Huh. Color me surprised with the gender role for this quiz.

Of course I agree that physical appearance should be the last thing people think of when selecting a mate. However, I would like to point out that while many women are attracted to skinny men, this sometimes makes a girl more self-conscious of her own body issues, most notably the presence of a little extra jiggle where her partner may have none.
I always sort of thought that! I remember a couple I knew from high school (they did drugs). The male lost a ton of weight from doing meth, but the girl only lost about half that amount. He told me she was really self conscious about it. On the other hand due to biology and child birth, you're probably more likely to see large women with skinny guys, than the other way around. In those cases, the "pursuit" aspect has ended, though.
That's very true. A woman's weight will fluctuate over time much more than a man's, although I've heard of an interesting study about the social aspect of obesity. (It's a study you might've read about from Wired [http://www.wired.com/medtech/health/magazine/17-10/ff_christakis], if you're curious.) I've had several female friends date skinny guys and confess that same self-consciousness as your former high school friend, and then again I've known some plus-sized divas who rock their bodies with pride and don't know an ounce of self-doubt.

Thanks for responding and noticing my post by the way. It's really spiffy of you. *blush blush*

Yes. Yes. A million times yes.

It shows that a person has restraint and also cares about the way that they look. It may seem shallow to some people but those are two important qualities. Although to be fair, I don't find skinniness nearly as attractive as I find people who are fit.
So someone who is fat just doesn't give a shit?

I'm fat and I also made this thread:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.225028-Grooming#7637169

Just for your consideration. Restraint? I don't know if your talking about eating, but if you are, just think about that for two seconds. I eat the same amount as my friends whom are all skinny (Not anorexic, mind you) and I remain very fat. Sometimes you can't listen to stereotypes. I sense a lot of bigotry coming from your aura.

My cousin is skinny, and hates it. Somebody else is anorexic and loves it.

I'm tall and muscly and would give anything to be average height and slim/skinny.

Some of my friends are quite chunky and are really happy with the way they look.

As other people have said, it comes down to personal preference.

PS: If anybody's wondering why I don't do something about my weight, I like being strong (because I'm competitive), but not muscly (because I don't like how it looks). I know V_V. Besides, I couldn't force myself to diet even if I lost the muscle, I'm trying to eat better now so my 6-pack shows and it ain't working. You can kick me in the stomach and I won't flinch, but you can't see it from a layer of skin ;_;.

I agree completely, I'm a guy, 6'1" and 150 lb, and finding pants that are both thin enough and long enough can be a problem at times. As for the main discussion, I happen to be that guy who can stuff his face every day and not gain any significant weight. My weight will probably change as my metabolism changes, but for now I'm not bothered much by it.

I was kind of fat for a while but recently I've been losing a lot of wiehgt and right now it's nearly a stone I've lost (14lbs), but I still wouldn't call myself skinny but neither am I fat anymore, still no more luck with girls though. I agree about confidence though, I have a friend who plays rugby and he is big, granted a lot of it is muscle but he is still pretty fat, and he gets on great with girls just becuase he's so confident and blunt about what he says.

Skinny guys are definitely my type!! I'm not into muscles or fat at all. Most guys seem to think that muscles appeal to women but the fact is, most of the girls I know fucking hate them haha

I don't know, sometimes it just looks like guys try too hard. Plus massive biceps are just repulsive, as are six packs D=

Being a skinny guy, this would be interesting to find out. Obviously some people find skinny people attractive, or at least are not turned off by it as I know from experiance, but it would be interesting to see what people think in the larger scheme of things.

Oh wow, yeah this.

Personally I think skinny guys are way more attractive than a typical muscle-y hunk. Not sure what girls think of my skinny-ness. I can't see it being such a bad thing, but I guess it all depends on preference.

I agree. I didn't start this thing to make personal assumptions about overweight people. As much as I like being skinny, I can't kid myself about it being a "choice" or a result of "restraint." Luck or happenstance are more appropriate descriptors. Fat people have to physically work a lot harder at just about everything. Except getting pussy, if the results of my poll are to be believed.

I declare thee winner of thread. My BMI is around 18 to 18.5, according to Wii Fit (which I use about three times a week: me = nerd). However, my original point wasn't necessarily about everything that could make a person attractive, just about physical appearance. Shallow, yes, but I was simply curious. I already figured most people would opt for the boring "muscle man" or "middle of the road" choices, so I left them off the poll.
You don't know how honored I am by this. Through that rambling, I hope I actually did answer your question on some level, even if I did miss the original point a bit.

EDIT: Don't trust Wii Fit, find a calculator online, they are much more accurate

Keep in mind these numbers are from the mostly open minded community of the Escapist.

If we are talking skinny in terms of my future brother-in-law then no, I don't find it attractive. Mind you he's tall and lanky as well, generally not healthy looking at all in appearance with a speedy metabolism (the bastard). I don't like over the top bulky either, or even borderline over the top bulky. Anywhere in the middle is a happy medium for me to find attractive.

Funny, I think the same thing about being fat.
It's individual, and if I had to theorize, is probably based more on what each person considers to be "healthy", unless their love truly is blind, etc.
Ah, it's comforting to know other guys share my pain with regards to clothes :p

I'm like 6' 2" and thin, so if I buy size large clothes to get the length then they're too baggy, and more often than not size medium clothes are the right width, but too short. Oh Woe is me!

I'm OK with leans though. I just always buy Levi's 32" waist, long leg. They may be a bit expensive but they fit like a dream :D

Well that was horrendously off topic...

Yeah, I remember that study from 60 Minutes or some such show. It certainly rings true from my personal experiences from school. It was social taboo to make fun of someone for being fat (no matter how mean or irritating that person was being), but it was okay to comment on others being really small or thin. It was so sensitive, it was almost similar to racial tension. "I have FRIENDS who are fat, sir!!!!" On that note, everyone knows or is related someone who is overweight. It's only a matter of time before it goes from being the norm, to the preferred. I'm not going on a "the sky is falling" news reporter rant, it's just an objective observation.

I once had a bit of a thing with a very, very skinny guy. I hated it, I felt like I was going to break him in half he looked and felt so fragile. And bony too! Not great for cuddling. He also wore women's jeans, which was a bit of a turn-off. His narcissistic attitude was what really finished it though. I also do not like big over-muscled guys. The macho attitude that goes along with it is horrible.
My boyfriend is slim, quite strong but not ridiculously muscled and cuddly enough so I can snuggle in if he picks me up. He thinks he's on the fat side now but I think he's perfect.

To be honest, my main point here is that it doesn't really matter much as your personality and your attitude, and you find girls that prefer every body type. That skinny guy has got a devoted girlfriend at the moment, and I know guys built like tanks who have found love. There's someone for everyone.
