Close, very close but I haven't completed RDR yet. I think Mass Effect 2 would win it for me though at the moment... but close though.

I have a feeling it'll be Super Mario Galaxy 2. As muchas I hate to admit it. I love RDR and ME2, but they're gonna have trouble competing with a game that is getting almost unanimous 10's across the board. It will be a close race though, I kinda want ME2 to win the most.

for me the other 2 titles coming out this year are halo reach and fallout new Vegas so the game of the year will probably be one of those four games. halo reach, fallout new Vegas, red dead redemption or mass effect2

Personally with Nintendo being such a big player this year, I'm gonna guess it will be the new zelda, or galaxy 2. However in my opinion i would like to see StarCraft 2 win, but out of those 2, probably mass effect 2 has a better chance.

I've deliberated over this myself for the last few days. Both games are excellently presented, well acted, immersive, engrossing and head and shoulders above any other game that's come out this year.

However, only one of them allows me to truely shape my interactions with those around me and for that Mass Effect 2 just nudges in front.

That said both are significantly different enough to enjoy pride of place next to each other at the top of the heap. Bless.
I'm going to be torn with this for a while longer I think. At the moment I have ME2 in front as well but we'll see how that goes when I finally finish RDR.

And I agree they are both different and both great and deserved to be both recognised as excellent games.

It's May.

Let's wait until the end of the year to start guessing at game of the year, shall we?

This is seriously not a decision I want to have to make. I feel bad for The Escapist's staff come December.

I really didn't have fun in Mass Effect . . . at all. That's the thing about Bioware games for me, they have nice stories and stuff, but I never have fun in them.

Hopefully Fallout NV is great, but until then I'll go with RDR.

Between the two, Red Dead Redemption

I was a bit disappointed with ME2's plot. And though RDR isn't without its flaws, its single player is the best I've played in a while.

I'm really enjoying Red Dead Redemption, but Mass Effect 2 was one of the greatest games I have ever played. So... I'll have to go with it.

I'd give it to Red Dead. I haven't even beat the game yet but I'm definitely having a lot more enjoyment out of the game than I did with ME2.

I don't even think it's between Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2. Right now it's Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Mass Effect 2, to which I would say Mass Effect 2. However, I haven't finished Galaxy 2 yet.

I've only played Red Dead so Im kinda biased/one sided. But I intend to play both ME(and ME 2) since my friends who I trust when they judge games have only said good things about both games

I'd have to say... Red Dead Redemption. But ME2 is still a great game, RDR is just better. Although we shouldn't decide so early, there's still a lot of games to come out. Let's hope COD: BO doesn't get GOTY...

I think RDR is awesome, appeals to a wider audience (my wife and her sister mostly play it as "Grand Theft Horsie"), and is MUCH easier to get in to and understand than the Mass Effect series. I bought the 1st ME and, after working hard to really give it a try and like it, I just ended up frustrated by having to restart areas because my squadmates died, getting lost (because I didn't know where I was supposed to go or how to get there), and getting lost (again) in all the menus. My choice is Red Dead Redemption...aka "Grand Theft Horsie"

I did enjoy Mass Effect 2 a lot, but I couldn't get over the feeling that it was trying too hard to be mature. That, and the whole thing felt very confined, especially compared to the first game. When I first got to Omega, I was stunned at how beautiful and alive it seemed... that is, until I realized that it only takes about ten minutes to explore the entire place.

Red Dead Redemption doesn't suffer from either of these problems. The story is interesting, well written, and actually relevant. The world is huge, teeming with life of both the human and animal variety, and full of random events and happenings. Not to mention, I find the gun-play immensely more satisfying, thanks largely to the Euphoria physics.

Admittedly, I'm a little biased, because, well, one is a western and the other is... not.

Is it already the end of year already? Nope, it's only May. Let's not start declaring winners prematurely here. The field is less then half populated.
