Possible, yes, but also tedious and no fun.

If I wanted to move after every shot, I would. If I can effectively hinder the enemy team and pot-shoot any other snipers who want my head, I'll bloody stay put.

Obviously you're not a good sniper if you can't adapt yourself, however.

even for non snipers camping in my mind is a legit strat. if you and a friend can get together on most games you can control a large protion of alot of maps.

all the people saying camping is no fun its not really up to you to say that. if the camper finds camping fun then they should do it.

If you stay in one spot after you kill someone, you suck as a sniper. And if the enemy force doesn't kill you the second time they either suck or you got lucky. This is painfully obvious in BC2 where the sniper shots leave a vapor trail right to the shooter. This isn't a problem with me because I'm one of the few quick-scoping/short range snipers in that game. Don't think I've ever used the 12x scope.

Very slightly off-topic, but why does everyone hate quick-scoping? I've asked this several times in other threads and have yet to hear a valid response. Because someone has better reflexes than you and can aim faster, that makes them "noobs" or "fags"? Get over yourselves. Quick-scoping takes a HELL of a lot more skill than sitting in a corner staring down your sights.
Sure you call it a "skill" but i just see it as a way for people to get a raging boner once they've killed someone "I QUICK SCOPED YOU LOL YOU SUCK IM SICK FUCK YEAH QUICK SCOPE I CAN RUN AROUND WITH AN INTERVENTION SLEIGHT OF HAND PRO". Why do people hate it? Because it kills people, but it's a retarded way of killing people, it's abuse of a system, why not just play the game like everyone else, use snipers from a distance and pick people off and engage CQC with rifles and shotguns. /rant

To answer OP's question, ofcourse it's possible. Hell i don't even consider anything with a sniper remotely related to camping. To 'snipe' you HAVE to stay in a position and fire a shot then if you wish move along and find another vantage point, rinse n repeat.

Em basically all these strategies require you to camp. Just because you change where camp does not mean you aren't camping anymore. Also quickscoping is a legitimate strategy aswell. It was done in CoD well before they brought in the perks and no one ever complained about. Now that it has become a big game on consoles and some whiny stereotypical 12 year old does it does not suddenly make it illegitimate.

I suppose so, but to get off accurate shots in most games, you have to stay still for at least a small amount of time. I just think people use "camping" as an excuse for why they get shot all the time
Exactly what I think.

A good sniper will never camp. Camping is practically impossible in video games due to how players respawn. They know where you are and they know you've killed them so they're going to do their best to get you. Be it by dying over and over again until they reach you or by counter-sniping you they will eventually get you. The only viable strategy as a sniper is to abuse an area for as long as you can then move. Staying in one place will only get you killed.

Umm, yeah. I do it all the time. Run around, pause for a few seconds and look for enemies, if you don't see any, move on...

In some games it is, however you need to keep moving around the map - which makes it difficult but at the same time rewarding.

Whenever I play as a sniper, my strategy is usually:

Get behind cover
Pop off several shots, exploding several heads in the process
OH JESUS CRAP HE SAW ME
Run to different piece of cover.

It's served me well so far.

It is possible, in fact that's what I do - snipe an enemy then haul ass away, so they don't figure out your location. It's not camping, since I'm constantly moving.

Yes, but in games not so much. Yes there are the not so obvious places, like half-way up a crane in BF2 rather than the top. But quickly these not-so obvious places become the obvious ones. Games unfortunately don't change constantly like real conflicts do, not yet anyway.

BFBC2 does this to some extent, but the same juicy spots are still there.

Camping is a myth created by people who are so used to running around, they taped their w key and control stick so they wont be called a camper by people who are worse than them... and still are called campers.
Sniping does involve a bit of waiting around, but thats because thats what snipers actually do. When things go wrong and they are getting charged or counter-sniped, thats when you leg it to a safe place.
Picking up a sniper implies atleast a small degree of staying alive to help your friends who will charge in, and they will in turn protect you from getting rushed. So if you are called a camper, its the other teams fault for not being able to get in close, where it will be easy to kill you.

Yeah, you can keep moving around between shots/kills.

You can go no-scope and use your sniper as a close range shotgun, at least in some games.

You can quick-scope, and use it as any semi-auto/manual (depending on sniper) rifle with hefty damage if you're skilled enough.
