But we'll have to wait for the end of the year to see for sure, right?
Yeah I'm more thinking which is the best out of these two as I really loved these games and think they'll definitely be fighting it out with maybe one or two other games for the GOTY.

Well they'll definitely both be contenders... I'd say Red Dead Redemption because it's what the critics like.

I'm gonna go with RDR on this one. I had good fun with ME2 but the plot felt pretty scatterbrained and unmotivated by the time it ended, which took away big points in my book, given how important plot is in that game.

Like the OP I've been spending far more of my time in RDR doing side missions, hunting, exploring, and experimenting. Not even GTA made the optional stuff this alluring. I'm not rushing so I haven't seen thru the end of this so my opinion could change, but right now RDR gets my vote.

Man I was doing a bounty last night and I'm hog tying the bounty and my horse just falls over dead. Bit by a snake! lol I was pissed but thoroughly amused at the same time. Impressive that Rockstar managed to annoy me and amuse me simultaneously. This game has a little something to it, something the French call "I don't know what."

No, it won't. Partially because ME2 is the better game, but mainly because it is far to early to talk about Game of the Year. We haven't even gotten to the blockbuster fall releases yet.

But if you had to choose between these two games you choose ME2 right? Cool.

Even though I haven't played through the whole game yet I think RDR is much better than GTA 4. I'm enjoying it more but I am a huge Western fan.

We all know that whatever the game of the year is, it's not going to come out until some time in November or December because like movie awards, the ones that are most recent stick in the mind more.

Oh I agree 100%. I never finished GTA4. I found the game repetitive and unnecessarily realistic. GTA4 should have been more like the older GTA games or Saint's Row 2, then it would have been A LOT better. I really like RDR, but ME2 is just a funner game for me. I like western games too, but most I've played I didn't like, but RDR I like.

i haven't played RDR yet, but i'm sure that even if it makes me so overjoyed that i roll on the floor giggling like a demented child, well, my Avatar aught to hint at what I will be voting for...

Other. I'm going out on a limb and saying that the GOTY is going to be either Crysis 2 or Fallout: New Vegas. (Probably New Vegas)

While I love both games, Mass Effect 2 gets my vote for GOTY. Now I'm sure you're asking yourself, "Hmm, but why?" Well I'll tell you why!

In Mass Effect 2, you can sleep with Tali.

Game of the year.

RDR and its cattle herding shenanigans
and cattle herding gameplay is... good?

I got Red Dead a couple days ago to play online with my friends, and so far it's pretty.. meh. The GTA4 feel is strong in that one. The characters and story are pretty good, though not great by any stretch like ME2 was. The online is pretty basic, and the lack of storyline to do in multiplayer with my buddies is a huge minus, it was basically billed to me as a another Borderlands in the Wild West (though I suppose I should blame the guy who said that)..

So for me, as more of a storyline/character enthusiast, I'm going with Mass Effect.

I really hope Brink competes for GOTY. Even though so much can go wrong, and it might end up like Haze.

RDR definitely has the the power to keep me entertained for incredibly prolonger periods at a time, and the amount of things to do in it is fantastic. However, at no point did it give the adrenaline rush, the feeling of awe, or the excitement that the ME story has so far. I'm so fucking pumped for ME3, and that's gotta say something brilliant about it predecessor.

Plus, in comparing the two to the last winner (Batman), ME2 seems much similar in 'flawlessly fulfilling what it set out to'.

That is all entirely my opinion though...

RDR is keeping me occupied with all sorts. For hours on end. Mass Effect 2 only had the Main Quests and Side Quests to keep me going (don't get me wrong I LOVE ME2). RDR is bloody masterful. It gets my vote. (And no, it's not just "Cowboy GTA")
