R sorry if somebody already said this but......
Using a HDMI cable produces the best answer to this, if you have an intelligent television. At the moment, as your TV will happily tell you, when you go from your dashboard or XMB (respectively) into a game, most of the time you change from 1080i or 1080p to 720p. this is an inferior resolution, by definition. When the SOFTWARE changes, the hardware will be worth the purchase, as, correct me if I'm wrong, the XBOX can't quite hit 1080p? i think it's capped at 1080i. P>I. But yeah...right now...games are more important. If you played all the other MGS games, it's really worth picking up a PS3 just for MGS4, also, killzone is a good one that you'll miss on the xbox and many of the other great games that aren't exclusive will be available (bioshock, fallout 3, street fighter 4, pro evo/fifa, the orange box, etc etc). If you think you're going to be more of a gears/halo fan, then pick up the xbox. Enjyoing both is the ideal way forward, that I and I'm sure many other escapists choose to do, but if it comes down to one or the other, it's PS3 on current titles, free PSN and future potential, and XBOX on (probably superior) current titles, and more english-speakers online. Oh, and the XBOX has some exclusive DLC that's definately worth a look.
Hope that helps.
