In my opinion:
Interests: ++
Personalities: +-
You want to have things in common to create a foundation for your relationship, so that you have things to do together. However, I think personalities should be opposite because people tend to get along best with their foils. I'm not talking about hanging out with large groups, I'm talking about long friendships and relationships. This is true at least in my experience.
That makes sense but, again, it's not so easily categorized... for the personality bit anyways. I'm shy and get along with quieter people best. Less quiet people are fun too but super outgoing ends up scaring me a bit lol I get kinda overwhelmed.
I don't think everything needs to be the same, just not completely opposite-like. I mean, with my friends we're the same in some aspects then completely different in others. Same interests but mix and match personalities.
So... it's good to be similar but it's also good to be different? Balance is nicest, I think, but that's just me. I'm sure it varies from person to person

but complete opposite sounds destined for failure unless the stars align and everything's just right. Or something.
