Wow such a great game. I haven't even scratched the surface yet. I loved Mass Effect 2 and I still think it's the best game so far this year but RDR is so much damn fun. It could work out better than ME2.

I spend hours and hours last night just hunting animals and treasure hunting and didn't get bored once. If you can spend a lot of time doing little jobs like this and find yourself just riding around on your horse just for the fun of it for ages then that's a sign of a great game to me.

This is the kind of thing that makes me cry that I don't have enough cashola to buy RDR until friday.

But after that, I shall respond with my opinion of which deserves GOTY. I *LOVED* Mass Effect 2, but I have yet to see anything about RDR that doesn't get me pickled tink.

I love both Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2, but I think it's too early in the year to decide which game will be the game of the year. There are so many other high profile titles coming out later that it could turn out that neither are game of the year. However, if it came down to a direct contest, I think Mass Effect 2 wins.

But how awesome is it that we've ALREADY got two games that are strong candidates for GOTY?

It is a great game, but my opinon still stands for Mass Effect 2. Rockstar and Bioware have always done a great job with doing stories and each have mastered their own genre.

Bioware with their RPGs and Rockstar with the Open-world. Each have great characters. Each have a working combat system for the most part. And each have become giants in the industry. It's really a tough choice, but RDR gets a little old after a few hours while I can go on playing Mass Effect 2 for a whole day before getting bored.

Hence my choice for Mass Effect 2. But RDR is definitly a Game of the year contender.

Well, seeing as Mass Effect 2 is pretty much just a mediocre shooter with admittedly some of the best characters ever, and RDR is about the west it's pretty much an even match.

I am bioware fan at heart, but RDR and its cattle herding shenanigans deserve the GOTY award.

Well i still reckon it`s a bit early to say for sure but RDR is my nominee so far it starts slow but now it dominates my gaming time

I love both of these two but I would lean more towards Red Dead Redemption because it made all aspects and tasks fun to do and contributed to the feel of the Wild West, where as mass effect 2 had that mundane "mining" minigame and those side missions on remote planets that felt more like they were randomly spawned rather than part of the mass effect world.

Yeah that's what I'm sort of getting at. How lucky are we that there are two games that are so damn awesome and it's not even June yet. I'm so torn between these two games as I love Bioware and ME2 but RDR is so damn fun. lol

Too hard to call at this stage, but I doubt by the end that RDR will have given me the same amount of adrenalin fuelled epic punch the air with joy moments that ME2 did.

I would say RDR had a shot in my book, but honestly one thing screwed its chances for me. The end of the game killed it for me. It's a blast, but gun to my head I'm choosing Mass Effect 2 in a heartbeat.

I have not played RDR yet but I really want to. I really really liked ME2, but I will not choose until I have played RDR. The only problem I see ME2 will have in winning GOTY is that it came out at the Start of 2010 and many times games that came out early in the year have a tendency of being over looked by the new games of the holiday season.

well, if you look at it scientificly, mass effect 2 had a good story but mediocre combat with a bad open world. RDR has a good story with better combat and a better open world.

logicly RDR wins.

I seriously prefer MW2 to RDR.

RDR constantly winds me up like after finishing a mission leaving me alone in the middle of the country, boring dialogue that stretches out missions, traveling anywhere takes ages unless you use the stagecoach, even the fast travel has these annoying little animations that just slow it down and you have to be in just the right place to set up camp to use the fast travel (no gang hide outs, towns, on flat land, away from water and roads), not to mention the countless bugs/glitches.

I am trading it in on Friday after doing only a handful of missions in Mexico.

I have only played about half of ME2 but massively enjoy it, I would have finished ages ago but my PC isn't in a good position right now.

I've yet to play either but I would say Red Dead Redemption just by looking at the two and I nearly always prefer sci-fi over Westerns. But we'll have to wait for the end of the year to see for sure, right?
