This has less to do with crying/not crying and more to do with this attitude you mentioned which seems based around not showing any emotional vulnerability. That's a load of crap and such a philosophy will absolutely cause negative health problems down the road, such as higher blood pressure, high stress levels and stomach-related illnesses.
Sorry, didn't see the reply 'till now. I actually have really low blood pressure :0 (I get really dizzy every time I give blood xD)

But I get what you mean, I just have a problem with showing any weakness in front of people =P Maybe that'll change when I get more mature. ^-^

Only when heavy loss or death is involved. Heavy loss as in a loss of wife or long term significant other. But all the bloody time, its pretty weak to me.

Oh, and the odd sad movie, a single tear drop falls even from my eye (don't consider that crying though).

If you tell people not to cry, all you get is a bunch of pissed off japanese dudes saying that they aren't crying.
OT: if you want to cry, cry. If you feel like you need to cry but hold it in instead, you are only keeping your feelings from others. If crying makes you a wimp (I don't think it does) holding it in is just as wimpy (is that a word?).

I don't cry, I bottle it up and punch a wall when I'm frustrated. Hurt my hand. Done.
That's a variation on SI, aka Self Injury. SNIP *concerned face*
Yep, I fully realise that, i've been doing it for about 2 years now. I'm not sure what brought it about, but like you say it works in the short term, but I dot serious issues. SNIP but I'm suffering from anxiety and insomnia currently....but hey, HAPPY FAMILIES! :)
Welcome to the club. We've saved you a seat :S I asked the question originally coz somehow I managed to get it into my head that emotions suck and don't have them (Major depression and lots of sucky emotions probably didn't help here). And yes, there is a biological component. Figuring out that you might need a few extra coping strategies than those freaks who are "normal" gives you a leg up to go get the help to find them and overcome it.

My family puts the "FUN" is "DysFUNctional"....

Oh, and did I mention (despite the obvious avatar pic) I'm a girl? Apparently we get special exemptions, only someone forgot to pass the memo to me :S

Extreme pain is a perfectly acceptable situation to cry in. As long as theres a reason.
"Oh god you chopped my arm off! I'll never be able to eat Chinese food again!" for example.
Agreed, but to quote Monty Python "IT'S ONLY A FLESH WOUND!!" Lol.

To me truly weak people are those who never have the confidence to be vulnerable. To not cry over the loss of a loved one that meant so much to someone out of feeling of being tough is not a sign of strength, but of cowardice.
Sign me up for the Cowardice Club. When/where is the next meeting?

Logically I know being vulnerable is better. It actually makes you more open to people, makes people more likely to want to befriend you (rather than the IRL Avatar you display), and that crying when you need to is healthy. Except... Emotionally I'd rather curl up into a little ball, hide, and punch any and all "weak" feelings into submission.

I'm sorry but if you think crying is weak it is not ok to cry if your sport team has lost the finals of whatever,
Here in my state we take our footy very seriously. Your team is an extension of yourself, therefore their loss is your loss. They cry, you cry, you're all crying together. I could live with a man who cried over his team losing the Grand Final. Just not crying over a normal game :S

I dont cry...I understand or at least try to when people say crying doesnt equate to weakness but in my own mind it does. I suppose it's the way i was raised, the amount of death i was exposed to or the fights ive been in.
But i just dont cry. Even in physical pain - their might be tearing but thats about it.
I just see crying as accepting that the pain and weakness has won and beaten you, and im titled emotionless, and heartless, i prefer to think of it as superior :p haha

but thats my 2 cents anyway

In my opinion, crying is manly. Imagine a samurai, standing with a manly, stern expression on his face, and letting one solitary tear run down his face as he mourns the death of his lover. It doesn't get any manlier than that.

Well, if you cry in front of other people it generally shows 'weakness', but everyone needs to cry every now and again. I have a problem for myself right now because I constantly feel like I need to cry but I never can. Tears tend to just flow out at completely random times, like when I'm trying to sleep or when I'm just walking. It's quite annoying.
You are depressed maybe and need some good rest to sort out your ideas?

I usually cry when I am alone, thinking about sad things. It feels good afterwards.
Naw, I'm not depressed; not any more so than usual anyway. I likely need some nice sleep. I've got me DSPS so I can never get to sleep at a decent hour, but since I have to wake up at 6am every morning for school I don't tend to get much sleep. I think I got about 2 hours of sleep last night, actually.

I've actually taken a picture of myself and was surprised at how my eyes looked; the dark circles under my eyes were so purple it almost looked like I had a black eye and right around my eyes was this weird outline that just kind of creeped me out; I'm probably lucky my glasses cover this up.

Can't wait till school finally ends so I can return to my 'normal' sleep schedule and actually get some sleep.
