I'm saying that the only reason anyone is watching it right now is because it's popular.
Except that this is popular against societal expectations. I'm an 18 year old male college student, for god's sake. Everything I've ever learned tells me I should hate this show. The first time I heard the theme song I just about died of shame and almost stopped watching right there. (Now I have to resist the temptation to sing along.) And what reaction do you suppose I'd get talking about it in public? I just don't think it can compare to something like hairstyles.
You're not the first person to reply to me with something along these lines. And who knows, maybe you're right. All I'm saying is that my opinion is that this bears a striking resemblance to many of the internet fads that have come and gone over the years, and my guess is that it will pass, and people who invested sizable portions of their time in a show about pastel colored magical talking ponies will look back and feel just as silly as white guys who had afros.

Ok here's the difference between this internet fad and others. this one has been going strong for the past six months and grows stronger everyday, and yes it will pass as most things pass but don't dismiss it as a small thing when a lot of people enjoy it. to be honest i started to watch it with my 13 year old cousin the internet had nothing to do with it.

Why would I look back at time I spent having fun and enjoying myself and feel silly about it?

It's a good thing your opinion doesn't affect my enjoyment of things. Honestly, I'd be slightly bummed out if the fandom just vanished, but I'd still watch season two. I'm really do not see where you are getting this "Want to be part of the "in" crowd thing" considering the number of people who do not watch it is far larger than the number of people who watch it.

We get it; you don't like it. And we're fine with that. We don't ask for you to try to "understand" why we like the show; we just do. There's no need for complex analysis; it's a fun show, reminiscent of cartoons of the 90's with an unimaginably likable subject matter and a great fandom surrounding it. It's enjoyable, the fandom is enjoyable; it's just enjoyable.

Really, you guys just seem like you are trying to elevate yourselves above us in your own mind by claiming this is some sort of fad we're only into because it's popular, and that only you are wise enough to foresee that we will regret this in the future. Frankly this is rather pathetic. Quit talking down to us, please. We can make our own decisions with how we spend our time and do not require your assistance and over-analysis.

I would say not. It's nothing more than the internet's latest love affair. But the internet is a fickle thing, and it'll be something new in a couple months.

I guess another way of putting that is, if you want to invest however many hours of your life watching something just for it to go out of style a couple of months from now, then I guess that's your call. But sooner or later it's going to be like 80's fashion, something that seemed like a good idea at the time, even though it clearly wasn't.
Implying that people only watch it for meme material. Seriously, we can't just watch it for fun? He is asking if it is a good cartoon that he should consider watching. It is. Some of us don't just use it as an excuse to spam pics.

No most of us are against the mindless spamming of Meme's and this pony one is currently the most visible one so yes we will blame that on said fan base. I get pissed at the people trying to turn portal 2 into a meme aswell. If you read my post you'll know i have no issue with the show, its this herd nonsense and anypony bs which is annoying me, and making these forums less enjoyable.
You only have yourself to blame if you come into a pony thread and see pony pictures. I haven't seen anyone say "Herd" or "Anypony" outside of ponychan, Equestria Daily, or the user group on the Escapist.

Aside from all the reasons you've no doubt heard by now, i.e. great animation, great characters, great writing, that it's genuinely funny and down-right adorable, I would like to offer a reason of my own: novelty. So far as I know, such a thing as a little girls cartoon being genuinely GOOD has never happened before. Really, an event like this is like Halley's Comet passing by. You ought to check it out, if for no reason other than the fact that you'll probably never get to see it again.

THIS. SHOW. IS. AWESOME.
Seriously, flawless animation, good characters, excellent music, laching the pointless saccharine of most of today's cartoons.

Yeah, it's worth watching. It's a good cartoon.

I'm not too crazy about it in general, but it's cute, it's funny, and it's well animated.

When I say that, I mean...

It's cute: the characters are drawn in a sort of anime/power puff girls style, and it works. The cuteness is just an integral part of the show. The characters, even with their crazy antics, are cute and not annoying.

It's funny: This show has a good mix of random, slapstick, and intelligent humor. It keeps fresh and the jokes aren't forced (if a little immature/silly at times, but what are you expecting?).

It's well animated: Speaks for itself. This series is bright and colorful but not eye-killing, the animation is smooth, characters look consistent, and there's really no QUALITY (save for Derpy, but then they turned it into a running gag so it's all good)!

So yeah long story short cute good cartoon, watch it with your little sister or something.

Short answer...NO.

Long answer, it's a kids show. Not even an incredibly inventive kids show. The first two episodes are sooooo looong. You know who loved it, my kids. Because it's so thoroughly a kids show.

Go ahead, watch it. You probably guessed that that's what I think from my avatar, though.

They're what, 25 minutes long per episode including the advert break? That's pretty much the length of every cartoon show ever.

Yes. Give it a chance to impress you. I did, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. I have since seen all the episodes, and am awaiting the next season.
