I don't really like skinny guys, or at least guys who are skinnier than I am. And when they wear clothes to maximise their skinniness, that kind of repulses me. But a lot of teenage girls seem to like their boyfriends wearing tight jeans, so to each their own I guess.

Do most men think Kate Moss is sexable?

I don't, and I certainly don't find skinny guys that attractive, especially when they start to look starved. Slimness is fine, skinnyness, not so much, although it does suit some guys more. It's mostly about proportion, but a a decent amount of meat on you in the form of muscle doesn't hurt, and serves to make you more attractive. Go work out a bit. Shouldn't take you long to build up a few lines on your torso if you're below 25. You don't need a 6-pack, just something.

But I'm sure you'll be able to find a sizeable minority who think skinny is good looking on guys, as with most body shapes.

I'm 5'10", 53kg. I should be skinny as hell, but I've been bulking up recently and I think I look a lot better in the mirror now. That could by psychological though.

Remember that, if you are a teenager, your metabolism is crazy high, and your body probably disproportioned, so you'll probably be underweight anyway according to the BMI.

But yeah, the key difference is between: Slim, and skinny, I think.

I wouldn't really say being very skinny is a particularly attractive quality to most women, but it is not very unattractive either. Most women prefer a guy that is muscular or has that kind of body type. Though I would guarantee you girls prefer skinny guys over fat guys.

Yeah, I remember that study from 60 Minutes or some such show. It certainly rings true from my personal experiences from school. It was social taboo to make fun of someone for being fat (no matter how mean or irritating that person was being), but it was okay to comment on others being really small or thin. It was so sensitive, it was almost similar to racial tension. "I have FRIENDS who are fat, sir!!!!" On that note, everyone knows or is related someone who is overweight. It's only a matter of time before it goes from being the norm, to the preferred. I'm not going on a "the sky is falling" news reporter rant, it's just an objective observation.
Mm, it's not fair to make fun of anyone based on a physical characteristic or trait they're born with. I'm sorry to hear you were made fun of. Maybe it's because I'm on the x chromosome here, but the number one insult girls use to describe other girls is the f word (that being fat). It's thrown around without being thought about, and it really messes with someone's self-esteem. However you're right that it's also common to accuse others of being too thin or having an eating disorder (also a popular retort for the women-folk). Maybe it speaks to my age that I'm accustomed to people assuming skinny=good and fat=bad, but now it is the norm for people to be overweight -- two out of three Americans are overweight or obese. Will that mean the world will soon be a cackling group of overweight people making fun of the lonely skinny person? Maybe, but I think it'll take a major cultural shift in the way we portray people in film, television and ads before that happens.

I wouldn't say that skinny is attractive, but I would say that fat is a turn off. Well, at least on women.

On men... well, I don't know much about the opinions of women, but mine is that if your ribs are visible, skinniness is unattractive. More than that, but still not buff is tolerable, just don't take your shirt off when unnecessary.

Well skinny always means not only not a lot of fat but also not a lot of muscle, right? And it should be no surprise that a lot of women prefer their men strong, someone to protect them, not a wuss.

Besides, it's always bad news if your girl weighs more than you, it makes things complicated. I guess if you can find a girl who's even skinnier than you it'd be alright, but who'd want that?

I have quite a lot of male friends who're skinny, and I've always kind of pitied them. And I can confirm your suspicions: they don't score, either.

It depends on the rest of the figure, very tall and very thin isn't a good look in my opinion but generally I'd prefer slightly skinny.

If skinniness means the absence of fat, but, er...umm... Explain please so my brain doesn't seize up again. It's really a chore to get jumper cables in there.

Weight doesn't matter. That, and the first page of this thread is kinda offensive.

I don't really like skinny guys, because as a rule, I've found them to be indy dickheads here.
That, and a guy skinnier than me makes me wanna throw up.

Can't speak for finding the gents attractive in the first place so I won't answer the poll, but I will say that as far as I'm concerned skinny girls are definitely not attractive. Thin and fit is fine, though it's not really my cup of tea as I prefer more ladies with a more curvy figure, but just plain skinny does nothing for me. Visible ribs are not a good thing.

I like a balance. I'm not into the skeletor skinny girls while I'm not into the beach whale size fat. I like that nice balance between. Little bit of a plump to her... That being said I'm not all that picky. If I love the girl then I don't care of the size but if it was narrowing it down to personal preference...

Very generally, being skinny is not often considered an attractive trait for a male. Having a fairly low body fat in conjunction with reasonable muscle tone is more often going to be considered attractive.

By the same token, a female who is too skinny is no longer attractive to my personal tastes. I expect a certain amount of fat on the female figure. If I can see the bone structure of your hips, chances are good you're too skinny for my tastes. I tend to favor the 20 - 30% body fat range in terms of looks but this can vary immeasurably depending upon other factors about the person.

Really skinny and really fat are both not attractive. Both convey the image of person who can't take care of themselves. It's not about being really thin or really muscular, it's about looking healthy and fit, so that lands somewhere in the middle.

...and I thought I was gonna get through the year without a grammar related accident. Pardon the grammar faux pas,I've never actually looked up the explicit definition of the word "skinniness." I didn't know it was a negative (i.e. the lack of, ___-less) word.

huh.

Well, I've learned something today.

Sorry... Didn't mean to be a grammar stickler, I was just trying to understand. *hangs head in shame*
