I live near Bradford, racism is a huge issue. There's a large majority of normal people from the various backgrounds, then you get the nutters.
Withing those minority of nutters it generally breaks down like this.
British Muslims hate foreign Muslims.
Foreign Muslims hate Hindus, but not as much they hate British Muslims.
Families from Pakistan hate Indians,
Families from India hate Pakistanis,
White people view them all with suspicion,
They all view white people with suspicion,
Every so often on group goes on a crime spree with the unspoken aim of getting some other racial group off of 'their' patch of land or street.

But hey ho, life goes on for the rest of us.

No, racism isn't really a big issue around where i live. My friends and I will joke about it sometimes like we do sexism and other stuff like that but we're not really serious about it. We ARE only 14,13 year olds. Please don't kill me. :(

I live in country Victoria so... not really. Well, in my area, no.

Where I go to school, it's mainly made up of Europeans: Italians, Dutch, Germans, Greeks, British, Irish (so many Irish :p) etc. They're all really proud of their descent but I've never heard of any racism problems.
However, there is a nearby area where a lot of Aboriginals live. I know for a fact that there are racist tendencies there.

I don't really know. I come from an area of mostly middle class white people. The few minorities around are just fine, but when it comes to poor people everyone is class-ist(?) and most of the poor stupid people that live just outside the area are black, and they hate the poor white people too. So they're more of snobs than racist.
I've been saying for a long time that the issues (at least as far as I have seen it in the US)is more of a socio-economic one than a racial one. I've seen people dress like gangstas (white and black people, mind you) and then wonder why people look at them funny or they get more flak from the cops.

One of the things that bothers me is that some people are so quick to use the race card. It's bad on both ends, although I've not really experienced much "reverse descrimination" myself. I got into one fight because of it a long time ago. I guess I was a little too white for the guy's taste. I won the fight, but still, don't slap people just for being a color you happen to have issue with. Well...if I ever saw a teal, cyan, or seafoam green person, I might hit them. I HATE those colors. Not that they're not decent people of course. XD

Wow, you don't live too far from me, unless the Bradford you're talking about isn't in Florida.

Hrm,
Well I have a neibour thats a bit of a bigot and it's apparantly been passed on to his kid, he's a sexist little twat as well.
Apart from that I couldn't really tell you as I don't intermingle with people if I can help it,
Though we do have a fair number of chavs.

Also around election time, where my freind lives there are far too many BNP stickers in windows for my liking.

Oh, we're going to lock you up for being an intolerant jerkface. That'll teach you. XD

In all seriousness though, most people laugh at racist/sexist/or other discriminatory jokes. I know a lot of them simply be virtue of hearing a lot of them. The thing about those jokes though is that if you can't say them with someone or the race/religion/gender/ etc etc of the joke present, you shouldn't be telling it.

I have a friend that's Puerto Rican, and we tease him about it every so often, but he doesn't mind it. In fact, he started the whole, "I'm the Freakin' Rican." thing. It stuck, so that's what we call him now.

Being white, I'm unqualified to speak of racism where I live. Certainly I have never experienced any, but then I'd not expect to.

I'm afraid this is the Bradford your Bradford is named after, Bradford North Yorkshire, England.

But I'll take your weather if you've got any spare.

Not really an issue where I live. There's never been anything but "those darn kids" around my area, usually because they set fire to post boxes/nick street signs/take peoples car window wipers/etc.

The only time I used to hear anything remotely racist was when my grandparents around. It wouldn't even be negative it would just be how they said stuff, as if other people were different. I can't describe it any better than that!

OK, I'm seeing stuff like UAF and BNP and other groups of letters I'm not fimialar with in this thread. Can someone explain them to me? Judging from what people have said, I'm going to guess that these are in the UK, because I've never heard of them here in the US.

The thing about racism is that I think people blow it way out of proportion. I mean sure, it exists, but it's not as prevalent as it was back then.

As for where I live (Douglasville, which is a tiny town outside of Atlanta) it's not that big a deal. Except both my parents are blatant racists whether they admit it or not. Especially my mom.

I voted 'other' so I with specify. In my particular area, no. In my country? Yes. In the UK there is an influx of illegal immigrants, and certain places have become hotbeds of violence.
But anyway, all of my friends are incredibly racist. They just blurt out the n word whenever the even see a black man. It's very disconcerting, but also pitiable.

One of my friends is a full blown racist thanks to hate crime laws. His stepfather spent a year in prison after beating up two black men who were harrassing his daughter.
Not only was he justified in his actions, but he was punished beyond need. My friend has a real hatred of black people all thanks to the legal system and two a**holes who happened to be black.

I've never met an actual racist in person, so . . . no.

By the way, I live in Minnesota.

Everywhere, always. Just a matter of intensity and "flavor".

We're a tribal species.

I live in the american south and I have never seen any racism. You kind of would have expected me to, but no. We joke about it and stuff but no one means anything by it,
