If you already have a gaming PC you'll either be fine going into next-gen or an upgrade would be cheaper than one of the consoles. Unless you're one o' dem guys still rocking hardware from 2006/7, that is.
Hey! I resemble that remark! Also, I just got my hands on an Athlon 64 X2 6000+! Livin' the dream, baby!
...stop laughing.

...and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to slap together something equivalent to the Xbone for $500 as soon as AMD's next APU generation pops up... depending on the price point of Kaveri APUs and FM2+ boards (also depending on the price point of GDDR5 chips at that time).

Now that AMD is finally done developing APUs for both of the new consoles, expect to see a lot of development very quickly in the PC market (finally). Maybe they'll actually start to make up some ground on Intel's architecture advantage and beat midrange CORE series CPUs. Either way, I expect to see $500 builds beating the Xbone (if not the PS4)'s hardware before it has a price drop.

What was this thread about again?
Oh yeah.
Buy a piece of hardware developed by Microsoft? No. This is just a return to form for 'em. A crappy gaming PC for too much money running a crappy mobile OS... just like the first Xbox... one.

Not as long as the kinect is required, I refuse to spend an extra $100 for that thing.

I would probably get it after a while. Criteria: alot more games, and a price drop. The whole Kinnect thing still really turns me off though...

If the following things would occur

If I knew someone that could disable the kinnect, wait for awhile for it to go down in price and it has some great games I want (which won't happen). Oh yeah, And the biggest of them all, that Microsoft actually pulled their heads from their ass and stop with all these restrictions and never make another Windows 8.

Nope!

Even without DRM it would still have that weird used games/cloud trade-in BS and also be a hundred bucks more expensive.

But I wasn't gonna buy one anyway.

If they fixed all my issues with the system besides the pricing and Kinect having... Then yeah, probably sometime down the line. Unlike many people here it seems, I actually seem to like what few exclusives franchises MS has, and some of the new exclusives for it like D4, Project Spark, Dead Rising 3, and possibly Quantum Break look like stuff I would really enjoy. Just, you know, if the horrible DRM issues where removed.

Wouldn't get it at launch though, as PS4 is still cheaper and more powerful. :p

No DRM? And backwards compatible (or is that a new thread?) Yes, only because today i saw the trailer for Dead rising 3. But at this point, i'm just really sad that i wont be buying one and i'll miss out on DR3... And whatever that other zombie one by Deep Silver is called i saw screen shots for last week.

Well, apart from the fact that they will probably never do this, I'm still not that interested. If there were enough exklucisves, then I might consider buying one used (if thats possible at all :D ). But that isn't going to happen until a few years into the nexte generation. The price and always Kinnect are to big turn-offs.

I'll admit that the DRM was the largest bone of contention for me. If I'm not allowed to pay for the games that I owned because I paid full price for them and I have to sign in all the time like a crook on probation - then I will take my custom elsewhere.

Second dealbreaker for me is that Kinect thing, living in Britain means being videoed all the time - and inviting a camera that records me for the most sinister of marketing reasons is just crazy. Even if the data was kept secure, I still would like my privacy which I am quite entitled to.

Finally, lower the asking price. Getting rid of the Kinect and the DRM should make the new console less expensive in any case. So this should be easy-ish for Microsoft to do.

I don't think I'm asking the earth for a nice simple games console and not to be treated like a crook on probation. The only company that seems to be doing this is Sony. (And maybe Nintendo, but I've never really thought much of their games.)

Why get an XBone when I have a PC that can still play the same non-exclusive games at similar or better performance in a control format I'm comfortable with and prefer?

I haven't gotten a 360 and haven't touched my PS3 in months.

[sub]Not arrogant, just superior.[/sub]
I'd like to know the black rights necessary to summon a PC for $500 that can push the kind of graphical fidelity of an Xbone.
I'd like to know that too.

It has the bundled and mandated Kinect too, and would still require internet verification every 24 hours... So nope. Not even close. Even if it got rid of both those things and essentially became an alternate PS4, just for $100 more and with a different lineup of exclusives, I still wouldn't get it. Simply because it's $100 more, doesn't offer any additional functionality that I care about, and I don't have the money to purchase two consoles, not when their exclusives are all going to end up being very similar anyway

ITT: Everyone tries to act like they're tired of Halo.

But trust me, when some juicy details start to actually come out later on, a lot of people will be salivating. I know I will... sadly...

No mandated online connection? Maybe, so along as they also removing the fucking Kinect. I never wanted that piece of crap to be invented in the first place. I certainly don't want it as an automatic part of a console.

If those two things were gone? Yeah I might very well. I DO prefer the X box style controller.

not immediately - It was a few years before bought the 360 - but yes, it would make the console far more interesting to me.

The simple fact is I don't have a lot of money to spend on games, so I generally have to wait till birthdays, Christmas, sales, bargain bins and used games.

Not until it had a handful of interesting games on it.

I haven't been following the news all that closely, but none of the exclusives announced thus far have really piqued my interest.

More Halo. Whoop-de-doo.
This. Even without the "problems" I'd still be giving this console at least 6 months until I consider a purchase. I'd be looking to see if their library of games has grown and if any of those games interested me. I'd also want to wait until any bugs are fairly ironed out. As it stands, though, I'm keeping my distance from this console.

No. I don't buy consoles. It's not that I look down on those that do, or think that the PC is inherently better, it's just that I find consoles to be damn expensive compared to what I can get for a decent PC at the same price. Not to mention that my favorite game-types are RTS, RTT (Total War, etc), 4X (Civilization, etc) and RPG. Out of all those, only RPG comes out as console exclusives, and that's rarely.
Only time I'm tempted to buy a console is when they release a decent fighter-game, like the new Mortal Kombat, or when they very rarely have an RTT/RPG-exclusive, like Disgea.
For me, consoles are all about shooters nowdays, and I really don't care for shooters (and I can get them for my PC should I care).
Haven't owned a console since two generations ago, when the first Xbox really felt like it had something to offer.

Meeh their attitude, pricetag and mandatory Kinect are also reasons I won't be getting one. Even the Halo series won't make me buy one, since imo it ended with 4.
