hmmm... lessee...

Imperial Guard. They fight The Horde (among other foes). They have ultra powerful weaponry and actually have a chance of defeating their foes, despite the enemy having the greater numbers.

Starship Troopers. The fight a bunch of over-sized bugs. They have meague weapons andusually get their asses kicked DUE to the enemy's greater numbers.

Yea, I'd rather back the Imperial Guard thanks...

MI. Surviving term of service means eligability for top federal jobs. IG means you just get to do it again tomorrow.

It depends; if we're talking about the Mobile Infantry from the film versus the Imperial Guard, I'd join the Imperial Guard. Contrary to popular belief, they actually have pretty good tanks and Air Vehicles.

However, if it was the Mobile Infantry from thebook, I'd definitely join them, because I'd be hopping across a battlefield in a huge exo-skeleton dropping bombs on stuff.

For the god-Emperor of the Imperium and all of that nonsense.

Having seen the movie, MI has nothing on the guard. IG more than makes up for an excessive use of laser pointers, with an excessive use of overcompensatory vehicles.

(I see your Baneblade, and raise you a Hammerhead with a Railgun. Also I see your Commisar, and raise you one sniper drone. Tau'va )

Post scriptum.
I resent being referred to as blue space hippies...we are a theocratic communal aristocracy
Yeah, you can't be called hippies. Not with all that shifty shit going on, like (possibly) mind controling the weird drone-wasp thingummies.

I see your Hammerhead and raise you a Shadowsword.
I see your sniper drone and raise you Guardsman Marbo

Guess which side I'm voting for?

Depends on if I get to drive a Baneblade or not really. If I do, then IG for the win.

However, I am not going anywhere near a shokk attack gun. Screw. That.

Depends.

Which is cooler? The Imperial Guard. Simply because they exist in the WH40K universe.

Which would I rather join? The Starship Troopers, because I'd actually have a chance to survive. When the shit hits the fan, billions of Imperial Guard can and will be sacrificed to ensure victory.
This, except for that second point. The poster is forgetting that the starship troopers (MI) were thrown onto a planet in a plan involving "We're cooler than them so obviously intelligence isn't needed".

IG has merit though, you could conceivably join, become really good as a sniper or some such and get promoted to the Inquisition. I use "promoted" in the loosest sense possible there of course.

EDIT:

You could join the Tau, they're not the most advanced race in the 40K 'verse, but they're the only race that's actually moving forwards instead of sliding into darkness. Hell, Chaos is still using swords they had when they fought with Horus. Tau you could also have a chance to use a stealthsuit.

I believe this answers the question:

Playing Dawn of War: Retribution, I thought that quote was the coolest thing.

Until my Guardsman said, upon a Flame Thrower Upgrade, 'It's dangerous to go alone, take this.'

And then I fell in love with the IG all over again.

I voted for the Imperial Guard just because I would hate to sign up with the movie version of the Mobile Infantry.

And looks like i will be playing Retribution until i hear that quote.
Oddly enough, I can't find it on youtube.

Strange.

It shouldn't take long anyway. Just open up campaign and keep upgrading standard infantry with weapons (Flame throwers seem to inspire the quote more often).

Seems to be alot of love for Imperial Guard and I can't tell if it's an underdog thing or people identifying alot better with those cowardly piss ants.

Well if I wanted an effective army then Starship Troopers is my pick.
I raise you a baneblade.

/discussion,
I raise you a MI Power Armor Suit.

Jetpack + Tactical Nuclear Weaponry vs. what? some lascannons, a BFG and some machine guns?
