Every day at college i hear people banging on about how the cod seres is the best series ever because of its realism and multiplayer. I disagree with this as i am admittedly a massive halo fanboy. But one of my main reasons for hating cod is that i find the multiplayer incredibly unbalanced. On an open map on cod4 one player can sit back, out of view, get seven kills and then call in a chopper to kill everything. Surely this doesnt make a good online experience? So, i would like to know if im the only person who thinks cod is shit.

So you say that the whole series is 'shit' because you don't like one game in the series?

It is a good series but it's not the best ever.

The multiplayer is the most unbalanced part of a game I've ever played.

Definetly not as overrated as Halo ;)

Don't get started with "awesome multiplayer!" because that's not what I think.

Anyways, both of them are First-Person shooters and will be forgotton within the next two decades because of the constant wave of shooters which will become better and better step by step.

no i dont like any of them i just used cod4 as an example
So why don't you like the other games? They didn't have this 'unbalanced' multiplayer.

It's amazing what CoD4 did to dumb down the gaming community. It's a great game and the online multiplayer was pretty much perfectly done, with well-sized and balanced maps and thousands of ways to customize your spawning loadouts.

The problem is that much like Halo did back it was first gaining massive fame, Call of Duty 4 basically stuck everyone who overplayed it into CoD4 mode. One of my friend's sole reasons for not initially liking Left 4 Dead was "you can't aim down the sights like in Call of Duty." What the fuck!? It's a totally different game, you don't need aiming down the sites.

First off, once someone have sent in the chopper, they need to die and respawn in order to earn up a new one, and personally, I LOVE fighting choppers! Perfect oppurtunity to use my handy little RPG-7 <.<

If you want to knock down something in the game that is unfair, go against the Martyrdom and Juggernaut perks, please!
(I deem Last Stand legitimate, cause you must in fact aim yourself...)

EDIT: Call of Duty 4 is not a WWII shooter, my friend, you say you don't like them in general, and you go against the only CoD to date that is not set there? XD

In all fairness COD4 set the standard for new FPS.
It took a lot from previous games and created a balanced game that kept people interested.

World at war is a different story altogether, but still a quality game.

So no, I wouldn't say its overrated, its just a dominant series in the modern market.

Since I am on my, what, 7th run-through of Call of Duty 2, that game seems a bit boring now, but even though I completed Call of Duty 4 twice (on Veteran, to get the achievements) the game is nonetheless awesome.
I'm not overrating it, because I honestly think it's one of the most memorable and best FPS experiences in the last few years (maybe with the exception of Bioshock, of which I have only played the demo).

I haven't played Call of Duty: World at War though, but I think that Call of Duty 4 isn't overrated, and who ever thinks that should be silenced with NERF GUNS!

Yeah, nerf guns (although how it can penetrate a human's skin is still a mystery, but I will do it!)

Ugh, I'm tired of the overuse of the word "overrated." Can't we use a different word, like "popular?" It seems to mean the same thing these days...

I like halo... Just because the 3rd isn't worth a penny unless you are also paying microsoft for their online experience doesn't mean the whole series is poor. I managed to finish Legendary in coop in 4 hours with a friend (1st time play for both of us), plus the story was poor and dialogue lacking. Doesn't mean I hate halo - by no means, I thought the 1st one was brilliant and the second one had a fun bug you could abuse in multiplayer. I personally like COD4 and if you play it well, no way can one sole camper last more than 3 minutes if you know where he is. Different games have different mechanics, and imo COD4 is very balanced, you just get servers with good and bad players. If you're that picky go join a clan.

EDIT: PS I am referring to call of duty 4 only since I haven't played the other games and don't personally enjoy WW2 shooters since they're done to death and didn't like the game mechanic of guns not being accurate enough to hit something 3m in front of you.

The CoD series died for me after CoD 2 with a brief revival in the form of Modern Warfare. The only real reason i buy the CoD games are for the multiplayer and in my opinion CoD 2 had the best multiplayer, good community, very good maps and a good selection of weapons all making a pretty balanced online experience, just 2 quarrels with it though, the russian PPH700 (i can't remember the name of the gun so a rough guess) and the Kar98 in my opinion were a bit unbalanced, but still fun to use.
Since the inclusion of perks in online play and ranking up for more weapons and such i just found it a bit boring, it felt like more of a chore to get to the next rank than just having fun shooting some peoples brains out.
I also don't see the hype with CoD:WaW, i played it for about half an hour over a mates house on campaign and it just strikes me as another generic WW2 shooter, though the multiplayer does redeem it a little with well designed maps and back to the good old style guns, though the perks are still present. All my friends were drooling over the release of World at War, i did find it a bit over rated. The series in itself isnt over rated, just some of the games.
Ok rant over, sorry guys, don't know what got into me there :p.

I must admit, CoD4 only held my interest for alittle while myself. I stop tending to care for the CoD series after 2 which I feel is still my favorite. I do not tend to play FPS for deathmatch because well, you could play any fps in my mind and have the same experience. Sure there are many games that have recently came out that I feel are overrated and some that get so much praise that you just want to smack them upside the head and say "Fine you like the game but I really dont care about that" (aye halo being one of them xD) The game was alright, but I feel would have been amazing if COOP was put into it. WaW held my interest far longer just because of the COOP aspect....eh..they need more coop lovin in these fps games

I don't think it's being praised for realism too much. It certainly isn't anywhere near realistic, so that would be odd to be praising it for that. I also think it's interesting that Halo was brought up in the OP about overrated video games. That's the pinnacle of overrated games in my opinion. But, nevertheless.. COD 4 really just got me wanting another good Battlefield game. Which I get to have later this year with Battlefield 1943. Can't wait.
