In my opinion they can't get any worse.
Do you have any evidence for that, or is that an opinion based on personal dislike?
I'm sorry to be intruding here, but please notice the bolded parts.
That actually made me chuckle. Hilarious!

OT:
I haven't really cared much for Valve at any point in time. Half Life(the original) was awesome though, and spawned third-party mod Counter-Strike which was, and is, just about the perfect multiplayer FPS.

Getting worse? Given that I couldn't care less for L4D, find HL2 quite boring, and will not attribute Portal to them(they published but didn't design it) I'd say yes.

I don't really care that much for Half life 2, yet I can't wait for Portal 2. I'm trying to grind my way through Half life 2 in case the next installment will be announced at E3 though, but it's looking pretty bleak.

Technically it wasnt valve, but tf1 was great. Half life 1 was amazing, counter strike was god DAMN amazing, counter strike source has to be their best game, Half life 2... pales in comparison to everything valve has done previously, huge let down. portal was pretty fun and original, left 4 dead is a fun counter strike based game, tf2 is pretty fun. now it seems they are going to milk these series? L4D2 is a good upgrade from L4D, its a better game, but is it worth the 1 year of lost development time? L4D1 updates probably could have been just as well received. If valve doesnt get back to the 90's/early 2000's quality then their popularity will die down.

I love how it takes longer to make an episode of one game on an old engine than it does to make a bunch of new games on a newer one.

Hell, the cast has started dying before Half Life 2 Ep:3 or Half Life 3 Ep:3 or whatever they want to call it has even been given a release date.

I also hate the monopolistic Steam Service, but that's money for them, so at least they're good at what they do.

Still it is condescending to say that then support the mac.
I get it now. So, you're just pissed that they chose Mac over your console. Get over it.

As I said before, obviously the PS3 had something that you wanted so you chose to get it instead of a 360 or a new PC. Well, now you have to deal with not playing PC, Mac, and 360 exclusives.

That is the choice that the majority of us have to make during every new console generation. Deal with it.

Besides the fact that L4D2 is a boring rehash? Consider the following: all they added was new campaigns (all of which are shitty), new characters (all of which are boring), and new guns and zombies (which are actually really cool). Sure, they updated the engine, but they could have waited at least 2 years for the initial boredom of L4D1 to wear off. It also cost $50 >:|

Left 4 Dead is fine, Left 4 Dead 2 is not (But I still played the shit outta either game).

Jesus I was just voicing my opinions that it is stupid to ignore an entire market, sorry if I came off as fanboyish.

Gabe Fucking Newell. Enough said.
Not really, why's Gabe such a bad guy?
His Resistance and reasoning in boycotting the PS3 has been nothing but fanboyish.

The fact that they've made a sequel in the gap of a year and that they haven't done anything else.
Yet you want HL2:3 now? Give them a chance one way or the other.
Forget HL EP3.
Counterstrike 2?
Day of defeat 2?
Team fortress 3?
Team Fortress 3 would be the stupidest move ever, considering they are still updating Team Fortress 2 on a weekly basis and havent even finished with everyone's unlockeables.

Counterstrike 2 would be logical, but it would be hard to compete with juggarnaut that is Modern Warfare 2. And as for Day of Defeat 2? If that game was announced at E3 I would laugh and never give it a second thought. Im tired of World War 2 games.

Without Half Life 2 episode 3 anywhere in sight, and the future release of L4D3 and 4 , and portal 2, is Valve losing there touch?I understand you need to make more money for later projects, but this just seems unimagitive.I can name at least 3,000 people on the internet that would give there right arm for HL2E3,(okay, maybe I can't name 3,000 people)and the fact us console players would absolutely love some new updates for Team Fortess 2.There's just alot of things that seem unfinished for them to move on like this.
Although what you're saying is absolutely true and Valve is losing their touch, this forum is filled with Valve Fanboys who will tear you limb from limb if you so much as acknowledge the fact that L4D2 kinda sucked.

Just saying that they have other titles that could do with a sequel.

I do feel that Valve is spreading themselves quite thin recently. It just feels as if they need to reassess their priorities.

If you play Valve games on a console you deserve to be treated like shit.
Hey that is bull shit man. Before i had access to a competent gaming pc or a 360 i had to play Hl2 on the xbox and while the effort was admirable it wasnt meant to be yet i played through the whole thing and when i did get a chance to play it in all of its PC glory it was still like playing it for the first time

So people who play it on the console do not deserve to be treated like shit if anything they should be commended it also helped me realize the PC is the most satisfying way to game.
Just report and move on. He just said people should be treated like shit for their gaming system of choice. If that's not textbook fanboyism I don't know what is.
Yeah you called it textbook fascism er i mean fanboyism but yeah i agree with you about valve they're already pretty small.Which is why i believe their e3 surprise will be a new game engine running Half life 3 that combines elements of L4D and portal with hordes of crab head zombies the return of the mighty gravity gun and,new to the Freeman's arsenal is the portal gun. With a new version of CS.

*closes eyes and imagines what seems to be heaven.

I'd say that the TF2 team are losing their way a bit. Of course the game is still fun, but a lot of the more recent updates have been pretty bad, especially since the introduction of random drops. The drops, and specifically hats, have changed the way people play the game. Before, the hook that kept people coming back was that it was an incredibly fun game, but now it's because they want hats. However, they can't really remove it now because that's what the game has become, and it would be pretty annoying having that gone now that we're all used to it. I do think they're putting too much effort into "fixing" things that aren't broken, like this new awful main menu, and a lot of their decisions regarding special items for some people and not others keep creating more and more division within the community. For example, these new iPod earbuds for Mac users are stupid. We all saw how bad it was when the Halo was given to some people and not others, and the amount of rage from both sides that it provoked, and now they create a new item that anyone can see will cause animosity between the two sides of an already raging argument between Mac and PC.

All in all, they're still good, but I think they need to pull emphasis away from hats and community weapons which barely fit into the game, if at all.
Atleast I'm not the only one that feels this way, I personally gave up on TF2 after they added the random drop weapons. The whole point of those weapons was to reward you for getting achievements. Well that started people farming achievements, which I've never done. Then they started with that hats and its all downhill from there.

I spent over 100 hours playing that game before it came a RPG.

But OT, I still think VALVe is going strong, the quick release of L4D 2 kinda made me a little upset but its still a very solid game.

firstly, where did you hear ANYTHING about l4d3 and 4 being right over the horizon?
secondly, what exactly is wrong about portal 2? i would argue that it's almost as anticipated as ep3
thirdly, Valve has already explained why they cannot update the 360. they tried but due to Microsoft demanding that it be paid for and the memory limitations of the 360, it just isn't possible.

so what "unfinished" things are there exactly? valve is a smart company that loves their fans. they can and have handled multiple big projects at once so i'm not about to get angry at them for anything.
would you rather episode 3 just be rushed out to meet the demand? remember the seven year gap between half life and half life 2? or the "20 year" gap (according to Valve time :p) between TFC and TF2? it felt like forever but i don't think i'm alone when i say that dammit it was worth the wait.

EDIT: also i thought the title of this thread was a reference to the "overtime" bug ><

Valve released like six games in the last five years. How many did they release in the five years before that, three?

If you're gaming on a console, it's debatable over whether or not you can have a valid opinion about Valve, a primarily PC based developer. Yes, they released some of their games on consoles, but they were not particularly happy about it and have since stated that they do not like developing for consoles, hence the lack of updates for their games on the PS3 and 360.

Maybe "valid opinion" was too harsh, but I hope you get what I mean. Valve don't really do consoles. As for the L4D franchise: it's brilliant. More of a good thing is a good thing. Most people believe that by today's standards the Half-Life series is not particularly good (a view I will debate to the death because it's AWESOME), but one of the main reasons people want to see episode 3 / Half-Life 3 is to conclude the story we all got invested in 6 years ago (or 12 years if you are counting the original Half-Life 1).

Valve has always been a bit of a 'joke' developer in terms of development time, but the actual products they release and the continued support they pour out (at least for PC gamers) have always been of outstanding quality. So no, they have not lost it.

Can't have it both ways; you can't hate them for making a sequel too soon(!) and also hate them for not making a sequel soon enough. Listen to yourselves, you plebs.

I love Valve, they're the funniest corporation I've ever known.
