Poll: If someone walked into your room, could they tell that you are a gamer?

Disclaimer: I define gamer as someone who has an appreciation for a variety of video games, and consider them as a defining part of their identity. Its an iffy term and I know how people feel about the word, but I can't figure out a substitute and would rather not get into the semantics

I want to know if people have a physical way to show for their hours played, or if they keep their rooms unassuming. Even if there's a console or a headset in your room, its not like someone can deduce that you are into more than CoD, LoL or some other all-consuming mainstream acronym. How could someone tell, just by walking into your room, that you think about video games more than the average person? Can they?

Because personally, unless you turned my computer on and looked at my Steam stuff, I don't think people could tell. My room looks like I have a lot of uni work and not much else on my mind. My bookshelf just has a lot of biographies and military history books since I buy my games off Steam; I don't even know where my old boxes are anymore. My consoles, from N64 to 360, are gathering dust at the bottom of my wardrobe. My point is, you would need to do a bit of looking around to figure out I spent most of last week playing Crusader Kings 2. Does this sound similar to anyone else?

I have a 360 and a PS3 on the shelf under my TV. I have four 360 controllers lying around, as well as a two PS3 controllers with a charger next to my TV. I have a 360 headset and a pair of Turtle Beaches on the shelf under the consoles. I have a Kinect sitting right in front of the TV. I also have my games in the DVD case, which sits right next to my TV. I have multiple copies of Game Informer and Gamer in my bathroom. I have a "Rock Band" drum set in front of the DVD case.

So as long as they are not blind, I believe they will be able to put 2 and 2 together.

Seeing as the first thing you see when you walk into my room is a TV, 360 and computer on my desk, I'd have to say probably.

Either that or they'll think I'm some sort of criminal mastermind.

They could tell. There's a PS2 and a Wii hooked up to the TV, there's various types of game controller -- from gamepads to flight sticks -- around the room, and the bookshelf directly opposite the door has two shelves dedicated just to videogames, including a sizable collection of PC games. This isn't counting the CD books full of games, or the games in my closet.

My room doesn't actually contain my consoles etc. I really only have my sound system, guitars (and amplifiers) and my laptop in my room (other than essentials)

Seeing how I tape my DS cases to my wall as a decoration I'd say yes. Also the tiny entertainment center overflowing with consoles and games might also be a clue.

Well it is a maybe for me because my room doesn't really have any of my gaming things but it is full of posters of animes, comics and paintings to the point of being no more room as well as a cabnet full of manga, anime, movies, graphic novels, tv shows. Then there is 3 computers in my room with my tablet and all my back up drives and such but that is cause I am a multimedia designer and artist. So I have 2 desks one for my desktop and the other being a art desk.

Well judging by all the gaming posters, collector statues of game characters and all the games I have...I think it would be quite easy to tell that I am a gamer. If not that they would have to notice all the anime stuff I got.

My room is like this.

85% Gaming stuff.
10% Anime stuff.
5% Other stuff. (Books, movies and such)

So I am sure they would know if they walked into my room...unless they don't know or use the term 'gamer'.

Even if my 360 and my ENTIRE GAME COLLECTION wasn't currently in there, I still have ALOT to give it away.
I have four Halo posters, a Bioshock 2 poster, an Xbox sticker on my door, the helmet that came with Halo 3, the statue that came with Halo Reach, the harlequin jack-in-the-box that came with Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, The Octus medal that came with Gears Of War 3, a Phazon-suit Samus statue, The Lancer from Gears of War, the Plasma Cutter that came with Dead Space, a copy of the Halo graphic novel, a copy of Bioshock: Rapture, two art & design books for Gears Of War and Assassin's Creed, and two strategy guides for Halo 2 and Halo 3.
I would have counted the Marcus Fenix statue from Gears Of War 3 in there, but that's in the living room.
Wow, all this stuff, my life is GOOD.

Judging by the stack of PC games taller than me I'd say yeah, that and my big computer might inform them that I'm a gamer. As would the xbox 360, xbox, and PS2 under the TV.

My room is empty and completely devoid of any decoration, the only things it has are my bed and my closet, so if anything can accurately guess anything about me out of that room other than I'm very neat, I'd be impressed, and my consoles and games are in currently in boxes and considering that I don't like putting posters [small](Though I still have a lot of them, I just keep them inside a shelf.)[/small], so really I'd be impressed if someone can guess much about me from looking at my entire apartment.

If the 360 on my desk wasn't a clear givaway, the shelves full of games under my tv and the occasional case strewn across the floor should be. Not to mention the posters and other various game-related detritus.

You'd also be able to tell that I enjoy reading and have terrible taste in bed covers.

Again, it depends. If it was my elderly grandmother, probably not, given how she views video games. I can't change her mind, so I might as well not cause her distress.

If it's a friend or a work colleague, I won't tell them, but I'd certainly make no effort to hide it. If they don't want to talk about video games, then that's fine. If they bring up the subject, I'll chip in my 2 cents, and see how they react. If they're fans of video games, then I'll talk about it all day long, but if they're not, then I'll let the subject slide. I'm not going to talk video games at someone who doesn't want to play them - that's boring for me and them.

Besides, if they walked into my room right now, the only thing they'd find (that was video game related) would be a wired Xbox controller (hey, Bastion just doesn't control well on a Keyboard, okay? Neither do racing games). Actually, I have a stack of PS3 and 360 games next to my book shelf, but that's about it. Both consoles are near the TVs. They'd know I play video games, but they wouldn't think I was some sort of video game fanatic (and I'm not - I read more than I play video games).

Not likely. The only thing gaming related in my bedroom is my DS and a few plush Pokemon. But my room is practically exploding in plushies, so the Pokemon would likely go unnoticed. Especially considering the far more noticeable and unusual aspects of my room.

There is no way to do it if a person walks in without any external appearance alluding to video games. However, if they walk in with a Mario t-shirt, this would be a dead giveaway.
