Now not that I haven't appreciated this hour lay in because universities across the UK are closed but I think that it's bloody laughable myself that every other country in the world that gets snow (As for as I know) can continue to function in anything but an actual Blizzard! We got about 2 1/2 inches of snow and every things stopped!
Annoying because I wanted to go to the library.
My question to you fellow escapists is this,
A If you're British are you embarrassed by our countries inadequacy and if you are not British do you laugh at us??

2 millimeters of snow here, all the schools closed. Like one of my mates said in his FB status this morning, "In Canada they are digging their way out saying "COME ON! We gotta get to work!!" In Britain - "Oooohhh.... looks a bit slippy!""

I live in Canada, but I live in Vancouver, on the West Coast. There is not a single flake of snow on the ground right now, and we have had snow on the ground for about three days in total this winter.

Last year, there were several inches of snow, and it was fucking pandemonium.

Why yes. Britain is never ready for snow, because everyone thinks that "it never snows in Britain". Despite, you know, it does.

In today's morning (between 10-11 AM in local time) we had a nice blizzard. Actual reduced visibility, lots of snow flying. Does anyone care? Hell no, it's normal for winter. I wish we had more snow, if anything.

It doesnt snow in Australia, its awesome, and like 40 drgreees Celcius here, waaay better than snow.

But if it did start snowing where i live, it would stuff up that many people, and a lot more things since it is the middle of summer...

I envy you and your hot sky, thats why I want to move over there. What could be better than Xmas in the middle of summer?

Britain is really bad with snow, every year that it snows there is the same problem "we have not got enough salt", why can't the government go to the shops? Theres loads of the stuff there.

And put a bit on the bloody pavements, I can pretty much skate to town, which is a mile away and all down hill ... the hard part is getting back.

I live in the Welsh hills so we have it very bad every year but we never moan as we are used to it, we just adapt and get on with it.
One of the issues in Britain concerning the gritting ect is that one time the councils had teams gritting the roads constantly from November to February until cutbacks stopped it.
Now the gritting is done by normal council workers during working hours and only if really needed at night and as you've noticed since they started to work this way, Britain has suffered much more than under the old way, thus in the long run these cutbacks have cost Britain much more.
