Everyone does this up to a certain degree, I'm sure.
Just as the OP said, sometimes it's better to do so.

Being a poser who can't find his own way and thus starts imitating others is a completely different matter.

Hmm... to be so shallow that you try to be whatever a given group wants you to be, instead of just being yourself and finding friends who want to hang out with that person? Not wrong in the moral sense, but you are being stupid.

Disagree, if you think you behave the same with your mum as you are with your mates I guarantee you are wrong.

I'm a respectful person. A very sarcastic person, but respectful. I'm that way with my mom. And with my friends.
