Grim title I know but it saddens me. Rare started out making some of the worst games back in the day. Friday the 13th nightmare on elm street, who framed roger rabbit. They made my nes days a nightmare. People seem to blame it on the publisher LGN but they designed them.

Then they started making great games just amazing games. Then even later they remade conkers and the multiplayer was one of the best i will ever play.

Now Rare says they don?t need their old franchises. They also shutdown a huge rare community site for no reason. Now there working on kinect sports.

It looks grim. I'd love for someone to say am an idiot heres proof there still awesome. But just I don?t know.

Your thoughts?

Looks like I?ll never see a new tediz vs squirels war :(.

Hmmm... I'd say Dying. What game are they making now anyway?

Calumon: Poor Rare... Moving companies must have hurt.

My personal experience with Rare entails the Donkey Kong Country games and the Killer Instinct series. Near as I can tell, when Rare was bought by Microsoft, it was gutted. Given what we've heard of them in the news lately, I think it's fair to say Rare as we knew it is gone for good.

Still keeping my fingers crossed for a Killer Instinct Gold XBLA release, though.

Nuts and Bolts was an amazing example of innovation in the industry, MS just isn't putting them to good use...

So alive, but under-utilized.

Potential innovation. Nuts & Bolts reeks of being rushed out to meet a deadline.

The last game they made worth playing was Starfox Adventures, that was merely good, hardly great.

Since then it's been remakes, hashed up sequels and two games based primarily on gardening. Dead, buried, the paint's worn off the memorial.

I sadly voted Dying... why?, well, just as you pointed out, Rare was the very reason to own a Nintendo 64 and I still have fond memories of it's games and even today I recently enjoyed Nuts & Bolts a lot.

Sadly, until they make a new platformer game, reclaim it's position as the FPS king of consoles and release a new fighting game or anything completely new and (read) original and stop pretending they're Microsoft's answer to Nintendo, then in my opinion, yes, they're slowly and painfully dying...

Wait why?

I visited Rare studios and some of there outside assets.

Their games are still awesome and they have a lot going on.

I don't know why people think they're dead all of a sudden...

I said dying, simply because they really aren't living up to the legacy of their N64 era. Every game was a classic then. Even Blast Corps. Well, maybe Blast Corps...

It is my opinion that Rare died about a year after the release of Donkey Kong 64.

Of course MS gives them plenty of money to keep operations going, but they haven't put out a polished game recently at all.

now it seems that they main thing they do is the microsoft avatar things and games with them, which are a dry hump compared to the creative games they used too make, so alot of fans now just view them as dead

The only thing that can save them for me is if they made another Jet Force Gemini or Killer Instinct, and MAKE THEM GOOD. These two games alone would allow me to forgive all past transgressions.

Oh what I'd do for a modern Killer Instinct, or fuck at least bring the original to to virtual console/XBLA.

They've been dead ever since they finished Conker's BFD for the N64 (which was their most flawed game since 1994). Ever since then it has been downhill and downhiller. And that isn't even a word. What did you expect when most of the talent have left the comppany?
