He should absolutely be able to burn the Koran. It doesn't fucking matter whose holy book it is. You should have complete freedom of speech and expression. This is America. The reason things like the first amendment exist is to guarantee everyone the right to express their opinions, ESPECIALLY the unpopular ones. What surprises me is when people who support building a mosque on ground zero turn around and say "no burning Korans!" because that just shows they support the mosque for all the wrong reasons. They don't care that it's their right to do so, they just support it because "IT'S WHAT THE MUSLIMS WANT AND WE HAVE TOO KEEP THEM HAPPY"

Why is there this huge double standard with Muslims? As you said, they burn flags and shit all the time, and we don't go "yeah, if we see you burn a flag, we'll drop napalm on you." We don't have to like it, but we aren't threatening to take action against it. But then something as simple as one guy burning a book he doesn't agree with and all of the sudden there are threats of terrorism? It's times like this where America should be standing its ground and saying "We have the right to do this, and we aren't letting you take it away." Instead everyone is going "DON'T LET PEOPLE BURN KORANS! IT'S OFFENSIVE!!!!" You know what else is offensive? Some jackoff from some country that we aren't even on good terms with, telling use we aren't allowed to burn some book that holds no value to us because according to something we don't believe in it's heresy.

This idiot can light fire to a pile of Korans for all I care. Is it a dick move, yes, but it's a dick move that he should be completely allowed to make.

Why not build a monument to Hitler in Auschwitz while we´re at it?

(I do realize that the mosque - hitler isnt the best comparison, since not all muslims are terrorists, but really...)
There are two things that are wrong in that post of yours.

First, it's not a mosque, but an Islamic community center that has a room of prayer in it (I don't know what it is named in English).

Secondly, it's not on ground zero, it's two blocks away.

It annoys me that because the genius that came up with the day spelt "Qur'an" wrong every second post has now spelt it Koran. It just looks stupid. Anyway, its not like every Muslim burns the American flag its just a few, so to burn the Qur'an in retaliation is just being petty and racist.
Umm sorry to burst your bubble but the Qur'an has been spelled several different ways Koran, Kuran, Coran. And these different spellings exist because of the attempt to romanize a completely different language with different characters. It was an attempt to make a phonetic version of the language so that non speakers could read the romanized text and be able to actually say the words so they would sound as close as possible without having to learn the new alphabet/language.

I don't think burning a flag is technically equitable to burning a holy text (unless you think that flag represents your god or something). That being said, the man has a right to free speech, regardless of how big a dick move his choice of expression was...

Lets just make it a international "Burn any holy/political/other symbol you like"-day, for everyones sake. It will be worth the effort, believe me.

Gawd, THANK YOU

This guy gets it right here.

Mind you this doesn't just apply to muslims, look deep enough in everything and you'll see double standards popping up all over the place.

By burning the Koran, you are insulting ALL Muslims. News flash, most Muslims are very nice people who have a different religion. It's like saying that all Irish Catholics are child molesters, or all Americans are fat inbred idiots. Start burning the terrorists, or worse, give them a sex change and send them back to their country and see what their jihad brethren do to them then

Im fine with muslims christians buddhists whatever yeah
But in the Quran it says, dont feel bad about killing or hating the infadel (or something like that) now if muslims dont accept that part fine yeah, but the fact that their holy book says that ... hmmm

Believe whatever you want to believe, just as long as it doesn't harm others

Yes it is, because there are people who can be non religious but take great national pride. The kind of people who have a flag waving in their back yard and look at it every day and remember the trials and sacrifice it took to get where they are. I'm European and half English so it's in my blood to make fun of the yanks at every twist turn I get; but they have my respect for their national pride and yes, to some people burning the american flag is WORSE than burning a religious text because a flag is a symbol of an abstract idea, an ideal, a way of life.

And by burning a nation's flag you're insulting a whole nation, same thing dude.

Agreed. I'm not even American, but the fact that someone thought it might be a good idea to build a mosque on ground zero absolutely fucking disgusts me.

Sure it's not a war on Islam, but Islam and 9/11 will be forever related in the worst possible way. To think that a mosque at that particular site would do anything but wind everybody up is just insane.

I've known a lot of Muslims over the years, most of them pretty sane. But, as with most things in life, the vocal and irrational minority seem to be getting heard more and more

OT: My opinion is this. If the extremists are allowed to protest, accusing soldiers of murder and, as was the case in Luton, England a while back, wave banners demanding beheading of infidels, then why shouldn't he be allowed to burn a Koran?

Yeah it's idiotic and will only be the equivalent of adding petrol to an already roaring bonfire, but the extremists are already as needlessly irritable as a hornets nest suffering from steroid withdrawal symptoms, what's the worst that can happen?!!

I don't care what people burn. If they own it and they're not endangering anyone elses property or life, they should be free to set fire to it if they so desire.

That people regard this as offensive seems a little bit ridiculous to me.
This. Not to mention that the 'mosque' it contains is simply a prayer room. Also included in the same community centre is a Christian prayer room and a Jewish prayer room. I have no idea how so many people can get so angry about something they seem to know nothing about.

I don't agree with burning the Koran however the point you made about how they burn they American flag and similar items Is not really that valid.I mean not every one of them burns the flag just like how not every American burnt a Koran.

It's so pathetic, having to go through all this violence for a religion which (no offence) seems to be based on half baked idea's. Personally, I don't need a god to control my life, I life my life independently, my own way. People are never going to truly respect these people if they keep acting childishly in this manner. I know I lost all respect for such people a LONG time ago.

I used to be Agnostic, but now I am Atheist because of all this.

First off we shouldn't burn Korans, not all muslims are terrorists, they are not attacking american's religion they are just attacking us as a whole, we are personally attacking their religion saying that it is the cause of the terrorists when it well... from what I hear it is and it isn't, I won't go into it but yeah it's completely out of line.

The Muslims that burn American flags are extremists.... you can't possibly consider Muslim extremists and Muslims even in the same category. I'm a Christian and I know a few Muslims, they're very nice people who are let down by the extremists of their religion. (We are peaceful with each other, don't really talk about religion). Did you know the KKK are a Christian group? But no one considers them as Christians because they are that extreme and un-Christian. The same thing needs to happen with Muslim extremism - you would have to be crazy or ignorant to think that all Muslims want the same thing as the extremists. So actually, burning the book that the whole Muslim religion loves, is like saying all Muslims are terrorists that burn flags and blow up people. ITS ONLY THE EXTREMISTS THAT DO THAT. I bring it up again, its like burning the Bible because you disagree with the KKK. Daaaaym, ranting. Anyway, you get my point.

How about having a don't-be-ignorant day, 365 days each year?[footnote]One extra day each fourth year of course.[/footnote]
