might not settle well with everyone.
