I said other, cuz either the rage virus from 28 days later or even one of the ones like Ebola that causes you to sweat blood, and vomit and convulse so yes an all around fun time.

Man, that's a tough one.
I mean on one hand, the Blacklight virus from Prototype demonstrated time and time again that it is not to be fucked with. Turning people into zombies, making giant monsters, creating huge sentient tentacles and consuming and devouring everything it touches. Scary stuff really.

But then again, the FEV virus is responsible for the Death Claw. And anything that creates Death Claws has got to be made by Lucifer himself to turn a lovable little lizard into a flesh eating giant hell beast.

I would mention the Flood and Necromorphs but since those weren't options I'll just say I'm tied between Blacklight and FEV.

The Flood and Borg are actually infections of sorts, so I'll go with them.

Doclector said:
If you mean as in what would be worst to hit the real world, I'd say green flu.

Explanation:

This is the virus from left 4 dead, nicknamed "green flu" seemingly by "ceda". The advantage this has over other zombie viruses is that it can be spread not only by bites, but by pretty much the same methods as flu, although, the pre-reanimation symptoms are unknown. Posters asking people to wash their hands regularly suggest the bacteria can survive on surfaces for quite some time, meaning that not becoming infected would be alot harder than simply not being bitten, even the unturned infected would pose a threat, and it's not so easy to tell who they are. The incubation rate seems to vary, bitten infected can turn within minutes, or within days, making containment difficult. Immunity exists, but it is extremely low, and worse, these immunes could carry the virus. Even if you were immune, the sheer amount of infected would be enough to simply kill you. That's even forgetting the special infected, who seem almost designed to defy any biological containment. Tanks would crach through any wall, while hunters would simply jump over them. boomers would make clean up an issue, smokers and jockeys would make military barricades difficult to keep together. Meanwhile, chargers and spitters would kill countless already besieged survivors. Even with such vague details, such a virus could easily wipe the world out within months, years if we were lucky.
That is the best Left 4 Dead zombie explanation I've heard.

My vote is for the F.E.V. It is special, because unlike a vampire (kind of bad ass, in some ways), a mindless zombie, or dead, the F.E.V. turns you into a giant, androgynous savage with some remnant of former sapience. I think that of the other options, the F.E.V. would be the most degrading to you and most horrifying to the people who knew you, that is unless you were already a dim-witted savage. In that case it wouldn't be so different.

You want a real horrible virus. Try Necrotizing fasciitis.
I hate to be so picky, but (as horrible as it is) necrotizing fasciitis is a condition caused by bacterial infection.

The fact that it's real does make it worse than any of the poll options, though...

Well i was tempted to add the flood up there, but really they use an eveloutionary advantage to control the body, its not an infection. And i would love to drop a hunter in the vats just to see what comes out the other end.

Other.

Rotavirus kills over 500,000 children under 5 every year, some strains of Ebolavirus have motality rates of up to 90% within a few weeks.

The prions responsible for Creutzfeldt-Jakobs Disease are arguably even scarier, but the poll asked about viruses and bacteria...

Haven't played Prototype, but it seems pretty legit. That said, the Green Virus (L4D) because of what Doclector said.

I had a feeling the sudden rise in votes for green flu may have had something to do with my disturbingly detailed knowledge. XD

Yea streptococcus something or other. It's basically the same thing that causes step throat.

But I couldn't really be bothered correcting it after posting. Plus I don't think all the ones the OP mentioned are actually technical virus'. I have a feeling most Zombie related media is usually bacterial or parasitic.

But when you get rite down to it there isn't much difference between a virus and a bacteria. Asside from the fact that virus' aren't actually living organism they work pretty much the same way as bacterium... sort of.
Lol.

Well, from a biological perspective they're as different as animals are from plants, but from a sick human perspective it often doesn't make much difference.

I read the Prototype one and thought "Holy Shit"
I read the L4D one and thought "Thank god it's a game"

I'd choose Flood but since it's not there, the Green Virus

Yeah but heres the scary part about the Green Virus, Weve only seen the effects roughly 2 weeks after inital infection. If that extreme of mutaitons happened after only 14 days, Id hate to see what happens after a month. Although there is the off chance that i could hypothetically mutate into something benign. Slim but still a possabliity.
