Moral dilemma of today: "Are interspecies relationships wrong?"

Comming up: "Is it moral to play poker with Cthulhu?"

People keep saying that Skyrim is promoting beastiality, it's bullshit.
Beastiality is only illegal (in most places) because the animal is not able to say no and it's 'infringing on its rights'
If a dogs were sentient and intelligent like us then it'd be fine as long as it is consenting.

The same goes for argonians, it's not okay to fuck a lizard.
It is okay to fuck an ultra-intelligent lizard that is giving the thumbs up!
or..lizard claw.

Whatever, not worth talking about.

As long as it's provably consensual, of proper age, and not involving me, I don't care.

Biologically: Pre-zygosis will take care of any realistic complaints a "naturalist/purist" could bring up (including STDs since the rule remains the same: "Don't want to risk getting AIDS/herpes/crotch-broccoli? Don't stick your dick in it").

I don't find fictional aliens attractive apart from maybe very human like ones like Vulcans. That is just my preferences however and if someone wants to get busy with Garrus all power to them. I'll be over here eyeing up Joker and hoping EDI doesn't go GLADoS on me.

Should this even be an issue? On what basis could you say interspecies relations were wrong? Because it squicks you? So what?

And I also assumed this was about bestiality at first, which actually probably would have been more interesting.

The difficulty with interspecies relationships is in reality it tends to do more with animals rather than aliens.

Ultimately I don't feel I have any right to dictate what people do in their freetime and in private quarters but I have never felt any sexual attractions to any animals but I don't see it as entirely unlikely for others.

I kind of want to say if you find yourself being attracted to animals then you should perhaps talk to a therapist and look into if you have social interaction issues or phobias but that's mostly due to not hearing of an inter-species relationship that wasn't partly the result of a vicious phobia of social interaction.

Sorry for the double post, but I would love to see a photoshop image of that. Quickly, to 4Chan!
a bad photoshop of a "shepherd...wrex." moment, then after that it shows a hybrid of them...

would be very bad.

plus with how fast krogans can breed, and the sex drive that humans have...that species crossbreed would dominate the universe.

For games/fiction: Yes. Heck, one could marry a rock if the game allowed it.

For real.. Yes? Maybe? Depends?

If both are sentients, willing and aware of all the stuff they need to know "to make it work". They both count as responsible people. So why not.

Plus the whole "live and let live" attitude.

Like someone already said: Some people have sex with animals, so I guess there'll always be a few out there who are turned on by non-humans. And if the alien is intelligent enough to consent to the action (or if - for them - it doesn't actually carry any particular weight and is something people do at the breakfast table) then I'm fine with leaving people to it.

For most people, I suspect the turn-off would arrive at whatever point the "alien" nature became obvious. E.g. Asari look just like humans wearing blue paint (disregarding the tentacles for hair) but maybe their *cough* more private anatomy looks like a pair of jaws. Or has more tentacle-hair surrounding it. Or something equally weird.

At that point I suspect MOST people wouldn't feel in the mood any more!

So long as it is a sentient creature, I see no problems. Sure, the offspring might turn out a bit weird depending on what kind of relationships were made, but it could just be called evolution: the better parts of two species merging into a more powerful one.

I highly doubt aliens we ever discover will exchange DNA in any way resembling us.

But, if we did find them...it's an interesting thing. I'm not sure where the bestiality line happens, because if we found dolphins to be intelligent in the way we are, I would still consider it bestiality to have sex with them, and thus not okay in my book, consent or not. Just because it's anthropomorphic, should we draw the line and say it's okay? Not sure there. That's a difficult one.

As long ad it doesn't endanger their lives (Hey, if you are from completely different planets, the difference in bacterial makeup may make it lethal for you to just share saliva.), then two consenting adults may do what they wish. If love can blossom beyond gender barriers, then why not beyond species barriers?

Well... damn. I really have to learn to read the main post before answering a poll. I thought you meant interspecies realationships right now, like a man married to a dog or something like that, because, thats just wrong. Reminds me of that one guy that got married to a pillow with a picture of his favourite anime character

you are talking about a situation that so far never has occured. so i don't have a opinion on this. if the situation would work like star trek, star wars or mass effect then i would be fine with it. (maybe even one of those)

It's not superficial that we can only have relationships with humans. It is morally wrong. Animals are of an entirely different species than us. We can't understand them, nor can we procreate with them. How can you expect to have a legitimate relationship with someone that you can neither understand, nor procreate with? And animals don't work like humans either. They only get together for instinctual mating purposes and most animals do not stay in a committed relationship. We have yet to understand whether they even possess the same concept of love as we do. Sure an animal can be loyal, but does that mean that your dog is capable of harboring romantic feelings for it's owner? And Dogs will lick and hump just about anyone that they please. They more than likely have no sense of romantic commitment. And there's also to consider that we eat animals. Is it right to have a relationship with an animal that you also consume? Like having a relationship with a chicken and still eating KFC. If they were capable of sentient thought like us, they would probably resent us for all the murder and consumption of both them and their offspring. We can't tell if an animal is consenting to a relationship either. Do you think it's right to force an animal into a relationship or engage in sexual intercourse with it without knowing whether or not the animal consents. There are just too many barriers. And most people who are interested in animals sexually are people with perverted fetishes. Otherwise, it isn't even natural to have a sexual attraction to an animal.

Y...you should have specified in the title that you meant sapient species...

Don't see why not; real people don't have to deal with this issue (yet), so why worry?
