Personally I think Valve have dropped the ball... They were good, but now they've become more like EA, Activision and Ubisoft with the set cash cows of L4D and TF as yearly releases to bring in money to fund their attempt at controlling digital distribution on PC's.

If Valve announced L4D3 this week, the shit will really hit the fan. The entire E3 exibit would just implode from the fury of angry fans, creating a black hole not even the LHC can match. They are fine now, but if we are at the same stage this time next year, I will become impatient.

..........What exactly is wrong with the L4D series?
The fact that they've made a sequel in the gap of a year and that they haven't done anything else.
I looooooooooooooooooooooove L4D so swdihfe to you!
L4D is their best series in my opinion. I wasn't mad at all at the early release of L4D2, so I'm in the same boat as you.
I would rather have them expand L4D than releasing L4D2, what L4D2 brought to the franchise could have been adden as DLC.

Despite this, Valve is responsible for Half-Life, Portal and L4D so i know that HL3 will be an achievement when it releases.

I wish more developers were like Valve, even with the delays and "sequels".

l4d2 was them actualy trying for the fan boys. they didnt want to interupt the people who loved it by addding something as game changing as mellee wepons so they left it. i like lfd2 didnt like lfd1. and im starting to wonder if the reason they dont bring out games more often is becouse every one moans at them when they do... they have to many fan boys now so they get moaned at for practicly everything, however they do try and wind people up with things but there probibly all secret internet trolls.
im not much of a half life fan i didnt play the first and found the secound vy average and overhyped but thats probibly just me and id just finished portal and nothing could stack up 2 it. tf2 i like and if they release a sequal people will still play it so thats kl with me. portal was the best game i have played EVER so they can die for delaying the sequal :p nut its got to be a disapointment im guessing becouse what can they do that map editors havnt allready... thats my view any way

Considering they still have not made a game that I didn't like and I don't feel that I'm entitled to much of anything beyond what is implied as a consumer, no I don't think they're losing their touch. It's not like they have ever been known for getting products out the door quickly or anything.

Yeah. If you suck. :p
It's better than ever, provided you can hit someone who can very slowly crawl away.
Uber stunning was always b.s.
In fact, the one thing valve have done right with is make the scout's unlocks far better than when they started.
The old FaN, oh god that was horrible...

OT: I always hated people ragging on valve for left 4 dead 2. People seemed to have this huge sense of entitlement (probably from team fortress in fact), and wanted left 4 dead to be constantly updated, when new campaigns were really the only kind of additions that'd make sense anyway.
I don't even have Left 4 dead 2, as I found the first boring after a while, but that whiny self entitlement annoys me no end. Why people think they deserve Valve updating their game for nothing?
I agree the old FAN was shit but The Sandman sucks now, its people who ***** and whine who ruin it for others, also the Uber bonk...whatever you wanna call it was not B.S, it was to make the game more balanced, now nothing can stop a uber charge

Airblast.
Body blocking with bonk.
Laying stickies between them and detonating.
Spamming rockets at their feet to knock them up.

The first one in particular completely negates an uber, almost too easily in fact.

Also how does the sandman suck now? You can stun them at closer range; the only difference is they don't stand still and can move at a really slow crawl. It's no more hard to kill them than it was before.

Without Half Life 2 episode 3 anywhere in sight
Can someone tell me why everyone gets so worked up over the Half Life series? IMO It's not even particularly good, I much preferred Portal, and TF2 is brilliant. Even L4D1 and 2, while they eventually get boring, give more satisfaction.
I would be happy if they released a small game tying up all the loose HL ends, and moved on to something like TF3, or made a new series.
well its you opinion if you like it or not however the fact that HL2E3 is not even a "new" instalment rather than a DLC or mod for HL2 that re-uses the HL2 engine over and over again. it has nearly been 3 years that any other development company could have released it within 1 year

there are comparisons to DN:forever and HL2E3, besides Half-life made valve and the game is really appealing to PC games who played HL back in the day and had fun, like me
I like to keep the optomisitc view that valve are trying to take their time.

plus http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101197-Rumor-Valves-E3-Surprise-is-Source-2-Maybe-Half-Life-3 if the rumour is true then they'll be making it in a new engine and that's gonna take even more effort.

besides unless valve becomes a complete mess and seems like they can't do anything right (which they can) then i doubt it'll be bad. besides taking 3 years when any other studio would take 1 shows they're putting more work into the project. besides apart from making the game itself (which takes most of the time) they've got to write the scripts make from scratch any new features, get the VA's in and record and then they have to tes it and remove bugs and test again t remove more bugs and keep testing until all the really bad bugs are gone. then they have to make it streamlined and code it for PC and mac now along with the console verisons and so on and so on ect ect.

tf2 was in development for years and damn it was a good game. (still is but the crafting system fustrates me because i'm so close to having a hat and yet so far.....)

Valve is only getting worse if you judge their performance solely on how they're progressing with the Half-Life series.

L4D games rocked.
Portal rocked.
TF2 rocked.
Valve is still awesome, they're just being awesome in different directions for a while.

I agree that uber-stunning was BS because the point is that nothing should be able to stop people from being mobile and capeable of doing something while uber'd. how ever i must say that the sandman sucks now because as well as it being hard to stun mving people anyway the stun is unuseable at close range where a mele weapon is most effective. plus the reduced stun time, 8 seconds was way to much but only 2 seconds? come on.

also air blast is harder to use when being shot at, plus uber'd people tend to be at the spearhead of an attack so the pyro will most likely be killed by their teamates unless he can sucessfully ambush them in which case that's a matter of skill or sheer dumb luck and should be rewarded. besides the pyro's had a seires of nerfs, i think some kind of ability to do something would be apprecitated

Well, their games are still brilliant, but there's a few things in which valve seem determined to piss everyone off.

L4D DLC given no TLC

Just getting this out of the way, I like the L4D series, and I think L4D2 just had enough improvements to warrant it's release so close to the first game at full price. Debatable, and I know many people who like L4D more, which is fine, even good, it'll keep the first game's community alive. BUT! the problem comes in with DLC. When they announced L4D2, they promised to keep DLC going for both games, thus keeping both communities alive with new content. But they have so far been rather lacklustre in this, with the passing for L4D2 coming out months after it was supposed to, and god knows how long it's L4D counterpart, "the crossing" will take to get out. Sure, mutation serves as a nice way of keeping people coming back to L4D2 without constantly releasing DLC, but if they plan on producing new DLC as a way of boosting players, they better start being more consistent about it and stop taking nigh on a year to produce only a three-part campaign.

"Everything's on track...to release in another two year's time."

Valve seem to have a few chronic procrastinators on the team, as valve have a terrible history of delays. The passing was a textbook case of valve time. Before L4D2's launch, they said they'd have it out within the first few months of release. They didn't. When it had a release date, they left it up until that date to announce they'd be taking another couple of months to...Well, god knows what. And let's not even get started with HL2 ep 3...

"Portal-themed announcement"

You may have heard that after speculation of what valve's big E3 announcement would be, they announced it wouldn't be portal 2, but something portal-themed. I swear, if they have a "portal" set up, and the L4D3 characters walk out of it, there's gonna be trouble...

Valve dates PCs

valve have an almost unfair preference towards PC players. Whilst PC TF2 has been updated constantly, console versions have recieved nothing, which I can almost understand, technical limits, blah blah, but the servers for the 360 version have been allowed to fall into disrepair. Laggy games are all too common. Modded games allowed to spam up matchmaking. What's more, there's gaping exploits a plenty. All too often, a game has been ruined by engineers UNDER the map. Seriously valve, if you could kindly take time off from making out with the PC crowd, how's about fixing some of the exploits at least, hey? Maybe just chucking us even a slightly improved connection?
hell if you like try contacting them. i wouldn't use that exact wording but surely all the people so mad at the state of the console game (and if what you said is true then they really need to get their act together in that department) should at least tell them and raise the issue.

HL2:EP3 is almost becoming like starcraft 2 minus the korean fanbase plus a much bigger fanbase everywhere else. i have a feeling that if it isn't mind bogglingly epic (which it should be after this kind of wait) then heads will probably be split and maybe even WW3 will break out with the kindof expectations Valve has going for it. Either that or the massive fanbase will just absorb it and call it "epic" for the sake of it being valve.

I personably am looking forward to HL2:EP3 since the others were good and the storyline was great and needs to be finished off. Portal 2 is an odd one since after Portal there isn't much more that I can see happening storywise, but it will be interesting to see. The L4D series so far are among some of my favorite games but, again, what else can they add ontop of the new stuff in L4D2 other than making the game harder (again) and more challenging?

So... basically you want everything to be done now and perfectly?

Tough biscuits for you, I guess. The level of quality they output takes a long time. Deal with that as a reality or go support a shovelware developer, because there can't be much of a middle ground here.

I eagerly anticipate whatever VALVe comes out with next. Though I hope HL2:3 comes soon, I don't mind waiting for it if it means the game of a lifetime needs some fine-tuning.

us console players would absolutely love some new updates for Team Fortess 2.
There's a reason none of the class updates have made it to consoles. See, Microsoft want to charge money for all updates like they were DLC. Valve thought they should be free, so MS skipped the updates.
