the PSP is trying to eat more than it can chew. The DS has a huge library. Plus Sony's just trying to be better than it. Why do you think Microsoft hasn't come out with a XBox handheld? Because they know it would fail. Nintendo might suck with regular consoles. But when it comes to Handheld they are the best to choose from. Then again the PSP is just another option in life. Just like choosing a 360, PS3, or Wii.
The thing is, I don't think the Go is competing with the DS at all. The DS really isn't a portable gaming device unless you are willing to dedicate a luggage carrier just for all of your games. And to be honest, quality is far more important to me than quantity, and the DS has got an enormous quantity of games, but the quality isn't always there. Not to mention the PSP and the DS are for different audiences, the DS is for those kids and girlfriends, and the PSP is just more hardcore. And the reason why the PSP isn't selling as well as the DS is simply that kids and girlfriends buy the DS because it's more of a toy, while hardcore gamers are much too busy forking money over for their consoles.

I think the PsP has a chance to redeem its self its just got to destroy its evil cyborg brother PsP Go and make some good games.

How could a console be dead with a 50 million install base and more big titles coming out for it this holiday season than ever? It's not dead by a long shot. I didn't think that much of it since I bought one earlier this year but I play it all the time. It's a great system.
because of how many of them actually use it and buy games for it. very few psp games have sold over 1 million copies, in fact most of them, even the big ones, dont even move half that. of course the psp isnt dead or dying at all. and as someone else said, its even better once youve hacked it into a portable emulator.

honestly, that has got to be the dumbest argument ive ever seen. if thats the case then would you consider ANY of the game boy systems to not be portable gaming devices? and on that note it takes more space to carry around 5 umd discs than 10 ds carts, unless of course your psp is hacked and you put them on the memory stick, but still my point stands. the ds IS a handheld and the ds DOES compete with the psp.

furthermore, ALL of the hardcore gamers i know own a ds, while only a few actually own a psp. whether your a "hardcore" gamer or not there are games that people love regardless that are on the ds. and im not just talking about the kiddie games either, there are a lot of very good games on the ds that ARENT kiddie games at all.

and if you want to talk quality over quantity, in my opinion the ds has more quality games than does the psp. just because a system has a lot of games doesent mean it only has one or two quality games, and just because a system has a smaller number of games doesent mean it has a lot of quality games. and again, im not refering to all these kiddie games for the ds either. of course the word good is a subjective term, so what i find good you may not, but honestly i get sick and tired of this bullshit people like you spit out about all the ds's games being for kids and that the system has no good games for older/hardcore gamers. all you all do is look at all these kiddie games and none of the others, its really very fallacious.

Its hardly dead.. it still sells a lot of units.

Its just the selection of games for it is quite poor. But as with the PS3 its improving..

The Psp isn't really dieing, but it isn't exactly moving forward either. It seems to be stuck in the state of fail and success. Like a bunch of mediocre games will be released for it followed by half the amount of good games. If the PSP sticks like that for much longer I think it will be time to scrap the PSP, or at least re-think a PSP2, and by PSP2 i don't mean the PSP-Go.

meh... I still use my v1 PSP to do certain tasks (music, games, movie etc.)

I don't think it's dead, it just needs a new version that doesn't just have a cool sliding feature. I would totally buy a PSP go if it had another thumbstick for playing games.

Exactly, I do not consider Game Boys to be a portable gaming platform either. It's portable compared to its time, but when we have IPhones and the PSP Go, having disc or carry-on games is no longer considered portable. And I don't consider the PSP or the DS really portable either (it's like the CD players are not considered to be portable when you've got IPods). I consider the Go portable because it carries all of your games with you.

Furthermore, I'm not talking about the people who play the games, I'm talking about the audience that Nintendo and Sony is aiming at. Sure some adults like Mario and consider it hardcore, but it's really hard to argue that the DS is nearly as hardcore and mature-rated as the PSP. That's not to say that kid games are bad. I'm just saying that the targeted audience is different. And having hardcore gamers owning a DS is as anecdotally irrelevant as me knowing girls who owns PSP. There are definitely cross-overs. Again, some kiddie DS games are fun, but that doesn't change them from being kiddie to mature. And it's undeniable that mature games are not as big a part of the DS's library as PSP.

And if you want to talk quality over quantity, the DS does have some quality games, but they're targeted at a much younger audience. Even some of their hardcore games are kiddie: Zelda, Professor Layton, etc. I'm sick and tired of this bullshit people like you spit out about kiddie games are synonymous to bad games. Kiddie games can be fun for older/hardcore gamers, but that doesn't change them from being kiddie games. I'm just saying that the PSP has a higher concentration of "good" hardcore games, and hardcore developers usually ignore it because they are more interested in making console games.

Again, the PSP, DS, GBA, etc are not portable in modern society, when you've got the Iphone and the Go (even netbooks are more portable than those). And the Go and DS are targeting completely different audiences, which is why I do not consider the PSP and the DS to be competing.

I've never seen the point of the PSP. I recently had a choice between that and the DS, and looking at the games, and future potential, I picked the DS.

I'm on the fence about this one. I don't think it quite died but it's not nearly as popular as before. I'd say it's starting to wane, just not quite dead yet. Still, that doesn't stop me from still wanting one. xD

It never died. I don't even like my ps3 really, it just sits on the shelf gathering dust, but many people do love their ps3, it might not be doing as well as the DS, but its certainly not dead.

I've never liked any handheld system.

So, yes, it is. I thought it was deemed dead a long time ago.

Compared to all other systems I'd say it'll die in the next months.

Doesn't keep me from having fun with the 30 titles I got for it and enjoying them every time I play them, though.

Custom Firmware + Emulators = Portable Arcade

Don't know what anyone else bought a PSP for, but I have never been disappointed with mine. It has faithfully played NES/SNES/GB/GBA/Genesis/SCUMM/MAME games since that first day that I bought it, like 4 years ago.

I am never without my favorite old school classics... ever.

Best $400 I ever spent.
